To be underwhelmed by the Spice Girls 'new projects'

A group of people, only one of whom has any real talent, with their 'girl power' managed by a man.

Most musical reunions are never much, apart perhaps from Take That, in any case. Geri Horner spoke favourably about Margaret Thatcher, whose policies pushed many women into poverty.

I wish they would just stop. Most people grow up and move on.

CheeseFiend36 · 03/02/2018 10:04

They weren’t as bad as some of you are making out. Listen to Viva Forever and Goodbye - they were beautiful songs.
I agree tht some of the others were questionable though.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/02/2018 10:05

Good for them.

Zampa · 03/02/2018 10:08

I love the Spice Girls and went to see their last reunion tour. I'll be at the next one too! And this is from a serious indie kid.

It's daft, silly, pop music but it's fun!

(And VB's fashion line is very highly rated).

Mercurial123 · 03/02/2018 10:08

Cheese As a music lover I will not be listening to Viva Forever and Goodbye.

falsepriest · 03/02/2018 10:10

I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want...

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 03/02/2018 10:10

The were crap the first time and the Girl Power nonsense was mocked then. They seem to have been elevated by nostalgia.

Trashboat · 03/02/2018 10:14

When Mel C sag, she had the ability to sound like she had sinus problems and throat issues simultaneously.

Nails down a blackboard.

Although I did love the spice girls and am taking my dd to see a tribute act at our local theatre 😂

Trashboat · 03/02/2018 10:15

*sang

MidnightAura · 03/02/2018 10:15

They haven't actually confirmed what they are doing though are they?
Geri I read is refusing to commit to a tour as is one of the other girls.

I loved the Spice girls back in the day but Im not sure if this would work now

Shoegurl1 · 03/02/2018 10:16

Yes, YABU.

redexpat · 03/02/2018 10:40

Mel B was in Rent on broadway. The day I went she was off! I had wanted to see how she fared so was a bit disappointed.

I just think good luck to them. Why shouldnt they continue to make money? It's not like they hold a gun to the heads of people to make them part with their cash.

user1471456357 · 03/02/2018 10:44

I really can’t see many people going to see them if they do tour; maybe I’m missing something though. My daughter who is 27 loved them back in the day; she would have to be taken kicking and screaming to see them I think Grin

Sparklingbrook · 04/02/2018 10:46

I think they might be overestimating the interest in all of this. The Spice Girls were very much of their time, I don't know anyone who would want to go.

ZaZathecat · 04/02/2018 10:53

hells bells, so did I. She was great as was the entire production. Always liked her voice, it has a lot of character. Baby When You're Gone with Bryan Adams first made me notice her.

Auldspinster · 04/02/2018 10:59

I always found Mel C's voice horribly shrill.

cantsleepclownwilleatme · 04/02/2018 11:19

They were huge in Australia. Quite often the old 90's acts sell out here.

I can't stand Mel B but I wouldn't mind seeing the others. I can't imagine VB's heart being in it though, she'd be above all that now.

Sparklingbrook · 04/02/2018 11:25

They were huge everywhere weren't they? Back in the day. But now?

Everyone knows they aren't very close friends any more, I am not sure they even like each other that much. Wasn't the whole point of the original Spice Girls was that they were all big mates?

TheNaze73 · 04/02/2018 11:27

I agree cantsleep about Victoria. She is in a totally different stratosphere to the rest of them.

Maybe, she’ll have a reunion with Dane Bowers & The Trusteppers

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 04/02/2018 11:28

I don't think they are touring. But if they did people I don't doubt that would go and see them if only for nostalgia. Plenty of bands do it.

Cornettoninja · 04/02/2018 11:33

Listen to Viva Forever and Goodbye - they were beautiful songs

They didn't actually write them though did they? Anyone could have performed them in reality. At least bands like take that, boyzone and all saints had a crack at creating something.

I remember teenage me being shocked they got anywhere at all after that god awful wannabe song. I didn't really appreciate the power of corporate marketing then though.

Good luck to them I suppose but much like take that there's something very depressing about watching childhood idols refusing to let their glory days be and desperately reliving it. TT have managed a few highs since returning but it's still got an air of desperation.

Sparklingbrook · 04/02/2018 11:37

Wannabe came out the year I was pregnant with DS1. I was a bit 'WTF is this'? Not sure how I would have felt as a teeny bopper.

I agree about the childhood idols thing. Some stuff is best left in the past. It does seem a bit desperate sometimes.

VladmirsPoutine · 04/02/2018 11:42

Some things are indeed better left in the past. None of them had any remote talent but a strong marketing team. That said, who can blame them. I later worked in marketing and I have written a dissertation about the SG. Grin

metalmum15 · 04/02/2018 11:46

Victoria is insisting she's not singing

Thank fuck for that.

cantsleepclownwilleatme · 04/02/2018 11:53

On another note, can Five please do a reunion? I'd like to request 'Got The Feelin'. Grin
