Reading - Love of reading

SueWickstead · 09/12/2017 17:54

I love to see children looking at a book and to hear them read.
There are so many children who don't appreciate a good book so whatever we can do to promote a love of reading has to be a good thing.
I was recently invited as and author to share my books with a local school at a nearby library.
The children came along (they enjoyed the walk to the library!) and I was able to tell them about the real story as well as read my first book.
They were then given a chance to buy a signed copy of a book and to undertake some follow up work. But most of all they had the opportunity to browse through and enjoy the chance to read a wide variety of books that are on offer in the library.(Free)
During the time a pre-school child came with his parent and went away armed with ten books to share at home.
It was fantastic to see the children absorbed in books, given the space and time to enjoy and they loved meeting an author (I suppose that was me!)
A library is a great place to find a good book for free.
Many schools have their reading groups named after authors (relevent) but they are always the same!
:- Dahl; Donaldson; Rowling; Walliams; Wilson.
It made me wonder,
who would your 5 be?
A question from a Year 1 class.
"Is your book in the book shops?"
"No"
"Why?"
"Unfortunately there are so many good authors with lots and lots of books Such as thos by Julia donaldson that there is no room for mine!"
But at least I can tell them there is a copy of my book in their school somewhere.
Would love for my books to actually get in a few more schools.
would love to take them in too.... but for now

Yeah nice advertising love Grin

Are we all supposed to PM you and ask where we can buy it?

CandleWithHair · 09/12/2017 17:59

Reading is OK but I prefer Guildford

CaoNiMa · 09/12/2017 18:02

Cringe.

fleshmarketclose · 09/12/2017 18:10

Did you get someone to proofread? Just if the book is anything like your OP I can't imagine it will be a bestseller Confused

MagicMoneyTree · 09/12/2017 18:11

Bet Julia Donaldson doesn’t leave typos like that in her work. I bet she also starts her last name with a capital D. If you’re going to claim to be an author, at least try to be a half-decent one.

You sound bitter/ jealous.

LockedOutOfMN · 09/12/2017 18:13

I didn't love reading the OP.

However, most of the time, I do love reading.

WorraLiberty · 09/12/2017 18:16

I was bored so I counted the amount of times 'book' and 'books' are written in the OP Blush

Rather repetitious to say the least.

TovaGoldCoin · 09/12/2017 18:24

Good lord Sue, proofread! I'm a teacher too, as your website says you are, and I'd would have sent my students away to check their work if I found daft errors in their work like yours. I'm afraid your books won't compete with Julia Donaldson, as they are rather specialised. I don't like David Walliams, but he does grab unengaged readers, who I can then move on to better writers.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/12/2017 18:31

AIBU to think you shouldn’t join a forum just to publicise your books? Even if you are badly attempting to disguise it as a discussion on children’s reading.

MargaretCavendish · 09/12/2017 18:35

Grin

That reminded me of the time when we were teenagers that my friends' mum emailed his American aunt and said we were all going to the Reading festival and said aunt said how wonderful it was that a bunch of 17 year olds wanted to spend their holiday at a literary festival!

BrizzleDrizzle · 09/12/2017 18:38

It's great to see children enjoying reading, yes. I love taking my children to bookshops to browse for good quality books that have a much deserved space on the shelves.

ScreamingValenta · 09/12/2017 18:40

Are you Pippa Middleton Grin?

wildbluebelles · 09/12/2017 18:40

You're an author?? Really? Please tell me your books are more coherent than that OP.

chickenowner · 09/12/2017 18:50

The writing on your website is appalling, with a large number of grammatical errors, capital letters in the wrong places and missing punctuation. Some of it just doesn't make sense.

You've actually made me think that I should have a go at writing a book if writing of your standard actually gets published!

Or are you self published?

lookingforthecorkscrew · 09/12/2017 19:18

Gawd bless you Sue. I’m not buying any of your books though.

Gilead · 09/12/2017 19:47

Goodness me, I hope your writing is better than it is on here. You're punctuation and grammar are abominable. Exclamation marks, semi colons, lack of full stops, use of brackets, you're advert is littered; not in a good way. Good grief!

RidingWindhorses · 09/12/2017 19:59

Do you have Lionel Richie and the Wardrobe?

makeourfuture · 09/12/2017 20:00

I attempted writing a book once. Admiration to anyone who finished one!

metalmum15 · 09/12/2017 20:07

OP have you posted on here accidentally instead of your website?

In fairness Amazon seems to have some very good reviews of the books, however people come on here for a chat or advice, not to be feeling like someone is trying to 'sell' them something or inform them how libraries work.

CheshireChat · 09/12/2017 20:15

I'm just curious if MNHQ will delete the OP I'm afraid.

SueWickstead · 09/12/2017 22:23

No!

CheshireChat · 09/12/2017 22:30

Actually I know they've taken posts down before because it sounded like an ad which is what I meant.

I think most people missed the fact you asked for their top 5 authors, but honestly when naming reading groups you'll either get very well known authors such as the ones you named or the kids can choose and then it might be more random.

And honestly, MN isn't really the place to come and say how fab libraries are as most of us know and take our kids there.

SueWickstead · 09/12/2017 22:35

Goodness me!
This was supposed to be just a question.
I wondered what others thought but now I understand.
The replies seem very harsh, but oh well,
Yes, I should have taken more care when posting any comment in the first place so fair enough. It was a long day.

your book isn't in the shops because it's not very good - hth

publishers would piblish if it warrented it - we have plenty of books not by the authors you mentioned
