CF neighbour thread- snow removal

So, it's been a fairly amusing day today, and DH would like to know if he and 4 of our neighbours are being unreasonable at all.

As you may have guessed by the thread title, we live in an area absolutely covered in snow, and our road has a sharp incline, so not the easiest road to drive out of in this weather.

DH was outside chatting while he cleared the driveway and the front of our drive and section of pavement and laid grit to make sure that we could get DS to hospital if he became unwell due to his chemo.

After a while DH and neighbour 1 were joined by neighbours 2,3 and 4 who in return for help with their driveways helped with Ours and NDN1's driveway, it was quite a nice arrangement, the job was finished within an hour and everyone (neighbours and family members) were invited into ours for coffee and a chat etc.

Low and behold, 15 minutes into our coffee fest, the door bell goes, and stood there is CFNDN (cheeky fucker next door neighbour) demanding to know why we hadn't cleared her driveway and pavement! So as not to drip feed, this woman has a son my age who lives with her but doesn't seem to do much other than sit at home and walk to the shop for whatever alcoholic beverage he fancies that day!

DH says "sorry, but we all pitched in together and if your DS had come to help we would have helped do yours" DH was quickly backed up by NDN's 2 and 3 who also said the same. CFNDN started to play the "but I'm a woman on my own" card, at which point NDN 1 said, "but what about your DS, he can clear your drive for you. She gave a nasty look and roared something about us being bad neighbours and how she would be complaining to her housing officer (bear in mind that 4/5 of us actually own our properties!) so I'm not sure how that's going to work out for her...

So, in short, was DH and NDN being unreasonable to refuse to pander to her and clear her driveway for her and grit it? Or was this my first ever experience of cheeky fuckery?

Nope ..... not U at all. If the son had pitched in to help, then hers would have been done and she would have been round at yours drinking coffee too. In this situation everyone gets out what they are prepared to put in. In her case, that was nothing ......

britnay · 11/12/2017 20:57

Does clearing snow now require a penis?

Chattymummyhere · 11/12/2017 20:58

Brit that’s how’s you shovel it Wink

Chattymummyhere · 11/12/2017 20:59

No op you are nbu. You all picthed in and did those. She and her son didn’t help so tough luck to them.

Tinselistacky · 11/12/2017 21:00

Maybe sneak into her garden tonight and make a huge snowman - give it a carrot penis!

britnay · 11/12/2017 21:01

Shit, I've been doing it wrong all these years!

GoJetterGirl · 11/12/2017 21:02

Brit, she's quite a prim and proper type, not too unlike my MIL, such work is beneath her... at one stage I had NDN's 2&3's kids in with me so their DP's could help too

Has she got no arms?

NoSquirrels · 11/12/2017 21:04

Arf at penis shovelling! I did ours, whilst DH went to the shop with the DC to buy food for the meal he then cooked, and I ate. We’ve been doing it all wrong too!

But no OP, NDN was definitely a CF and someone in her house should have helped shovel snow.

GoJetterGirl · 11/12/2017 21:05

BMW- see previous post...

OP posts:
britnay · 11/12/2017 21:05

Well I vote for Tinsel's idea, you'll have plenty of snow to use from all that shoveling.

GoJetterGirl · 11/12/2017 21:07

I may go out and make a giant snow penis as homage to her outdated belief that only men should shovel snow 😂

You have indeed got yourself a CFN. You may need Gin.

GoJetterGirl · 11/12/2017 21:11

Thanks Evil, but alas, the only reason I was designated child care instead of being outside helping was due to being pregnant.

I'm getting quite amused trying to imagine the chat she's going to have with the housing officer tomorrow

ItsNachoCheese · 11/12/2017 21:15

Your dh and fellow NNDN's (Nice Next Door Neighbours) are not unreasonable at all

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 11/12/2017 21:18

Then you need Cake.

Pinkpowerofthought · 11/12/2017 21:21

She went to your door to complain that you didn't clear her driveway. She is able bodied and has a grown up son who just sat and watched everyone else and then caused an uproar because hers wasn't touched.
What an arsehole.
Oh excuse me mr housing officer I'm phoning to complain because my neighbours didn't clear my driveway and they cleared up their own and chipped away at the other neighbours....the housing officer is sure to be paying you a visit tomorrow to give you a slapped wrist.

Ikanon · 11/12/2017 21:22

I'm the snow shoveller in our house. DH did it yesterday and spread the salt with his gloves and wrecked his gloves. Normal service will resume by me next snow fall.

Clearly CFNDN

Maelstrop · 11/12/2017 21:25

Massive cheeky fucker! We cleared shared access drive with our neighbour yesterday. We normally clear old lady next doors drive, but her very muscly son moved back in with her recently, so we didn't, plus she rarely leaves the house these days.

Fanciedachange17 · 11/12/2017 21:28

Brilliant! I helped my 83 year old neighbour clear his drive and then he made me and his wife a coffee afterwards.

mummmy2017 · 11/12/2017 21:29

So proud of your posse who cleared the snow, and bet her DS is getting it in the neck for being a lazy sod....

GoJetterGirl · 11/12/2017 21:29

the housing officer is sure to be paying you a visit tomorrow to give you a slapped wrist.

Oh no he won't, we own, it's actually just as well that there was kids in the house otherwise I'd have told her where she could go... won't hesitate to next time

WishingOnABar · 11/12/2017 21:31

It’s probably a good thing your dh didnt help her op, she sounds like one of those neighbours who slowly creep up on you with friendly requests until you are eventually taking her to the supermarket at 2 scheduled times a week, forced to listen to classic fm on the way, and being called round at 11pm to help change her lightbulb.
Yes, I speak from experience Angry

GoJetterGirl · 11/12/2017 21:31

I really do hope she went back home and gave her DS hell, lazy bastard.

NNDN have been great since we moved into the area and have been super welcoming, glad to have neighbours like them :)

We have a petrol powered Honda snowblower that I am perfectly capable of starting and operating if DH isn't about.

CF indeed.
