So upset I got nothing from anyone. I know that you don't give to receive but I spent in excess of £1800 including kids.
Can't even drink as on meds. Just feel so let down. I'm a single mum

How old are your kids? Old enough to buy you something?

Mine are but didn't bother either.

NextIndia · 25/12/2017 17:39

Thanks really unkind Splinterz.

I'm sorry OP. I've been there in previous years and it feels really shitty to be unappreciated, especially when you've gone to so much effort for everyone else. Have you any spare money to treat yourself in the sales?

OnlyAFoolishFool · 25/12/2017 17:39

I'm sorry this happened to you.
How old are your kids?
Next year, sort out your kids and spend the rest on getting some presents for yourself!
Its actually fun.
My 9 year old got me a Toblerone out of his own savings this year. So cute. Depending on your kids ages maybe they could make you something next year?

Splinterz · 25/12/2017 17:41

Unkind? I haven't said a word, but this is the sort of thread that will go completely pear shaped once the interrogation commences.

gonnabreakmyrustycage · 25/12/2017 17:42

Well, just think of all the money you'll save next year by not getting anyone other than your kids a present. Then treat yourself to whatever you feel like.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/12/2017 17:43

((((((((((((((((((((())))))))))))))))))))))
Merry Christmas. WineCake

Sprinterz. Have you never heard the saying. If you've got nothing nice to say keep in zipped.Especially when someone is feeling upset

lastnicknamefree · 25/12/2017 17:43

I don’t be really upset too, my kids are older but always have got me gifts even when they were little and made home made cards. I’m a single parent of 4 too, it’s damn hard work in the run up to Christmas for anyone but doing it unsupported it’s exhausting and I’m sad you didn’t get any gifts!
How old are the children?

FuckingHateHappy · 25/12/2017 17:43

Did you actually expect something? From OH? PILs? Kids?

ButchyRestingFace · 25/12/2017 17:44

It all depends on the age of the kids.

And whether you have any close family.

I got two presents, if it helps. Flowers

Ummmmgogo · 25/12/2017 17:46

I got 2 gifts Smile I bought them and wrapped them for myself Grin joys of single parenthood!

Splinterz · 25/12/2017 17:47

Awwlookatmybabyspider and when I want an opinion I'll ask for it form someone qualified to give it, until them this is a chat forum and I'll point out the innocuous double standards as I see fit. If that's ok with you of course, in your self appointed capacity as uptight forum police.

UnsuspectedItem · 25/12/2017 17:47

Nor did I. I also spent Christmas alone (my choice). These things only have the power you give them - its just a day, let it go. Buy yourself a present if you're really desperate for one, bonus is that you're guaranteed to like it.

John4703 · 25/12/2017 17:47

It is not nice to get nothing. My DW and I were joking about presents, I bought her a lovely mirror (cost £60) and I said there is nothing I need.
I left a present wrapped up under the tree for the past week. She was pleased to open it and discover a new time switch for our central heating, one that she can control using an app on her phone. Not exactly romantic but practical. DW gave me a can of deodorant as she paid for the last supermarket shop when we bought it. my daughter said it is because I smell bad
YANBU to be upset if you got nothing.

Desperada1234 · 25/12/2017 17:49

Flowers I didn’t, either. Another single mum. I will send you a hug.

ButchyRestingFace · 25/12/2017 17:49

Oh, do put a sock in it, Splinterz.

It’s Christmas fecking day. 🙄

Graphista · 25/12/2017 17:50

Op know how you feel this was me when dd was younger. It does get better as they get older.

Which adults did you buy for? While yes you don't give to get there are limits, if others aren't considerate toward you, you don't need to be considerate toward them.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 25/12/2017 17:50

Get a grip @Splinterz, it's unneeded.

Yanbu OP. £1800 WTF.

Want2bSupermum · 25/12/2017 17:51

I'm sorry. Flowers

I can only imagine how hard it is as a single parent. I got four pairs of socks, two sets of mousetraps and a 'mom calendar'. DH thinks the mom calendar is excellent. I crossed out the mom and wrote 'Family' over the top in permanent marker.

MycatsaPirate · 25/12/2017 17:51

I was a single parent for many years and my kids were little. It didn't bother me that I had nothing to open but it bothered my kids so I'd go and buy myself a couple of books and wrap them up for the girls to give to me.

Other than that my parents and siblings didn't bother, my ex didn't think to get the girls something for me (although I would get them something to give him) and it was fine except for my girls being upset.

This year I have got a few little things from dp and my girls but I don't need much and didn't want much, a couple of books, some new slippers and pjs and a dvd. I am happy.

Unless your kids are really tiny and you have no family then YANBU.

Splinterz Wtaf is wrong with you?! It's bloody tough being a single mum and all year it's usually pretty much unappreciated, not unreasonable to want to feel thought of at this time of year.

MozzchopsThirty · 25/12/2017 17:52

That really is shit!
To be fair I bought most of my presents this year then I knew I'd be happy Grin

What meds are you on OP. There's very few you can't drink on

ButchyRestingFace · 25/12/2017 17:58

What meds are you on OP. There's very few you can't drink on

Can’t speak for OP but I’m on metronidazole at the mo and have been told

”Just say ‘no’” Sad

zen1 · 25/12/2017 18:04

Who else did you buy for and how old are the DC? Next year, keep some money back to spend on yourself.
