Who was BU?

Just witnessed an exchange on the train. I was sat opposite a lady who had her backpack on the seat next to her. We were sat at a table seat. A man got on the train and asked if she could move it so he could sit down. Train was busy but there were a handful of other empty seats.

Woman umms and ahhs and says well, I have a lot of stuff in it. Man says please. Woman clearly doesn't want to move her bag and says can't you sit somewhere else. Man then starts to get annoyed and says I have paid for my ticket, you can't take up 2 seats. If you don't move your bag then I will.

Woman huffily moves the bag onto the table and says you could have just sat somewhere else.

Who do you think was BU? I have to admit I do get the rage when people leave their bags on seats but I guess he could have sat elsewhere.

User that was so silly-how exactly would you asking her to move the case give her any satisfaction? Confused

SilverySurfer · 24/12/2017 14:35

Of course she wasn't BU, IF she had bought a ticket for her bag. However, the chances of that I would think to be about zero. If I had been the man I would have asked her to move it, if she refused I would have sat on her bag.

Do people really ask others to move their bags just 'out of principle' when there are plenty of other seats available? What is the principle? That putting a bag on a seat indicates such moral bankruptcy that one shouldn't be allowed to 'get away with it' even when it doesn't inconvenience anyone else?

We’re the open seats forward or backward facing? Some people prefer not to travel backwards.

VivaLeBeaver · 24/12/2017 15:53

Problem is on the table seats if there’s someone opposite you there’s not really room to put a bag on the floor by your feet. Because you and the person opposite are nearly playing footsie without everyone adding bags down there.

I’m too short to reach the overhead racks. Which is why I avoid table seats. At least on the normal seats you’ve more chance of squeezing a bag between your feet.

If there were other seats then the man should really have sat elsewhere unless he had a need for a table.

why? her bag didnt have a ticket....

BitchQueen90 · 24/12/2017 16:05

The seats were backward facing so I don't think he had any particular need for that specific seat. He had no luggage.

The woman's backpack wasn't a big one and could have fit in the overhead storage. She ended up putting it on the table.

She was. Table seats are always popular and there are very few. I would have made a point of asking her to move her stuff myself.

BitchQueen90 · 24/12/2017 16:10

If it's of any relevance, the train journey wasn't a long one. The stop he got on at was about a 10 minute journey from the last station where it terminated.

She was. Want a seat for your bag? Buy a seat for your bag.

IloveJudgeJudy · 24/12/2017 16:15

As it was the only table seat then she was BU. Another factor is, was that empty seat the first one he came to?

BitchQueen90 · 24/12/2017 16:19

Yes, the table seat was the first empty one. The other empty ones were a bit further down.
