Was out today with 2 of my DC and we went past a shop with rollerskates in the window.
I said how cheap they were for me, as am only a size 5!
My DS said I am too old to teach myself to rollerskate and if I got injured it would be worse for me than these young uns!

I am only 50!!

So please, people, talk me into ignoring him and tell me of things you do that the young uns would frown upon!

Tell your DC that you will wear [[https://www.polyvore.com/roller_skate_girl_derby_70s/thing?id=125719018 this][ when roller skating and that nobody will notice your face.

Problem solved.

I'd love to get some skates!! Go for it:)

Inthedeepdarkwinter · 10/01/2018 21:29

I have roller-skated in the last year, I'm 47, it was ace fun and I really remembered how to do it from when I was about 13! The memory of how to go around the rink hadn't left me! Definitely the right age to take it up; some of the mums go to roller derbys/competitions as well if they are really good (I wasn't, just enjoyed pottering around a local rink).

Bubblysqueak · 10/01/2018 21:29

Definelty get them. I got an adult size scooter for mothersday and it's great fun.

TheFrogWithLibraryBooks · 10/01/2018 21:30

Love it! Grin
They'd disown me! Grin

Everything I say, do and wear is 'sooo embarrassing ' according to my 12 year old. So I say learn to skate! Embarrass and be damned!

Reallycantbebothered · 10/01/2018 21:36

I went rollerblading at dc party when I was 40 and broke my bloody wrist

alotalotalot · 10/01/2018 21:42

I don't think we "bounce" quite like the young 'uns do. But hey I love skating.

NC4now · 10/01/2018 21:44

I’ve had a skating injury in recent years but generally I stay upright. It’s all about confidence.
(I’m in my 40s)

ReanimatedSGB · 10/01/2018 21:48

While I would draw the line at rollerskates because I am v unsporty, I don't think anyone is 'too old' for anything they want to do and are physically capable ofdoing, until they are dead.

TheFrogWithLibraryBooks · 10/01/2018 22:01

I am about 3 stone overweight, does anyone know if I'd have to get like heavy duty skates?

When I was 6 my dear grandmother died at age 52. I remember everyone was saying how young she was, ‘too young to die’. I remember thinking at the time they were all wrong because she was very old, so old she had gray in her hair.

When I turned 52 I had a chuckle about younger me’s attitude all this years ago. I knew little kids probably saw me as an old lady even though I was still (in my mind) a sexy beast.

The Queen is in her 90’s and still rides her Fell Ponies. Bless her heart, she’s an inspiration to me.

Popchyk · 10/01/2018 22:26

My sister and I told our mum that she was far too old to wear jogging regalia, particularly in public. I think she was about 38 at the time.

She'd given up cigarettes and was on a health kick. We begged her to go back on the fags as the alternative was having her jogging up and down the street in lurid lycra.

In broad daylight.

In front of people.

DropZoneOne · 10/01/2018 22:47

My mum decided to have a go at roller skating at DDs party 2 years ago. Lost her balance, landed awkwardly and broke her wrist! She was bloody loving it until that point, so perhaps just invest in some wrist supports Grin

Notgrownup · 10/01/2018 22:55

I am 26 and my 4 year old ds told me today that is a really big number. I am old and what was it like in 'the olden days'!!??!?!

mrsharrison · 10/01/2018 22:57

I learnt in my late 30s and was pretty good. But do get all the protective gear you can. Accept that you will fall over at first. That acceptance boosts your confidence.

GinisLife · 10/01/2018 23:48

I'm 57 and overweight but I own roller skates Unfortunately I'm no longer the top skater as I was when I was 11 !! I'm now too scared I'll fall and break something whereas at 11 I was fearless and would do tricks and all sorts of fancy stuff 😂

herecomesthsun · 11/01/2018 01:34

Grin I think we should get together as a club. You Ought to Locomote Absurdly (YOLA)

EggsonHeads · 11/01/2018 01:35

I am sure that you his logocanyone over 20 would be too old.

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 11/01/2018 02:10

"only" 50! That's not young! I can say that because I am 45.

50 is getting on a bit! Grin
