Who was BU?

Just witnessed an exchange on the train. I was sat opposite a lady who had her backpack on the seat next to her. We were sat at a table seat. A man got on the train and asked if she could move it so he could sit down. Train was busy but there were a handful of other empty seats.

Woman umms and ahhs and says well, I have a lot of stuff in it. Man says please. Woman clearly doesn't want to move her bag and says can't you sit somewhere else. Man then starts to get annoyed and says I have paid for my ticket, you can't take up 2 seats. If you don't move your bag then I will.

Woman huffily moves the bag onto the table and says you could have just sat somewhere else.

Who do you think was BU? I have to admit I do get the rage when people leave their bags on seats but I guess he could have sat elsewhere.

i agree with you

FiveGoMadInDorset · 24/12/2017 11:50

she was

kaytee87 · 24/12/2017 11:50

She was BU, it doesn't sound as if the man was particular rude to her.
If I were him I'd have sat somewhere else but every one is different.

KinkyAfro · 24/12/2017 11:51

She was

SantanicoPandemonium · 24/12/2017 11:51

He wanted to make a point, even if it was more hassle then sitting elsewhere. Technically, he was in the right but sometimes you should just let these things go.

EllaHen · 24/12/2017 11:53

He was in the right but he was a dick about it.

theymademejoin · 24/12/2017 11:55

It depends. If there were other seats available at tables, then he was making a point which is a bit rude. If the other seats weren't at a table then he was perfectly reasonable as many people prefer to sit at a table.

mumoffour1816154 · 24/12/2017 11:56

She was. Maybe he wanted a table seat, and other available seats had no table. She could have put bag on overhead shelves or move herself to use two seats

Bambamber · 24/12/2017 11:57

We're there other table seats? Maybe he specifically wanted a table seat?

Louiselouie0890 · 24/12/2017 11:59

Ella how was he a dick sounds like he asked politely.

She was he might havee wanted a table seat. Doesn't need to have an excuse really seats are for bums not bags

PositivelyPERF · 24/12/2017 12:00

If there was plenty if seats and he hadn't reserved a seat, then he was just being a dick. It would have been very different if he had booked the seat, there were no seats or for some reason he couldn't get to another one.

PositivelyPERF · 24/12/2017 12:01

Of not if. *

BitchQueen90 · 24/12/2017 13:00

Just a small local train so you can't book a specific seat. There were no other table seats but there were about 5 or 6 others free.

She was.

Bag Seaters think they can get more space to themselves by taking up a paid seat. Sometimes it backfires, and they have to accept it when it does.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 24/12/2017 13:03

How was he a dick about it? He asked nicely & she was the one being an arse. If you want a seat for your bag then buy it a ticket.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 24/12/2017 13:03

He doesn’t sound like a dick at all, she does. Why couldn’t her bag go and find another seat?

CurryWorst · 24/12/2017 13:04

She had a bag on the seat. Unless she had bought a ticket for it she was totally BU and he was in the right entirely.

saoirse31 · 24/12/2017 13:06

She was. Tbh I ask people to move bags to let me sit as matter of principle when there's other free seats. Have just done so. No problem

kaldefotter · 24/12/2017 13:08

She was the unreasonable one. There’s no reason for people to put their bags on the seats. For her to suggest that he go elsewhere was cheeky, and he did nothing wrong in insisting on that seat.

kaldefotter · 24/12/2017 13:10

Also, I do the same as saorise31. I’ll ask to sit at a seat with a bag on (especially if it’s a window seat) in preference to taking a seat that nobody’s taken up with a bag.

I had a reserved seat on a mainline train recently. When boarding I was directly behind a woman with a bright pink suitcase.

Said woman decides to place herself in the seat next to mine, and places her massive suitcase in my reserved seat. I then hear her tell her friend that she doesn't even have a reserved seat!

I was so incredulous I refused to give her the satisfaction of asking her to move her case and spent the rest of the 300km journey silently seething.

Ashamedandblamed · 24/12/2017 13:15

If she wants a spare seat next to her whilst traveling she should buy a car.

Cheeky cow, she was defo BU!

Mumof56 · 24/12/2017 13:16

Bag lady was totally unreasonable

Ashamedandblamed · 24/12/2017 13:17

I was so incredulous I refused to give her the satisfaction of asking her to move her case and spent the rest of the 300km journey silently seething.

Wtf. Satisfaction of what ?

This is so pathetic she didn't even know or care yet you spent hours seething and still to this day by the looks of things.

If you had told her to move she probably would have.

Grow some balls or get over it ,bloody hell how pathetic.

user1471439727 · 24/12/2017 13:22

Err.. it was lighthearted, @Ashamedandblamed
