Why do some people think that it's ok to ask for freebies in return for a few blog posts these days? How about the novel concept of getting off the internet, getting a job and actually paying for stuff?!

Am I showing my age and being hopelessly old fashioned, or is this just someone being really cheeky. It's not as if she's Kim sodding Kardashian and would really raise the profile (although to be fair KK would put me off!!).

The owner is a wind up merchant and the fact he sent the invoice after the thug had relatively died down just shows he's trying to get attention. The vlogger is a self entitled CF but that's what happens when you grow up with YouTube and see role models making a career from it

It’s the self-centred way of the world I’m afraid. People thinking that their opinions really matter.

I am far more wary of people getting freebies (ie bribes) than a celeb advertising something like hair dye (yeh, right you slap on a bit of £1.99 colour at home before popping off the the Oscars) or a Tennis player with a logo on their shirt.

But then I’m very cynical and think that this was a publicity stunt anyway. Who’d have heard if her anyway? Like the UKIP girlfriend. PR stunts I’ll be bound.

It looks as if being difficult is his selling point - I don't necessarily like that, but I have more sympathy with him as he actually runs a cafe and hotel, which is very hard work.

She's just pouring into a camera. That was exactly what I was saying - HOW has YouTube come to be seen as a viable career?! I feel old...

I admire her. She has balls. Well, I admired her letter but lost respect when she went bleating about his reply.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. The owner of the cafe / hotel simply out played her. Ironic as she made a big point about his age meaning he didn't understand social media. Whether you like him or not, he has a far better grasp of it that she does and this isn't the first time he's demonstrated it.

I do wish she'd waited to record that video reply until her gross red-eye thing had gone.

The " I'm a social media influencer" and it's my "job" had me in stitches. When I was a sahm I had a small youtube channel and would email companies complementing them and would get vouchers off or free samples. Then make a video about it. Does that make me a " social media influencer" she has a video of herself getting up and going to hospital and saying i can't remember when i got up this early. Try having a proper job love!.

Watching that woman just made me incredibly proud of my DDs to be honest - they're all out there with the start of decent careers, and don't expect anything for nothing. I find it really sad that any attractive young woman feels the need to shove their face full of cosmetic fillers and sit in front of a camera thinking the world owes them a living.

She's a poor example. Most young people do not think or act this way (but then they're not the ones who'll make massive viral headlines).

If i own a hotel someone asking for the would be gaureenteed the keys for the bedroom with the smallest size and worst veiw. I would reserve my best for people who weren't dicks.

I run a business and would definitely consider giving a blogger something for free if they’d write about it, it’s how loads of my potential customers hear about things? I can’t see how it’s different to a magazine asking to come and stay in return for an article that’ll be ready by 70,000 people?

The fact I think social media is bullshit doesn’t stop millions of people from using it to find places to stay/things to do?

That's the link I'm missing. Why would I look at her blog or vlog or whatever and think, ooh yes, must stay there/eat there/buy this. She's not done anything in her life that's worthy of admiration or respect, so why would she "influence" people? Confused

Are they just really credulous? Or am I really really missing something wonderful about her and her ilk?!

Plipp Yes, but presumably to a blogger who had the right following and target audience for your business? This girl is mostly followed by teenage girls and talks about make up and Primark. Not the audience for going to hotels in Dublin. And he has far more followers than she had. And what an unusual time to suddenly decided to want to do something about a hotel on your site - a five-day/four night free jaunt in Dublin over Valentine's weekend, the second most expensive hotel time of the year.

Advertising is a job.

Its an industry which employs vast numbers of people including many working online.

She has offered a service with pricing, they have rejected it, presumably because they see no return on the money.

If she has already done the work without a contract she was working 'at risk' and the hotel has no obligation to her.

If its CFery to preemptively offer a service with samples of the service then most businesses wouldn't get off the ground.

Anyone who has made actual money out of social blogging can tell you a longish tale of slog before they see any return.
