8 out of 10 lumps found in breast are not cancerous! try not to worry too much ( easier said than done ) if your doctor isn't worried then that's a good sign. are you going to the breast clinic for a scan?

Gincision · 11/01/2018 17:22

It's highly unlikely to be breast cancer. Less than 3% of breast lumps in a lady of your age will be cancer. You should be seen within 2 weeks for a review and a scan. The features your gp had describe are all signs of a benign lump. Hopefully you'll be further reassured when you're seb but even in the unlikely event that it is a cancer, most breast cancers are treatable and curable. Good luck. (I'm a breast surgeon)

Bastard autocorrect...

Read what Gincision has said, and keep reading it whenever you're worried. They're right and they know what they're on about. Flowers

hand hold I had a lump a couple of years ago which thankfully turned out to be nothing. Apparently around 30 breast tissue can clump together in a "frozen peas" effect, which is what mine was.
The scan is nothing to worry about, they'll take good care of you whatever the outcome. I'm sure it'll be nothing especially at your age.
Good luck :)

I,m older than you, my mum died of bc and when i got a lump a few years ago i thought the worse.
Had mammogram and biopsy.
It was a calcium lump that eventually vanished on its own.
Please try to keep positive.

I found lump in breast when I was 17. Went straight to doc who was sure it was cyst but referred me for hospital test to make sure. I signed consent for mastectomy before op to remove part of lump and test for cancerous cells whilst still under GE.
All fine, was cyst.
Maternal gm found lump but was afraid to go to doc in case it was cancer, so didn't. ......she died of breast cancer

Always always get lumps checked. Being afraid won't make it go away, and the chances of full recovery with early treatment are excellent.

Cazz10 please try not to worry at this stage. For the past 10 years I've been having breast lumps, maybe once a year. Thankfully all have been cysts. The point I'd like to make is that the staff at the breast clinics are amazing, so calm and caring they really put you at ease. I can't praise them highly enough. I was like you the first time, petrified and went for my appointment on my own. I had a mammogram first, then an ultrasound and a fine needle aspiration of the cyst. There was always a staff member to hold my hand and it wasn't half as bad as I'd anticipated. You are doing the right thing and I'm sure all will be well xx

Cazz10 · 11/01/2018 18:20

Thanks so much ladies for your reassurance it really means Alot I just couldn't help but think the worst.. Yes lucylouuu my doctor said they'll probably give me a scan at the clinic

You're doing the right thing lass. A handhold from me.

Namechanged36 · 11/01/2018 18:37

I had a lump a few years ago. I was terrified and ignored it for ages.
Eventually I went to the GP & similar to you he referred me to the breast clinic. I got a really quick appointment (which made me worry more) but they were fantastic and were able to tell me very quickly that it was a cyst and no treatment needed.
They are very used to dealing with terrified women I think and couldn't have been more reassuring.
Good luck with your appointment.

Cazz10 · 11/01/2018 19:21

Hand hold from me - I have very lumpy cystic small ones so everything seems magnified when I find a new one which can spring up overnight. It's absolutely terrifying even having been diagnosed as cystic and knowing in all probability that's what the new little shit (pet name for them) is. I have been to the clinic many times now and even know some of the team but it's just as hard every time waiting for the diagnosis thinking the worst. I do hope everything is ok for you. Best wishes going with you xxx

Hi
I have had both a cyst and cancerous tumour. A cyst has smooth round edges like a pea and is rubbery, a tumour is hard and has rough uneven edges.
Cysts are very common try not to worry.

sarahC40 · 11/01/2018 22:35

I had a very odd hard edged lump - was v v frightened as lots of history of both cysts and b cancer in the family. I was fine, but wanted to say how brilliantly kind the staff are; how skilled they are at dealing with stressed out, terrified people; and that I’ve never had better nhs treatment than then. I really hope that you get the same care and that you have the best of news.

IHATEPeppaPig · 11/01/2018 22:36

I've found 2 breast lumps and been referred twice - both have been cysts. It is more than likely nothing to worry about but it is great that you are breast aware.

Please try not to worry too much Thanks

Barmymammy · 11/01/2018 22:37

I’ve had three cysts in my breast. The waiting to find out isn’t nice but mine were all just cysts, most are. 💐

chocolateorangeowls · 11/01/2018 22:38

I had similar when I was about 16, turned out to be a cyst. The wait to find out is horrible ☹️

Pumperthepumper · 11/01/2018 22:38

Mine was towards my armpit and turned out to be a blocked milk duct. You’ve done exactly the right thing getting it checked, well done 👍👍

Funnyfunnyhaha · 11/01/2018 22:39

I’m a similar age to you OP and I’ve been to the breast clinic recently. It’s nothing to worry about, I had an ultra sound then needle biopsy as due to my age my breast tissue was too dense.
My lumps are nothing to worry about as previous posters have said most lumps are nothing. Flowers

AtrociousCircumstance · 11/01/2018 22:41

I found a lump when I was your age - it was just a cyst. I’m sure you’ll be fine Smile

Bluemugajug · 11/01/2018 22:44

Came on to reassure you but gin got here first!

I work in the Breast unit and honestly the amount of benign lumps that come out screening is huge...cancer in someone your age...v v v unlikely. Honestly I see swathes of results which are cysts, fatty lumps and hormonal changes. Even when it is cancer it’s usually DCIS which is really really treatable.

Don’t worry yourself, bet my bottom dollar it turns out to be nothing.

Unescorted · 11/01/2018 22:50

I had this a couple of weeks ago - mammogram showed a lump so I was referred to the clinic. Went on Tuesday and it was a cyst. As others have said they are common. It is difficult not to worry but more than likely it will be ok.

Cazz10 · 12/01/2018 09:26

Thanks for all you're nice comments of reassurance.. I just wish I was seen because the waiting really is awful.. I also have a bad habit of putting my mobile phone in my bra and this happens to be the side I have the lump I wonder could this be anything to do with the lump
