Getting DDs name wrong

A person I know keeps spelling my baby DD's name wrong, at first I thought it was just a mistake so made a point of texting back mentioning DD's name with the correct spelling but now constantly since birth this person has been spelling it wrong. Think changing the end of the name from 'y' to 'ie'.

Person I'm talking about is very close immediate family on partner's side and has seen DD lots and had cards etc with DD's name in it, we have a WhatsApp group with DD's name as the title for picture sharing etc and all the other members of the group get it right. Surely it can't be just a mistake anymore? I've known the person in question for 10 years and they are harmless really but they do have form for being a bit funny with me sometimes, like I get in the way of their relationship with partner sometimes sort of thing.

I know it's a first world problem and really doesn't matter at all, but it's really starting to annoy me. Is it so hard to spell it correctly? AIBU?

Ridiculous - they must be doing it on purpose?

Or are they massive fans of David Bowie's son?!?!

(Unless it’s Dendranthema Lavandulifolium or something like that, of course)

I can see that being in the top ten this year! Brilliant! :D

I get really pissed off that some people can’t manage a multi-syllable name. I say it to them, they say it back wrongly. It’s not hard, not foreign, I even say ‘Call me xx’ as in the initials and they even fuck that up, these are people who see me daily. So frustrating.

Zowie!! Blimey. What do they say when dh or you point it out?? Do they hate the name zoe or just think she deserves a wow in her name?

My mil keeps writing her name as Grannie instead of Granny and I'm a right bitch and refuse to go with the ie version so continue to use the y version. This will go on for dd's entire life I'm sure. But zowie!!!

Does it matter? My great aunt got my name wrong (like really wrong) for my whole life, she was still saying it and spelling it wrong when she died a few years ago.But she loved me and took an interest in me. That is what matter, not whether she can spell or not.

I don't understand why people care about this, to be honest. Look at the sentiment, not the spelling.

No, I can understand why it is annoying (and we do try hard to remember who is katy/katie in our situation, and I do doublecheck, but if I am dashing off an e-mail I sometimes get it wrong).

FWIW, one of my Dad's sisters and all her children consistently call me Natalie, and have for my entire life. My name is nothing like Natalie. It is more like Joanna. That's very odd, but tbf we don't see them that often (quite estranged, and only Christmas cards maybe evry second year) but I would think considering i am 45 they might have got it by now. Grin

They just feigned ignorance for the first few times and now I just ignore it, I’m sure if they knew it winds me up they’d probably enjoy it!
