To say never be tempted by Bubbleology

I didn't buy it. My DD came home and gave it to me.

It's messed with my head. It's a drink of giant frog sporn, but a thousand times worse when you sucked it up in your mouth.
It not even like it has a flavour.
I was having a truely lovely day until this ruined it.

Also bubble tea is grim imo.

Fekko · 01/02/2018 21:15

There was one near my old office and you’d see a trail of unfinished drinks along the road, so I never felt the need to try it.

At a school fair one of the children was pouring a ‘traditional’ drink from China or Korea (I forget which) so I politely had some. It looked like very gin yoghurt with passion fruit seeds floating in it. It didn’t taste very nice either. I have no ideas what it was but it was lumpy too.

RedRobin87 · 01/02/2018 21:25

I LOVE bubble tea! The one and only place that sold it here opened and went bust within a year - I think I might have been their only customer!

There isn't a single place that sells in within. 50 miles to me. I did consider buying a kit off amazon but it seems like a lot of faff to make it

Fintress · 01/02/2018 21:39

The DC's came home gleefully clutching a durian fruit one and I've banned durian fruit from the house as a result.

Don't blame you that stuff is rank smelling! I inadvertently bought a durian fruit ice lolly, horrible aftertaste. I didn't eat more than one bite.

Ragusa · 01/02/2018 21:40

@TheGingerSnapped, What's wrong with Far East as a descriptive term? It's just another way of referring to East Asia. It is far. it is East from here. Really am not culturally sheltered. Honestly. Have lived in 6 countries and speak 4 languages, parents speak different languages to each other, live in one of the world's most ethnically and linguistically diverse city.

I still hate fucking bubble tea though. It's vile.

UpstartCrow · 01/02/2018 21:42

Fintress We're still wondering how they import it. They sell whole ones in a local shop and I always have a furtive sniff as we walk past but thery're wrapped in plastic.

Trills · 01/02/2018 21:43

You clearly aren't a fan of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Ragusa · 01/02/2018 21:50

@TheGingerSnapped have you ever referred to the north of England as 'The North'; the american midwest as 'The Midwest'?; 'Central Europe' (central to whom?); 'Eastern Europe? (much of which isn't any more East of Paris/ London than Austria but interestingly Austria never gets called 'Eastern Europe'. And Greece is never referred to as E Europe even though it is further East than most of the countries that are referred to in this way.)

Anyway I digress.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 01/02/2018 21:51

There's two types isn't there? First one had proper bubbles of thin jelly with flavoured stuff in. Very nice, if toe curdlingly sweet.(and at the cinema my ds works at,he puts the bubbles into ice blasts, for an extra push on the slippery slope to type 2) The other had tapioca, which was discusting. (Sic) Anyway, round my dds way it's all them bubble waffle thingies.

TheGingerSnapped · 01/02/2018 22:08

@Ragusa Disclaimer: I'm from Australia and a little sensitive to colonial hangovers in language. Wink

We call the area you refer to as South East Asia. As I don't go to Europe often, I don't really call any of the areas you listed as anything but their place names...

Smarmydrippings · 01/02/2018 22:17

Well I never expected Politics 😕

Just looked at shakeshack Cardiff and London only, oh well.

c75kp0r · 01/02/2018 22:40

Salted caramel Nutella popcorn milkshake eh? how does that compare, with, let’s see, one of those smoothies with kale in it?

Yarboosucks · 01/02/2018 22:45

Oh I love it! And none of your silly flavour nonsense! Give me your traditional big balls! Now I am craving a thai iced tea - thanks for your post, you have caused an itch that I cannot scratch until tomorrow!

CheesyWeez · 02/02/2018 11:09

DO NOT GET THE TAPIOCA BALLS (they try to force you as they're free) Get ONLY the fruit-flavoured bubble things. Ooh I want one now, a milk Mango or Papaya tea with Passionfruit bubbles ... x
The fruit flavour pearls burst in your mouth in a fruit explosion. no chewy bits, just little balls with fruit juice in them.
The tapioca ones are ick, Just ask for the tea without.

theaveragewife · 02/02/2018 12:19

The bubbles remind me of those bubble gum sweets with ‘juice’ in the middle. I didn’t like those either, something about firm stuff with watery stuff in makes me a bit queasy.

TheWizardofWas · 02/02/2018 12:36

We are big fans. DS will only have tapioca balls. Love it.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 02/02/2018 17:38

Sticking my toe in the stormy waters of place name politics, but maybe people in Europe said Far East, because, you know, it's Far away. Whereas it's closer to Australasia, so they said Sth east Asia to differentiate from the rest of Asia. I dunno, but it's not really offensive to say Far East imho.its just a description.

RadicalFern · 02/02/2018 23:38

Only, we also say South East Asia; when we're talking about specifically the bit of East Asia with Thailand and Laos and whatnot in it.

(I like bubble tea, but having drunk it in China for many years I can't cope with paying the sky high prices for it in the UK)

Smarmydrippings · 03/02/2018 00:01

Interestingly I have travelled and tried bubble tea. It wasn't to my personal taste. But it wasn't in any way offensive in the way of bubbleoligiy

I love bubble tea! In the height of my Pokemon Go phase I’d cart myself to Chinatown 3x a week, get a giant iced matcha bubble tea with custard pieces in and prowl around Leicester Square until my battery died. Good times Grin.

SteamyBeignets · 03/02/2018 00:20

Love bubble tea, love durian. King of fruits!
