How do you pronounce

Nanny0gg · 22/01/2018 14:09

Eugenie?

The Beeb has just announced her engagement, and said Eu-je-nee..

I always thought it was Euj-ay-nee.

It is, isn't it?

FuckwitteryIsAllAround · 22/01/2018 14:10

You-Genie.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 22/01/2018 14:11

You-jane-ee.

araiwa · 22/01/2018 14:11

im fairly sure the bbc will have the correct pronunciation of a member of the royal family

EggsonHeads · 22/01/2018 14:11

You-jean-ee
Like Eugiene but with an ee at the end or like Eugenia without the a

SparklyMagpie · 22/01/2018 14:11

You-genie

DuruttiColumnist · 22/01/2018 14:12

Fergie and Eugenie claimed once that they always have to correct people and tell them its 'use-your-knees' not 'Eugaynie'. The Eugenie I know pronounces it the 'Eujaynie' way.

tabbywabby · 22/01/2018 14:12

It's You-Genie

elQuintoConyo · 22/01/2018 14:12

You-jeany.

MaryPoppinsStoleMyHandbag · 22/01/2018 14:12

I say you-genie.

DuruttiColumnist · 22/01/2018 14:13

So more like 'YOU-ginny'

PossiblyPFB · 22/01/2018 14:13

I had a friend at school with this name and it was pronounced Uh-je-nee - her family was French.

ThisLittleKitty · 22/01/2018 14:14

You-genie. I sound like I'm putting on an Australian accent if I say it the other way.

PointlessUsername · 22/01/2018 14:14

Eu-je-nee.

MikeUniformMike · 22/01/2018 14:15

Yoo-zhay-nee or Ewe-genie

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 22/01/2018 14:16

I've heard Princess Eugenie's name pronounced the way I mentioned various times. Good enough for me.

Finnbuktu · 22/01/2018 14:16

A royal correspondent on some news show years ago explained it as rhyming with ‘usually’. So it’s not a hard ‘G’ sound, more a ‘sh’ sound.

You-she-knee is the closest phonetic spelling I can think of

Katedotness1963 · 22/01/2018 14:16

You-geenee

Pearlsaringer · 22/01/2018 14:17

When she was born she was def announced as Yew-jhay-nee with a soft 'j'. Blame the BBC.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 22/01/2018 14:17

You-genie

Secretlifeofme · 22/01/2018 14:18

Just GrinGrin at the fact that pretty much everyone on the thread has said something different!
I think it's YOU- juh-knee. Even though I want to pronounce it you-JEE-knee, I think that's wrong according to the interview mentioned above.

stevie69 · 22/01/2018 14:21

I urge everyone to call their daughters Anne. Such a simple step that would surely resolve the dilemma one and for all Grin

stevie69 · 22/01/2018 14:22

But I do like the name Eugenie Smile

Maremaremare · 22/01/2018 14:24

I also read an article once saying Sarah and Eugenie tell people it's pronounced like "Use Your Knees".

RoseWhiteTips · 22/01/2018 14:27
Trinity66 · 22/01/2018 14:27

you-genie
