Eugenie?

The Beeb has just announced her engagement, and said Eu-je-nee..

I always thought it was Euj-ay-nee.

It is, isn't it?

I always thought it was you-jee-nee. I'd say you-jay-nee if it was spelt with an acute accent over the middle E, but I don't think hers is.

etap · 22/01/2018 14:33

Lizard

MsHarry · 22/01/2018 14:34

You-zzen-ee

MsHarry · 22/01/2018 14:35

Actually you-je-nee with the je as in je taime.

SoupDragon · 22/01/2018 14:37

The Beeb has just announced her engagement, and said Eu-je-nee..

That’s how she pronounces it.

BitOutOfPractice · 22/01/2018 14:38

I heard the BBC say Eu-Jay-Nee earlier

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 22/01/2018 14:41

Same BitOf.

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/01/2018 14:41

Eu Jee nee
Like the French.

diddl · 22/01/2018 14:41

2mins in

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/01/2018 14:42

Je I mean.

k2p2k2tog · 22/01/2018 14:43

Her middle names are Victoria Helena. Maybe she calls herself Vix. Or Uge. Or Gee.

Jappydooda · 22/01/2018 14:43

I much prefer her to Bee-triss!

Not sure I like her ring - padparacha sapphire - bit low key for a Princess.

BitOutOfPractice · 22/01/2018 14:46

Ah diddl yes, she says eu-gee-ne - she says it very fast, and the g is a soft g

That seems to clear that up then

I had no idea she had scoliosis

OuaisMaisBon · 22/01/2018 14:48

A Torygraph interview with her in 2008 had this to say:

"And, by the way, her name is not pronounced you-JAY-nee. It's YOO-genny, with the stress on the "Eu". "Whenever we used to meet foreign people who were struggling with it, my mum and I would help them by saying, 'It's like Use Your Knees.' But whatever. I am now used to every pronunciation." To friends she is "Youj" or "Bouj"."

OuaisMaisBon · 22/01/2018 14:51

Ah, thank you, diddl Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 22/01/2018 14:52

I think she looks gorgeous in the engagement pictures, Her hair is lush.

Not a royalist at all but they always seem like fun girls.

KindDogsTail · 22/01/2018 14:53

I think it can be You-gee-nee,

but also Eff-jenny

Eltonjohnssyrup · 22/01/2018 14:54

Wouldn't you get the proper arse on with your parents if you had to go through life explaining your name to people?

Eltonjohnssyrup · 22/01/2018 14:55

It's YOO-genny, with the stress on the "Eu"

So she's a bloody remainer n'all?

SoupDragon · 22/01/2018 14:55

There are plenty of names that can be pronounced in different ways.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 22/01/2018 14:56

She's got the same engagement ring as her Mam.

Mrsmadevans · 22/01/2018 15:00

It is similar , I think it is lovely

AlpacaLypse · 22/01/2018 15:02

You - jeh - neh. Emphasis on first syllable.

diddl · 22/01/2018 15:05

HM also says it , about 9s in.

midsomermurderess · 22/01/2018 15:05

I heard Prince Andrew say Eugenie, all run together.
