Where to go on next date? (Bet results at stake!)

Picture the scene: you're seeing someone. The next day after seeing them, you've got a big and challenging event coming up. They say you won't make the event. You say you will (you like a challenge).

So you make a bet with them: if you do manage to make it to the event, you choose the next date. If you don't make it to the event, they choose the next date.

So any ideas? Where to go for next date? (London-based).

Asking for a friend Wink

Why do they say you won't make the event the next day?

Isn't that a strange and slightly dickish thing to say?

LoopyLou1981 · 11/12/2017 19:17

Is the loser also paying for your choice of date? 😉

StuffAndNonsenseYes · 11/12/2017 19:20

I always enjoy museum dates, YMMV.

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 11/12/2017 19:22

Because they stayed out until 5 and the event the next day started at 9! 😂 I should've put light hearted in the title 😂

Loopy ooh that could be an option - I'm not sure! :)

Any ideas? :)

It's obviously a laugh between two people who have just started seeing each other. I don't think it needs an analysis.

hahahaIdontgetit · 11/12/2017 19:26

Ice skating?

ShirleyPhallus · 11/12/2017 19:26

Ice skating at Somerset house then head to flat iron for steak and red wine

LoopyLou1981 · 11/12/2017 19:29

I’d go for a nice restaurant with cocktails afterwards.
Duck & Waffle or City Social are lovely!
I definitely think it should be his treat if he’s lost the bet! 😉 x

LoopyLou1981 · 11/12/2017 19:30

@shirleyphallus Mmmm...Flat Iron 😋

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 11/12/2017 19:31

This whole thread could have been reduced to:
London suggestions for a date please.

SavageBeauty73 · 11/12/2017 19:57

Google those igloo pods on Thames. That looks the most romantic place to have a date.

SavageBeauty73 · 11/12/2017 19:57

Maidofstars - I like the background. It amused me

ShirleyPhallus · 11/12/2017 20:03

I enjoyed the background too!

Other ideas:
Comedy at comedy store following Chinese feast in china town
Drinks at one of the high rise bars
Indian at brick lane and drinks in the pubs after
Cinema at aldgate cinema (the fancy one) with dinner at the pizza union first
BFI for Independant cinema and drinks at the bar after
Bounce in Holborn for ping pong and drinks
Swingers under the gherkin for crazy golf then to that bar beginning with A (not the anthologist, the other one similar?) for cocktails

Ok I’m out!

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 11/12/2017 20:19

Wow thanks everyone - these ideas are all amazing!! Please do keep them coming :)

Junkyard Golf in Shoreditch? It's an indoors, grown-up (quite hipster-esque) mini golf place. With booze.

Staying out til 5am before an important work thing is a dick move.

Gloating to a new bf or gf that you are so exciting / the dates or sex is so good that you can encourage them to miss work on the day of an important thing is twattish.

Meh. Loads of people have a nightmare night with their crying baby and go to work. I’m sure OP could cope with lack of sleep for one day.

Oh come on Hmm

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 11/12/2017 20:40

Sorry to disappoint, folks, but it wasn't a work thing the next day! I'm too much of a goody two shoes to stay out late on a work night Xmas Wink

OP posts:
WellAlwaysHaveParis · 11/12/2017 22:15

So what's the consensus?

  • Active thing then restaurant/drinks?
  • Cinema then restaurant/drinks?

I'm undecided :/ not sure if he's up for ice skating, but I wouldn't say no. I just need to brush up on my skills first!

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 11/12/2017 23:26

Just bumping this to get some opinions on active date vs chilled foodie date Wink I'd love to go ice skating, but I'm like bloody Bambi on the ice. I can't really skate, I just stomp everywhere, trying not to fall down Xmas Blush

Skating is cliched and cold and not fun unless you can actually skate.

It all seems like a lot of energy and effort for a new relationship: why not just do the usual things a city has to offer, bar, restaurant, film?
