Bread & Butter

Tableauz · 21/01/2018 19:41

Tonight we had homemade cassoulet with freshly baked bread. I spread butter on mine to dip in the stew - it was delicious! DH was appalled as apparently dipping bread should not have butter on. WIBU??

Butter+bread+stew= yummy in my tummy. YANBU.

dontticklethetoad · 21/01/2018 19:43

It is probably terribly uncouth, but I absolutely would Grin

Cassoulet and crusty bread is my favourite, so next time you make it, I'll come round and share it with you instead of your Dh.

UrbaneSprawl · 21/01/2018 19:43

YANBU. DH is as wrong as raisins on this one.

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 21/01/2018 19:43

Sounds amazing!

athingthateveryoneneeds · 21/01/2018 19:44

Butter makes most things taste better, ime.

CheeseGirl4 · 21/01/2018 19:44

No. You are a grown woman so able to make a decision for yourself about whether you have butter or not.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 21/01/2018 19:44

YANBU.

Plumes · 21/01/2018 19:45

What kind of weirdo dips with dry bread? The butter is an essential element required to glue sauce to bread.

Els1e · 21/01/2018 19:45

It was my DP who introduced me to the loveliness of putting butter on my dipping bread a few years ago. I am now struggling to give it up in my attempt to lose a few pounds.

frasier · 21/01/2018 19:45

I dip buttered bread into soft boiled eggs if that helps!

FadedRed · 21/01/2018 19:46

Your stew+your bread= your rules
As long as you were not 1) dipping your bread in his stew (oh er sounds a bit rude!) 2) Insisting that buttered bread was the ONLY way, then YANBU.

barefoofdoctor · 21/01/2018 19:59

Butter? What extravagance!

NancyJoan · 21/01/2018 20:01

I wouldn’t, but I really really wouldn’t care if you did

ToadOfSadness · 21/01/2018 20:05

I am a weirdo, I dip with dry bread. Just don't like the taste of butter in a sauce or gravy.

However I sometimes put butter on the bread I use to clean the mix of salad cream and olive oil left after I finish a salad, if there is no butter it doesn't bother me. I also make sandwiches without butter.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 21/01/2018 20:08

Nope...yanbu! ! No other way !!

Callaird · 21/01/2018 20:10

Definitely with butter. Your DH is very wrong.

HTH

Bambamber · 21/01/2018 20:10

YANBU

KitKatCHA · 21/01/2018 20:16

Definitely with butter, not worth dipping otherwise!

Eminybob · 21/01/2018 20:16

Yes I dip with butter. Same with soup.
Dh doesn’t though he’s never judged for doing it.

Eminybob · 21/01/2018 20:17

*judged me

dontticklethetoad · 21/01/2018 20:19

And just to say, my husband does not put butter on his bread for dipping either. Nor does he put butter in sandwiches. He eats cheese sandwiches with no pickle/relish/butter Shock

Eliza9917 · 21/01/2018 20:35

I never eat bread without butter, the only exception might be pitta bread & hummus but even then I slather those in butter most of the time too.

BackforGood · 21/01/2018 20:37

What's "cassoulet'' ?
Is it a different word for casserole, or are they different things ?

Mybabystolemysanity · 21/01/2018 20:39

Missing point of thread too, but can you post roughly your cassoulet recipe?

Whatwouldkeithrichardsdo · 21/01/2018 20:40

None of his business.
