FFS!! went to baste the turkey and the bloody oven was off. The knob hasn't got the numbers on anymore so we were gauging the temp. I must have turned it down too much.

Must have been off for about 40 minutes. Do you think I should abandon it?

Sooo stressed out

Turn it back on and cook it hard like a bastard Grin
It will be fine !!!

Drink some prosecco or summat

Supermagicsmile · 25/12/2017 12:31

Turn it back on, it will be fine!

FlouncyDoves · 25/12/2017 12:31

Another vote for keep tipsy and carry on.

ChelleDawg2020 · 25/12/2017 12:32

40 minutes is nothing to worry about. Residual heat means it will carry on cooking albeit more slowly. I would suggest leaving it cooking for an hour longer than you had intended though, and ensure it's not pink etc. etc.

Yawningalldaylong · 25/12/2017 12:32

It'll be fine. I managed to do that with a Christmas cake recently (well son turned oven off). Turn oven back on and cook for an extra 45 mind if so. Heat would have stayed in the oven.

LEMtheoriginal · 25/12/2017 12:34

I'm just brewing an espresso - not sure whether to mainline coffee or chateaux nuef du pap just now

OP posts:
Crispbutty · 25/12/2017 12:36

Switch oven back on. It will be fine.

MummySparkle · 25/12/2017 12:38

I'd mainline both Grin

Just keep cooking it and keep it on at the right temp for at least the extra 40mins. It will be fine.

We had a power cut at my grandmas house one Christmas. Had to put the half-cooked turkey in the boot of the car and drive it back to our house to continue cooking it - it was absolutely fine.

Hilariously that Christmas we also bought grandma a wheelbarrow so had wheeled it up to her house (half a mile away) filled with all of the presents in the morning. My mums colleagues got the wheelbarrow and turkey stories muddled and still talk of the time she 'put the half-cooked turkey in the wheelbarrow' Grin

CheckpointCharlie2 · 25/12/2017 12:47

Drink booze. The turkey just needs a bit longer.

Happy Christmas everyone! Xmas Grin

VladamirsPoutine · 25/12/2017 12:50

Another vote for keep tipsy and carry on.

This is pretty much the only Christmas rule to live by. Wine

mummmy2017 · 25/12/2017 12:53

More booze needed and carry on cooking

Saladtongs · 25/12/2017 13:05

Serve Booze and starters/nibbbles about now as dinner will be one hour later! Grin

ChristmasAtSquiffanys · 25/12/2017 13:07

You're lucky.
My bastarding oven wouldn't turn on....

LazyDailyMailJournos · 25/12/2017 13:11

Wang the oven back on - it will be fine. Lunch might be a bit later than planned but it will be fine. Have a glass of something and try not to stress.

abitoflight · 25/12/2017 13:13

I got a card from DD once that said ‘you’re like a mother to me’
Hmm

Saladtongs · 25/12/2017 13:13

ChristmasAtSquiffanys you can cook your turkey on the bbq. Flash boil your turkey and stick it on the bbq.

abitoflight · 25/12/2017 13:14

Sorry wrong thread Confused

Ellisandra · 25/12/2017 13:15

I love "cook it hard like a bastard"
Grin

FuckingHateHappy · 25/12/2017 13:18

No wait if it was on only 5 mins before the 40min break, I would abondon!
Keep going with espresso and prosecco though ...

Seniorcitizen1 · 25/12/2017 13:33

Eat later - we wont sit down until 3 30 at the earliest, some friends eat a 5

glueandstick · 25/12/2017 13:46

I’m postponing dinner until later. We’re all off for a nap. If three coffees can’t dent the tiredness nothing but sleep will.

Good luck young turkey!god speed in the oven.

SeaToSki · 25/12/2017 13:47

Crank the oven right up for an hour then turn it back down to the regular temp again. Cover turkey with foil while doing this so it doesnt dry out as much. Make sure you adjust your timings for the potatoes and everything else

Crunchymum · 25/12/2017 13:49

My oven has a habit of turning itself off so I'm hanging around it and keeping a regular eye. #likeidonthaveenoughtodo

SilverySurfer · 25/12/2017 14:06

Definitely do as PP have said, but don't forget to regularly top up your glass - du Pap is my favourite red - yum.

Crunchymum · 25/12/2017 15:27

As suspected mine had been off.

It's a piece of fucking shit (less than 3 years old but our of warranty)

Think it's just been off 20 minutes? Although could be longer. FFS, I was being mindful of it as well.
