I was meant to be working but off now. I think I'll probably be asleep.
Anyone else treats it as just another night?

Me.

I actually see it as an excuse to go to bed early.

And as for the "new year, new me" bullshit...well that can just fuck off

Frustrationqueen · 31/12/2017 11:40

Just another night to me.

Captainladder · 31/12/2017 11:41

No you are not weird :-) you can celebrate if you want... or not. The pressure to have an amazing night is just consumerism I think.

Namechangetempissue · 31/12/2017 11:42

I don't actually know many people who are doing anything other than a takeaway.

Karigan1 · 31/12/2017 11:42

We’ve had late nights for the last week. We’re looking forward to sleeping lol

Gwenhwyfar · 31/12/2017 11:44

I'll be staying in with a bottle of wine. I don't see it as a chance to go to bed early because there'll be all sorts of shouting and fireworks going on, but I don't want to be spending loads of money with really drunk people.

barofsoap · 31/12/2017 11:49

back from work at 2330, might watch fireworks from home and have glass of bubbly. If I wasn't working in the evening I wouldn't be staying up until midnight

Isesgirl · 31/12/2017 11:51

My husband is going to his parents and staying over as they live in the middle of nowhere and a taxi back after midnight is over £60. If we all went we'd have to come home and pay that as they don't have enough room for all of us to stay. His family make quite the night of it, will have a drink, play games, set off fireworks (not an issue as they have no neighbours).

I am staying home with our twin 9 year olds. We intend to eat our bodyweight in chocolate orange and watch stuff we've recorded over Christmas. It's unlikely we'll stay up until midnight as neither I nor the kids think NYE is special.

Horses for courses and means we're all happy.

Bluntness100 · 31/12/2017 11:54

I'm going for a late lunch with my husband then quiet night in with a few drinks. Our friends kept asking if we wanted to do something but honest to god I just couldn't be arsed. We had a big one over Xmas and this is the first year I've deliberately not done anything on NYE.

I think it's something about it being forced. Like you feel you should and it's normally shite. So time for me to be a grown up and say no thanks...

ApplesTheHare · 31/12/2017 11:56

No, plenty of people don't do anything special. I think it's a bit of a myth that everyone does actually.

JacintaJones · 31/12/2017 11:57

I never do anything NYE as its my birthday on the 30th and I prefer to celebrate that.

Had a lovely meal and drinks with friends last night and I'm a little delicate today so I plan to be in bed at midnight.

Yogagirl123 · 31/12/2017 12:00

Not at all OP, NYE is overated in my opinion. We are doing what we usually do, nice meal at home with DS’s. 2017 has been a rotten year for our family and friends, be pleased to see the back of it. Here’s wishing everyone a peaceful 2018.

LaurieF · 31/12/2017 12:05

We stay in with the kids, do a bit of party food, maybe a board game or two and watch the fireworks. I was invited out this year but rather than coming up with an excuse just said no I don't want to! Which is not like me lol! I can't Thu k of anything worse than paying a fiver or more to go into a pub that's usually free entry to stand queuing to pay over the odds for a glass of wine and not being able to hear myself think... shit I'm old aren't I?! 😂

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 31/12/2017 12:21

I'm glad I'm not the only one haha. All my friends seem to have elaborate plans and I've found myself making excuses not to join or they'd keep badgering me!
I may have a Chinese and bottle of wine but that's just because I cba to cook and I haven't drank the last week due to a bug, not because it's NYE.

CheeseAndBeans · 31/12/2017 12:30

New Year's Eve is so over rated. Everywhere is busy, transport always a nightmare, prices get hiked up. Can't be arsed! We haves stayed at home since having kids. OH is working til midnight tonight so I will be putting the kids to bed, ordering a pizza and watching the crown with a bottle of wine. Perfect!

Agerbilatemycardigan · 31/12/2017 12:38

I'm working until 8.00pm. I also can't be arsed to spend the evening with a load of noisy drunk people, whilst trying to get attention at a crowded bar just to buy a disappointing overpriced drink. Standing around in the freezing cold, attempting to get a cab home in the wee small hours doesn't exactly appeal either.

Maybe I'm just a grumpy old git Grin

OComeHalsallYeFaithful · 31/12/2017 12:45

Not weird at all. I simply don't get all the fuss and never have. It's highly unlikely that 2018 will be any better than 2017 and if that makes me a miserable git, so be it.

I plan to be tucked up in bed at midnight. Wearing earplugs Grin

Unicornfluff · 31/12/2017 12:46

I HATE it and would happily stay home, but DD is of an age where she's started asking 'what are we doing for New Year's Eve?'
sigh

No family, and no party invites this year, so we've booked a late showing at the cinema of a film we were going to see anyway. Gets us out of the house and fills those few angsty hours. Should be home just before midnight, telly on for the chimes, bed.

intothenewyearwego · 31/12/2017 12:48

It’s just an excuse to stay up later gaming for us 😂

RedForFilth · 31/12/2017 12:59

Not celebrating it as I'll be up at 5:30 for work. I'd like to do something, but I love working in care and obviously that means not being able to celebrate anything.

LastNightMyWifeHooveredMyHead · 31/12/2017 13:01

Last time I stayed up to see the New Year in was the millennium - I'm mid 40s Blush

clueless2010 · 31/12/2017 13:06

Not really...some years I love it, others like this year I can't be bothered either!!

Floralnomad · 31/12/2017 13:08

We’ve never done NYE , just another night here .

SkaPunkPrincess · 31/12/2017 13:09

Nope! yanbu, I will be snuggling on the sofa with DH with two sleeping babies upstairs, drinking a bottle of wine and catching up on the latest series of Vikings. we are also having fajitas.

I will be in bed for 10pm 😁

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 31/12/2017 19:31

Ah there's a few of us then! Don't feel as strange now haha
