To ask about your pelvic floor?

Barnaclesbrother · 02/02/2018 20:15

A friend told me she has done pelvic floor exercises everyday of her adult life because someone told her age 15 it would improve her sex life!!! I was stunned! I missed this memo! I did them once or twice a week during first pregnancy, my pelvic floor was unsurprisingly a disaster afterwards, so I was a bit better for a month or two, but rarely do them since. Now I’m starting the second trimester with number two and I want to turn over a new leaf. So please telll me, do you do regular pelvic floor exercises, if so what do you actually do ... a few quick squeezes, long ones, how many, how often, any apps you’d recommend to help??

I only do them whenever someone mentions them!

FucksakeCuntingFuckingTwats · 02/02/2018 20:19

I do it so much now I actually do it subconciously and realise I'm doing it. I pull up fast and hold and release slowly gradually down the way. I pull up slower in three steps and hold then release or release back down in steps. Also do quick up and downs.

Do you not ever clench them whilst dtd?

Sierra259 · 02/02/2018 20:20

Squeezy is the NHS app. Yoy can set it to pysh notifications to remind you at set times during the day.

You need to both long squeezes (holds) and quicker on/off squeezes as they each work different kinds of muscles. The POGP website will have more info re: technique

Sierra259 · 02/02/2018 20:21

Apologies for the typos! Blush

Myddognearlyatethedeliveryman · 02/02/2018 20:22

Mine went that - a- way ¬ many moons ago I think.

faceremovinghairscream · 02/02/2018 20:27

Ha just the very sight of the thread title has had me clenching and unclenching.
Isn't there a poster called 'pelvicfloorreminder?!'

pimlicolife · 02/02/2018 20:27

I was also told the same by my friend's mum at 15 and have also done them daily since then.

I wonder if your friend is my friend too!

I'm very grateful to her mum Grin

Aftery DD was born I drank a jug of water and did stop start when I first had a pee.I am now 57and can still cope with a full bladder and a sneezing fit. Also came in handy on the tube when major delays(IRA bomb alerts)meant you were doing very long squeezes!

Welshlovebicuit · 02/02/2018 20:30

Yup...everyday and having had my cervix removed last year it's been a godsend - no prolapse, no leakage and once I was healed, pretty damned good sex :-)

noeffingidea · 02/02/2018 20:32

I haven't done them very often. My pelvic floor is still pretty strong though, after 3 vaginal births. I do lots of swimming and that has helped a lot. Pilates is supposed to be pretty good as well.

Lj8893 · 02/02/2018 20:34

I do mine every morning and night as I brush my teeth (it's a good routine and reminder!). When I was pregnant and after pregnancy I did them more often.

Proud owner of a very good pelvic floor Grin

Lethaldrizzle · 02/02/2018 20:37

All pretty good but trampolining is not my friend!

fannythrobbing · 02/02/2018 20:40

I had a diastasis with baby 1 that took a lot of physio to sort so I got quite good with doing my pelvic floors. This pregnancy I'm so busy at work I forget - it's getting to the point where I fart with any exertion and have little control over it (no other continence issues though - yet!)
The thing I've recently found really helpful is the NHS Squeezy app. It has reminders that you can set up which is useful as the last week or so I've scheduled them around my working day. The physio told me I'd been doing them all wrong for years too - she described it as a "wink" of the back passage and imagining zipping up your front passage. There should be no tension in your abs when doing them. That helped me massively!

Mrsjellybum · 02/02/2018 20:40

God I'm shockingly bad at doing them.

The problem is I find them hard work and I'm sure it's because mine are so bad.

I do 1 or 2 squeezes then think f*ck it and stop.

I've seen the pelvic floor devices you can buy and a mate told me they were really good and helped her to strengthen them up so she can now do them easily without it

FleagleBingoDrooperSnork · 02/02/2018 20:42

I don’t have a pelvic floor. More of a basement....

Barnaclesbrother · 02/02/2018 20:43

Just had a quick look at thePOGP website and advice leaflet....
It’s worse than I though.!!! .. I don’t have many urinary symptoms, but it turns out I have plenty of bowel and vaginal symptoms... I just didn’t realise what they were symptoms of. And it suggests 10 holds of 10 seconds 3x daily.... I can do 2 hold of 5 seconds, one of 3...... and that’s about it. Clearly need to improve! So best app I’d squeezy??

I'd be interested in a good device too.

Pfftkids · 02/02/2018 20:45

Every time I see 'pelvic floor exercises' I do them. Seems to be enough.....nothing fallen out so far 🤷🏼

Barnaclesbrother · 02/02/2018 20:47

To be honest I’ve never been able to hold wind even pre children.... I just thought that was normal, and that people who got uptight about farting in public were just that , uptight, because farting is normal!! Beginning to wonder if many people actually can hold it in a nd it’s me ( or my pelvic floor) that’s weird

Bolshybookworm · 02/02/2018 20:48

I did my mine and I have a pretty good pelvic floor according to my physio. Still didn’t stop me from getting a prolapse though Confused Ah well, such is life. I think it’s linked to my general hyper mobility. I do have good bladder control though Smile

Pfftkids · 02/02/2018 20:49

Do you walk about fanny farting?

Bringonspring · 02/02/2018 20:49

I find having a trigger a good plan. Eg currently with my second I do them every time I feed my baby. I like the PP of doing them when you clean your teeth!

falang · 02/02/2018 20:50

Mine is so bad I can hardly feel myself doing the squeezes. How do I put that right??

Barnaclesbrother · 02/02/2018 20:53

No fanny farting when walking... but I cannot to a downward dog without a lot of embarrassing noises... Blush

Barnaclesbrother · 02/02/2018 20:56

Hmmm I’m pretty hyper mobile around the hips so that prob doesn’t help.... have always been able to sit in lotus position or put feet behind neck with no issues
