Was out today with 2 of my DC and we went past a shop with rollerskates in the window.
I said how cheap they were for me, as am only a size 5!
My DS said I am too old to teach myself to rollerskate and if I got injured it would be worse for me than these young uns!

I am only 50!!

So please, people, talk me into ignoring him and tell me of things you do that the young uns would frown upon!

Omg op I have just bought a pair off ebay - I am 46!! Lots of nice ones on there!!

RosiePosiePuddingPie · 10/01/2018 20:28

When I was in a roller derby team, several of my teammates were in mid to late 40s. Roller skating is ace.

PorklessPie · 10/01/2018 20:30

I'm really tempted to get myself some roller boots. Go for it Smile

Figrollsnotfatrolls · 10/01/2018 20:30

I may have to promise ds 14 that I will skate in disguise - maybe a hoody?
Can't take our ddogs, all easily identified by the neighbours!! And prob trip over them!!

John4703 · 10/01/2018 20:30

Thank you so much TheFrogWithLibraryBooks.
I often walk past teenagers doing fantastic tricks on skate boards and I really want to ask them if I can have a go.
You have inspired me to ask - I am 70

TheFrogWithLibraryBooks · 10/01/2018 20:33

They're 35-45 so I thought that was cheap!
Should I get all the protective gear for when I go out of the house in them?

Maybe a secret skating club for over 40's?
Hoody, maybe leg warmers??

TheFrogWithLibraryBooks · 10/01/2018 20:37

The full 70s glam rock look, probably without the flares tho! Grin

I'm slightly older than you but fancy a skateboard, not sure if I have the guts to

RosiePosiePuddingPie · 10/01/2018 20:39

Yes get all the safety gear! I have a skull and crossbones helmet. ;)

TheFrogWithLibraryBooks · 10/01/2018 20:40

Go for it @John4703! I used to love my skateboard, many moons ago!

Oh I’d love to roller skate again, they were all the rage when I was growing up. We need to bring them back!

Go for it OP!

TheFrogWithLibraryBooks · 10/01/2018 20:45

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling like I used to when I was brave and fearless!

I'll be out there with my sledge if we get more snow, and I'm a long way past 50

metacrisis · 10/01/2018 20:49

I'm 45 and I have a pair of Riedells that I got for roller derby. I love them.

fannyfelcher · 10/01/2018 20:51

Im 38 and often go to the Roller rink in Wigan. Last time I was there I got taking to this lovely old guy. He is 83 and him and his best mate were doing the speed skating rounds. he said he has had his hips replaced twice and his mates has had stents and all sorts. But they were quicker than a lot of the young guys and they are my new heroes. NEVER to old to do a fun activity that keeps you healthy.

thegreatbeyond · 10/01/2018 20:53

My DD told me I 'need to stop' wearing jeans because I was too old. I was 36!

LittleMissGiggle5 · 10/01/2018 20:56

Dye your hair multicoloured while you're at it! or get a blue rinse Grin

BossyBitch · 10/01/2018 20:59

I told my mum she was too old to wear makeup when she was 34. I'm now 36 and very sorry I said that! Shock

eosmum · 10/01/2018 21:13

My dad wouldn't let me have skates as a child because his sister broke her arm on them. I'm nearly 50 how can I learn, I've always wanted to.

Sashkin · 10/01/2018 21:15

I want some Heelies Blush

TheFrogWithLibraryBooks · 10/01/2018 21:20

Well I intend to practice in my living room first to get my balance on the carpet, then off to my daughters wooden floors!

No idea when I'll get outside on them, the thought is terrifying and exciting at the same time!
