To say never be tempted by Bubbleology

I didn't buy it. My DD came home and gave it to me.

It's messed with my head. It's a drink of giant frog sporn, but a thousand times worse when you sucked it up in your mouth.
It not even like it has a flavour.
I was having a truely lovely day until this ruined it.

Well we had months of DS and his friends hot-footing it to the top floor of Harvey Nics after school just to get Bubblology. He once bought me one and I thought it was blue. Now it's on the decline and "Shake Shack" is on the rise, I gather? Also the ice cream sliced like wafers and rolled.

g1itterati · 01/02/2018 20:18

Sorry vile, not blue (though you can get blue ones, I'm sure).

Callamia · 01/02/2018 20:24

G1itterati, I’m still miffed with Shake Shack for choosing to incinerate my burger just because I was pregnant. Really, the woman who took my order was a mother, so made a decision for me. 😬
Their crimped fries are also awful.
I would love one of their regular (medium) burgers right now though.

MummySparkle · 01/02/2018 20:25

YADNBU. I had one once. The texture was weird but the flavour was minging! We had to queue for ages, not sure why we bothered!

Schlimbesserung · 01/02/2018 20:29

What is it? Forgive my ignorance, I live on a rock in the North Atlantic and we don't even have Tesco, never mind weird bubble thingys.

theaveragewife · 01/02/2018 20:31

Shake Shack? Wow that’s v NY circa 2010

bruffin · 01/02/2018 20:31

I had shakeshack on saturday, the fries were realky nice. I also like bubble tea

Ragusa · 01/02/2018 20:32

Is this bubble tea? Popular in far east??

bruffin · 01/02/2018 20:33

Theaveragewife
Shakeshack charge more in £ in uk than they do in $ in New York.

bridgetreilly · 01/02/2018 20:34

It's tapioca. Enough said.

SuburbanRhonda · 01/02/2018 20:36

You think that texture is weird? Try konjac noodles. Very odd mouthfeel.

theaveragewife · 01/02/2018 20:38

I hadn’t noticed bruffin either way massively overpriced grease only good for mopping up a hangover Grin

mygorgeousmilo · 01/02/2018 20:41

Never been tempted by the weird bubbles, but what everyone should really try, is a bacon and salted caramel from milkshake from Five Guys. Yes.

Louiselouie0890 · 01/02/2018 20:45

Wat is it

confusedhelpme · 01/02/2018 20:52

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubble_tea

Chewy Tapioca Balls!

maras2 · 01/02/2018 20:54

Is that the same as bubble tea?
If so, It's very popular round here < student land >
I try to keep up < old gimmer > but have to admit that the one I tried was the second worse thing I've ever had in my mouth. Envy Not envy.

Mindhunter · 01/02/2018 20:57

I was given a free large one by a bored looking man behind the counter of a bubble tea place in our very quiet town after I asked what it was. The answer was vile even my children who like disgusting drinks wouldn't touch it. It was gone the next time I went there so I guess no one likes them.

CakeOfThePan · 01/02/2018 20:57

We had some the other weekend, the shops scared me to we got a mix in a Chinese supermarket. it was the sweetest thing I have ever tasted. Disgusting!
I wondered if the flavours in the shop would make it better?

Fintress · 01/02/2018 20:57

I had a cocktail recently with that frogspawn stuff in it. I quite liked it, maybe it was the alcohol Grin

g1itterati · 01/02/2018 21:01

The thing they loved in LA and I'm sure will be here very soon is the cupcake vending machine in the street. There's about 20 different cakes and I think you can customise them. They come out in mini boxes 24/7. Surprised it's taking so long for someone to do that here.

Smarmydrippings · 01/02/2018 21:01

It's hard to be more explicit tbh.
Yes to giant tapioca ( very not Envy )
I'm extremely shocked to hear people enjoy it. Much less seek it out.

I finished for the strange fascination of awful and wrong.

Ugh no its like tapioca in milk. The DC's came home gleefully clutching a durian fruit one and I've banned durian fruit from the house as a result.

QueenDramaLlama · 01/02/2018 21:05

Haha, love your description.

TheGingerSnapped · 01/02/2018 21:07

You all sound so culturally sheltered! Far East?! Do people actually say that out loud?

Bubble tea is amazing. Try taro milk tea next time you need a sugar hit. Definitely not any sweeter than a maple salted caramel popcorn Nutella milkshake. Confused

ObscuredbyFog · 01/02/2018 21:10

Sorry OP, but giant frog sporn is a brilliant description Grin
