I'd be keeping that at home.
Just take a tub of hummus and some breadsticks.

lidoshuffle · 31/12/2017 15:23

My Italian teacher says Lidl is the best panettone she's found in the GB; better than M&S, Waitrose etc.

May50 · 31/12/2017 15:24

YANBU - definitely scoff it all yourself :-)

TimeIhadaNameChange · 31/12/2017 15:47

YADDDDDDDDDNU

Panettone is the food of the gods. I only really discovered it a few years ago, despite the family being given a proper, straight-from-Italy one every year for years, which my mother would give away for some reason known only to her (and I was not allowed to open it under any circumstances!). Have to get at least one every year now to make up for it. This year I bought one in November, one when I was at my mother's for Christmas (and, despite the above, she ate half of it) and a third yesterday. It is going nowhere except my stomach (and despite me being on a low-carb diet!).

YADNBU!

The Lidl one is lush. I ate half with a vat of coffee and turned the rest into a pudding.

Yes - I am a greedy sod.

StayAChild · 31/12/2017 16:14

DNBU to eat it all yourself. Why waste it on a party where it won't be appreciated?

We had the Morrisons the Best fruit panettone this year and it was delicious. Even after 3/4 days of opening it was still really soft. It goes down so well with Bucks Fizz. Xmas Smile

Anniegetyourgun · 31/12/2017 16:15

Isn't Lidl supposed to be cheap? Why then, buy a second one to take to the party.

viques · 31/12/2017 16:18

Quite right. No one in their right mind will want to toast and butter panettone in the middle of a party, so save it for your NY breakfast.

alfagirl73 · 31/12/2017 16:19

Panettone is heaven - you are definitely not unreasonable to keep it to yourself! :-)

Theconifers25 · 31/12/2017 16:20

It’s amazing. Is it still in store?

DivisionBelle · 31/12/2017 16:24

You toast panettone??

footballmum · 31/12/2017 16:28

I’m always a bit confused by panettone. Do you slice it and spread it with butter or just eat it plain like a cake? I had a small chocolate one given to me last year and I ended up making a bread and butter pudding out of it-‘‘twas lush!

SofiaAmes · 31/12/2017 16:28

I buy 6 or 7 every year and don't share them with anyone except my kids. :)

MiddleClassProblem · 31/12/2017 16:29

Are you expected to provide it?

Deathraystare · 31/12/2017 16:29

Deffo leave at home . Love it as bread and butter pud!!!

viques · 31/12/2017 16:30

Division Belle, it is just one of the ways I eat it. Eggy bread it is another, or bread and butter pudding, or ripped apart with my bare hands and devoured like a wild animal........

BusterGonad · 31/12/2017 16:32

May I ask why it's so nice? Is it not like Madeira cake?

maddiemookins16mum · 31/12/2017 16:32

Mine is sitting on the kitchen work top all ready for our NYD roast dinner tomorrow. I'm making a bread and butter pudding with 2/3 of it (there'll only be 6 of us and it's a massive one).
The rest will be sliced/portioned up for lunch boxes come Wednesday.

allegretto · 31/12/2017 16:33

It's not nice! We have four in the kitchen as DH always overbuys and doesn't remember that he is the only one that eats it.

LoniceraJaponica · 31/12/2017 16:34

I would rather eat savoury stuff with alcohol anyway. Leave it at home.

thelastredwinegum · 31/12/2017 16:36

It had been reduced to £1.99 yesterday.
Hope there's still some left on Tuesday.

Whitney168 · 31/12/2017 16:37

I bought a pear & chocolate one cheap after Christmas from Waitrose. Thought I'd be reasonably safe from that, but oh dear it was fabulous!

AstridWhite · 31/12/2017 16:38

It's not really party food anyway so I would keep it and take something else.

Gemini69 · 31/12/2017 16:40

Keep it .... Flowers Xmas Grin

neveradullmoment99 · 31/12/2017 16:41

Had a mini one last night with a glass of baileys. Delicious.
