About making drinks?

Aibu here?

When you make a glass of water or squash, do you let the cold tap run for a few seconds before filling the glass, so that the water is nice and cold?

Dh says I'm being weird but I think the water comes out a bit room temperature at first and needs to run cold.

Yes, always let the water run cold!

Owlettele · 14/01/2018 22:19

Yep!!! It's how my mum did it and therefore showed me. Always done it your way!

GreenTulips · 14/01/2018 22:20

I run the tap - the water has been sitting above ground so is warm - much nicer colder

ShatnersBassoon · 14/01/2018 22:21

Of course water runs colder once you've cleared the bit that's been sitting in the pipes inside your house.
My drinking water comes out of the fridge 🥛

Idontdowindows · 14/01/2018 22:26

I grew up in a country where the first bit of water would be brown before running clear, so it's tap open, tap off, tap open for me.

Recently met up with an old friend I grew up with there and she also still does the exact same thing :)

LyraPotter · 14/01/2018 22:30

Omg yes I am obsessive about this! I let the tap run for a good 15 seconds and it's taken me a couple of years to train my husband to do the same!

GreenTulips · 14/01/2018 22:31

Also we have a mixer tap and if someone has run the hot - the water in the pipes would be warm water

Pinkwintersocks · 14/01/2018 22:32

I knew it wasn't just me.

And yes about the mixer tap, it's still hot water after the hot tap has been used.

NotCornflakes · 14/01/2018 22:32

Yes, I always let the tap run cold. It's a waste of water though, I really should get a jug or a big bottle to keep in the fridge.

Allthewaves · 14/01/2018 22:33

Yes of course

MaidOfStars · 14/01/2018 22:33

Run until cold.

Into a spare bottle, to water plants etc. Don’t waste water!

Biscuits101 · 14/01/2018 22:35

Definitely! Thought it was just me!

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 14/01/2018 22:38

Run the tap to clear the water that's been standing in the pipes, especially if your pipes are old. Try to use that water though, for watering plants, etc. rather than waste it.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 14/01/2018 22:39

Yes I do it but always feel a bit guilty at the waste.

UrsulaPandress · 14/01/2018 22:39

Too bloody right. Our water sits in a pipe under the kitchen floor next to the Aga. Needs a good minute or so to run proper cold.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 14/01/2018 22:41

Always run the tap first and even though my bathroom is downstairs so the water isn't traveling any further through the pipes I absolutely can't drink bathroom tap water it definitely tastes different.

Weezol · 14/01/2018 22:42

Yes, I run the tap - I usually run the first ten - fifteen seconds or so into the kettle or watering can so there's no waste.

ObiJuanKenobi · 14/01/2018 22:46

Of course!

SomethingAboutNothing · 14/01/2018 22:49

I have to run the tap first, yes. I get irrationally annoyed if someone makes me a drink and doesn't too. The water doesn't taste right.

KC225 · 15/01/2018 01:35

Oh yes, always run it cold. My kids do it also

Greensleeves · 15/01/2018 01:46

God yes, I loathe tepid drinks. If I haven't got any ice in I run the tap until the water's cold. What's dh's beef? Does he actually believe it doesn't work, or does he just think nasty tepid squash is ok?

Ukelou · 15/01/2018 01:52

Never i hate cold water never drink anything from the fridge except white wine all soft drinks have to be room temperature.

MinorRSole · 15/01/2018 02:01

Yes, always did it growing up to clear the pipes first. These days it's not necessary but old habits die hard. I live in north Scotland though so the water is pretty cold anyway!

PyongyangKipperbang · 15/01/2018 02:24

I do I but I run it into the washing up bowl (or any pans etc) to soak them so they can go through the 30 min fast wash in the dishwasher thus saving even more water and leccy.

Do I get a badge? Wink

derangedmermaid · 15/01/2018 03:37

Nope. I fill the glass three times before I settle.

Has to be the three. Hmm
