Fucking hell.... Is this hell thrush?

hungryhippo90 · 14/01/2018 17:35

I'm on antibiotics at the moment, so my first thought is, it must be thrush...

My bits are on FIRE... I feel a kind of pressure down there if it makes any sense, it hurts to pee.

Its only come on this afternoon... I've no idea how to find an all night pharmacy if that's it, but this is a really niggly annyoing frustrating kind of feeling.

Cystitis?

Loveache · 14/01/2018 17:38

Be careful- I treated myself for thrush when it was actually a UTI and ended up in hospital with a kidney infection a few days later...

Rebeccaslicker · 14/01/2018 17:40

Do you need to pee constantly as well? If so it sounds more like how my friend describes cystitis/UTI.

Def worth going to talk to the pharmacist. Hope it dies down soon.

niccyb · 14/01/2018 17:42

Hat definitely sounds like thrush. I get it when on certain antibiotics such as penicillin. You should stop taking the antibiotics and speak to the GP for an alternative. X

BWatchWatcher · 14/01/2018 17:43

If you feel a pressure and almost constant need to pee along with a lovely stinging sensation when you do pee then it could well be cystitis.
Warm bath helps. It is hell.

niccyb · 14/01/2018 17:44

It can also hurt to pee when you have thrush but like you my bits were on fire.

DragonBone · 14/01/2018 17:47

Dab some raw apple cider vinegar on your bits - it will sting a bit but once that passes it helps heaps !

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 14/01/2018 18:00

Sounds like thrush (combined with your details about being on ABs) I think the Co-Operative type shops sell Canesten .. I'd go and get some it won't do any harm

hungryhippo90 · 14/01/2018 18:09

Can I just ask, does anyone bleed with thursh here? I've just wiped and there's lots of blood. Sorry to be a pain.

OP posts:
iveburntthetoast · 14/01/2018 18:13

I’ve never bled. Sounds more like a UTI, although I’m not sure whether bleeding is normal.

A warning that my DH has had a few kidney stones and his first symptoms are similar to a UTI, but with bleeding.

londonmummy1966 · 14/01/2018 18:15

I'd call NHS direct as that sounds pretty nasty and it may well be a UTI rather than thrush.

snoofy · 14/01/2018 18:15

I have bled with thrush when everything was very inflamed.
Have you taken any painkillers?

meredintofpandiculation · 14/01/2018 18:16

Sounds like cystitis, especially if it hurts particularly when you finish the wee. Do you have "urgency" - sudden need to wee, and touch-and-go as to whether you actually get there in time? But I would have expected your antibiotics to keep a urinary infection at bay.

If it's cystitis, drink lots, so your wee isn't so strong. Take a sample first thing in the morning into a clean bottle and get to the GP. If you have a dull pain low down in your abdomen, try painkillers and a hot water bottle.

If it's thrush, ignore everything I've said.

It might be worth squatting down with a mirror and a torch, and seeing if you can see what's going on down there.

Paintspotsonthefloor · 14/01/2018 18:21

I've had both thrush and multiple UTIs. What you describe definitely sounds like a UTI and quite a severe case at that. Thrush, ime, has always been more about an intense itchiness and cottage cheese discharge. Pain on weeing, pressure, blood etc = UTI.

You need to ring out of hours doctors now and get antibiotics tonight.

hungryhippo90 · 14/01/2018 18:36

Thank you all, I've just called 111 and I've been crying down the phone like a dope, theyve booked me in with an OOH GP for later tonight, thank you all,
I've only ever had thrush and a UTI once each before, and both were quite a few years ago so I can't really remember the specifics of each one, just that the way I'm feeling at the moment is v uncomfortable--- and this has come on very quick!

Quite surprised that It could be a UTI as I'm on antibiotics as it is for a chest infection... Starting to see a bit of a trend here, coughing up blood last week, this week it's there when I pee! Lol, thank you all for your advice, I will definitely be following it...hopefully Drs will have me sorted within the next few hours!

FlowersCakeBrewWine- for you all!

Yes, getting a UTI while on ABs is a bit weird, but then, not all anti biotics deal with all infections. Perhaps you are on a specific chest infection ab? I know that the ABs prescribed for UTIs tend to be one or two specific ones.

That said, I am pretty sure my first case of thrush came on as a result of taking ABs for a UTI but, as I remember it, it wasn't whilst I was still taking the course of ABs, but a few days later.

Anyway, a doctor will be able to fix you up. Good luck tonight. Flowers

hungryhippo90 · 14/01/2018 18:46

Paint, that's what's niggling at me. I'm on 3x amoxicillin per day. I can't understand it myself, which is why I thought ah it must be thrush. Bit worrying, but also the 3x at 8 hour intervals seems a weird dosage too! I'll ask Dr tonight as it does seem most unusual...:-(

Have had a UTI with lots of blood. So painful - easily in the top 3 most painful experiences of my life. Was pregnant at the time and thought the blood along with the pain meant I was losing the baby. Such a relief that it was 'only' a UTI.

The bacteria causing the UTI might not respond to the antibiotics you're on already, so quite possible to have it despite the antibiotics.

LostStars39 · 14/01/2018 19:02

I hope the Drs sort it Flowers
Thrush and UTIs are pure evil! I had thrush a couple of years ago that made me swell up down there and was so sore and inflamed I could barely wear underwear! My skin started cracking and bleeding when it rubbed against my underwear and then I came on my period, all while I was on holiday Angry

IfeelFloopy · 14/01/2018 19:51

I feel lucky to say that I have never had to experience much in the way of pain in my life, but I have had my fair share of uti. I would rather have any other pain I have ever experienced x 10 than have it. I find it excruciating.

I’ve heard that being on antibiotics for some things can cause uti. The antibiotics you get to treat uti will be different.

I find that my symptoms are usually relieved within a few hours of taking my first tablet. Make sure you drink plenty to flush the infection out. Some people have said that peeing under running water relieves the pain they feel when they go, although I have no tried it myself.

Hope you are feeling better soon

hungryhippo90 · 14/01/2018 21:06

My God, I thought that UTIs and Thrush were quite straight forward....not very painful conditions until this thread, and tonight! I feel like a right wimp but it's really quite painful, and by the sounds of it I've got it easy, though NHS 111 thought it was serious enough to get me to see a Dr this evening.
Going over to the hospital for my OOH appt in an hour-long my husband thinks I'm mad going out in my PJs, but I've explained there's no way I'm putting leggings or skinny jeans on, the way I feel!

Thank you all for the support. I'll let you all know what Dr says!

I send sympathy

I just had the worst ever thrush this week and it hurt and my whole Bits (not being a prude just don’t want to come up in a search) were red and inflamed . I have honestly never had it so bad and it’s shafted now after 2 pill , one pessary and a tube of Canesten

That said with the blood it sounds like it’s something that’s for sure . So good luck x

I got thrush for the first time recently and before I did I had no idea it could make one feel quite as ill and miserable as can. I did bleed a bit (possibly as a consequence of itching/scratching) and wasn’t sure what the problem was until I got the distinctive discharge.

I’m a bit shy about seeing doctors about such things so ordered Canesten Combi on amazon prime and was feeling fine again within hours of taking the tablet the following day.

Best of luck with the doctor - it’s sensible to get checked out.
