Universal credit HELP

Posting for traffic (sorry)
Hello my friend is supposed to have received his universal credit payment today. He has been receiving it for a couple of months now so not a new claim. However, he hasn't received it today when he should have - even his account online says it will be in today and still nothing.
What can he do? He is desperate for money and is going to end up in arrears with bills etc as money isn't there. Anyone any suggestions?

Ring them first thing in the morning? Its 8pm things cant go that drastically wrong in the next 12 hours Hmm

Babyroobs · 18/12/2017 19:57

Does he know what amount he should be receiving? I have read on other forums that because a lot of people have been paid early by their employers for Christmas then 2 paydays have fallen within one assessment period therefore reducing their UC to nothing ! Does your friend work ? Could this be the reason why?

babyitscoldoutsideX · 18/12/2017 20:00

Yes he knows what he'll be getting and no isn't working so there is literally no reason why it shouldn't be in! Just think he's scared that it isn't going to get sorted with Christmas being so close and he literally has no food in and no money to go shopping, he's been eating at mine the last week!

Check that he wasn’t actually paid a week or so back. Seriously. N

I think they’ve been paying benefits early in December because of Christmas.

babyitscoldoutsideX · 18/12/2017 20:06

He hasn't, he's had nothing. I think you only get paid early if it lands between the 24th-27th and new year. He'll just have to ring in morning and hopefully be given some answers

Does he need money urgently?

PurplePillowCase · 18/12/2017 20:10

is he paid weekly?
this december is a 5 week month = no universal credit payment if paid weekly.

MrsGrindah · 18/12/2017 20:11

Not being funny but why are you asking us?! Why doesn’t he just contact them? Nobody here can explain

babyitscoldoutsideX · 18/12/2017 20:12

Yes he does. And no monthly.
Sorry thought there might have been people who had been in the situation before, pardon me for asking for abit of help 🙄

MrsGrindah · 18/12/2017 20:22

But all you will get is speculation which is not advisable in these circumstances. He needs to talk to people who have the facts about his personal situation and might be able to ensure he gets paid. It just seemed an odd think for a third party to ask.

MrsGrindah · 18/12/2017 20:23

Thing not think!

usedtogotomars · 18/12/2017 20:23

Can’t you lend him some? You might be best on the money board.

Primamadonna · 18/12/2017 20:38

Are you quite sure he hasn't been paid ? Not doubting your friend's integrity but how are you so sure ?
As you are such a good friend you can look after him for a bit longer, that's what Christmas is all about.

MiltonTheCockroach · 18/12/2017 21:10

What's your AIBU?

Is it "Would I be unreasonable to offer to lend him some money"?

If so, YANBU. He's your friend so it's fine to help him out.

Snowman41 · 18/12/2017 21:13

So he has done nothing all day and now you are asking what he should do, knowing that there is no way of contacting them until tomorrow

Emmageddon · 18/12/2017 21:14

Lend him some money to tide him over, then advise him to phone them tomorrow.

MiltonTheCockroach · 18/12/2017 21:28

He needs to budget a bit better if his money was due in today yet you've been feeding him for the last week.

Hopefully the money (if it is in fact due) will be paid by tomorrow.

I know that payments can be made as late as 8pm on payment day, so hoping your friend received his payment.

Definitely worth a call first thing tomorrow. I know how stressful it can be.

@GlitteryStag I'd gladly take a few grand off your hands Grin

MiltonTheCockroach · 18/12/2017 21:40

Would he qualify for a Crisis Loan/Budgeting Advance?

He'd have to pay it back but would cover him in the short term.

Emmageddon · 18/12/2017 21:42

@GlitteryStag could you pay my credit card bill and buy me a Christmas bottle of Jack Daniels?
Thanks hun x

NachoAddict · 18/12/2017 21:45

Has he checked his bank wasn't overdrawn?

My relative has had the same problem for 5 months... they're meant to get paid on the 19th (earlier if it falls on the weekend). It usually goes in a day later, but UC are useless anyway.

VladmirsPoutine · 18/12/2017 22:00

Only thing for it is to ring first thing. As soon as lines are open because I hear waiting times can be a nightmare.
