CF neighbour thread- snow removal

GoJetterGirl · 11/12/2017 20:44

So, it's been a fairly amusing day today, and DH would like to know if he and 4 of our neighbours are being unreasonable at all.

As you may have guessed by the thread title, we live in an area absolutely covered in snow, and our road has a sharp incline, so not the easiest road to drive out of in this weather.

DH was outside chatting while he cleared the driveway and the front of our drive and section of pavement and laid grit to make sure that we could get DS to hospital if he became unwell due to his chemo.

After a while DH and neighbour 1 were joined by neighbours 2,3 and 4 who in return for help with their driveways helped with Ours and NDN1's driveway, it was quite a nice arrangement, the job was finished within an hour and everyone (neighbours and family members) were invited into ours for coffee and a chat etc.

Low and behold, 15 minutes into our coffee fest, the door bell goes, and stood there is CFNDN (cheeky fucker next door neighbour) demanding to know why we hadn't cleared her driveway and pavement! So as not to drip feed, this woman has a son my age who lives with her but doesn't seem to do much other than sit at home and walk to the shop for whatever alcoholic beverage he fancies that day!

DH says "sorry, but we all pitched in together and if your DS had come to help we would have helped do yours" DH was quickly backed up by NDN's 2 and 3 who also said the same. CFNDN started to play the "but I'm a woman on my own" card, at which point NDN 1 said, "but what about your DS, he can clear your drive for you. She gave a nasty look and roared something about us being bad neighbours and how she would be complaining to her housing officer (bear in mind that 4/5 of us actually own our properties!) so I'm not sure how that's going to work out for her...

So, in short, was DH and NDN being unreasonable to refuse to pander to her and clear her driveway for her and grit it? Or was this my first ever experience of cheeky fuckery?

So you’re pregnant and have a kid undergoing chemo and she came round and shouted at you?

Classy.

SweetIcedTea · 11/12/2017 21:34

All females in this house and our drive is cleared and gritted, as is the road outside, no penis was required.

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 11/12/2017 21:35

That's truly amazing! Xmas Grin

butterfly56 · 11/12/2017 21:36

Definitely a CFN and a self centred PITA aswell..and YANBU!
You sound like great neighbours all muckin in together!
Used to love mucking in with my neighbours but there was always one who was a CFN or a grumpy bar steward/ess!! Grin

Two thoughts come to mind.

  1. CFNDN got out of bed on the wrong side and
  2. Her lazy-arsed son did NOT get out of bed
Grin
MrsCrabbyTree · 11/12/2017 21:39

Whoops..... neither of these are your problem, or other neighbours problem either.

ohfourfoxache · 11/12/2017 21:39

Nasty cow Shock

How is DS feeling Jetter?

NewStartAgainReallyThisTime · 11/12/2017 21:41

I hate the snow being cleared.

Snow = not slippery.

Cleared path.= slippery black ice of doom

SoNouveau · 11/12/2017 21:49

I so thought CFNDN was cunt face.
Sorry. Blush

NightRaven52 · 11/12/2017 21:51

While it might have been a nice gesture to have offered to do it, your DH and other neighbours are under no obligation to do so. Her expectation of it to be done is massive CF and entitled behaviour.

Also another vote here for giant snow penis to be erected (Grin) on her driveway or front lawn overnight

AnathemaPulsifer · 11/12/2017 21:54

I'm a woman on my own. I clear my own damn snow, though not the path as there I agree with NewStart that it's more slippery.

BackforGood · 11/12/2017 21:56

Am I the only one wondering how you can have 4 NDNs? Grin

Of course there was no reason why your dh, you, or any of the other neighbours should have cleared her driveway.
Despite "only" being a woman myself and not a young one at that I managed to clear my own driveway today, and also the pavement and also my neighbour's. I am at a loss as to why neither she, nor her grown ds could not have done their own, or chipped in with the 'working party'.

BMW6 · 11/12/2017 21:59

Ah, cross posted with you OP.

Well, as snow shovelling is beneath her she'll just have to put up with being beneath the snow..........

SweetIcedTea · 11/12/2017 22:02

NewStartAgainReallyThisTime It's not slippery if you clear the snow and then grit the footpath/drive/road, most people have to drive across the footpath to get their car off the drive so it has to be cleared.

HateIsNotGood · 11/12/2017 22:04

I suppose if your DH and your NBs cleared everywhere but obviously not her part it would send her a 'fuck you' message.

Were you out there with your DH clearing snow and happily chatting (gossiping) deciding to not clear your neighbour's snow? No you are pregnant so you weren't.

She and/or her DS might or might not be CFs, but she must feel like one now, even if she isn't a CF (if you even know).

dameglittersparkles · 11/12/2017 22:55

Holy shit OP you really do know some absolute cunts don't you!
This cheeky rude fucker needs to fuck the fuck off to where your PIL need to go as well 😡

Maelstrop · 11/12/2017 23:01

I hate the snow being cleared. Snow = not slippery. Cleared path.= slippery black ice of doom

Which is why you then put down grit. Confused

NewStartAgainReallyThisTime · 11/12/2017 23:24

You don't need to put down grit snow Confused (plus salt run off is bad for the environment Confused Wink

NewStartAgainReallyThisTime · 11/12/2017 23:24

Grit with snow (Confused)

NewStartAgainReallyThisTime · 11/12/2017 23:29

for example

MissConductUS · 11/12/2017 23:31

When there's an icy coating on the driveway that can't be cleared manually we put down calcium chloride at a low application rate. Winters tend to be more severe where I am than in the UK.

justilou1 · 11/12/2017 23:40

You should have given her TIL's number and told her to complain to them. They would have had a lovely chat.

BackforGood · 11/12/2017 23:49

NewStart On the day it falls, snow isn't too slippery, I'll agree, but then people walk on it. It gets compacted, and a bit slippery. Then it gets a bit slushy and wet as it melts a bit, which is slippery, and then that water on the top freezes again and it becomes treacherous. The pavement outside my house - which was beautiful in the fresh show when I went out early Sunday morning - was akin to a skating rink by late afternoon when the temperatures dropped today. My bit of pavement is not treacherous as I cleared the snow (when it was fresh and light to lift), then put some salty grit down. Unfortunately, everyone then will have to slide down the next bit where it is now sheet ice on top of the compacted snow.

BeALert · 12/12/2017 01:00

Hang on...

You mean as a woman I don't have to shovel snow?

WHY DID NO ONE EVER TELL ME THIS?!
