Reading - Love of reading

I love to see children looking at a book and to hear them read.
There are so many children who don't appreciate a good book so whatever we can do to promote a love of reading has to be a good thing.
I was recently invited as and author to share my books with a local school at a nearby library.
The children came along (they enjoyed the walk to the library!) and I was able to tell them about the real story as well as read my first book.
They were then given a chance to buy a signed copy of a book and to undertake some follow up work. But most of all they had the opportunity to browse through and enjoy the chance to read a wide variety of books that are on offer in the library.(Free)
During the time a pre-school child came with his parent and went away armed with ten books to share at home.
It was fantastic to see the children absorbed in books, given the space and time to enjoy and they loved meeting an author (I suppose that was me!)
A library is a great place to find a good book for free.
Many schools have their reading groups named after authors (relevent) but they are always the same!
:- Dahl; Donaldson; Rowling; Walliams; Wilson.
It made me wonder,
who would your 5 be?
A question from a Year 1 class.
"Is your book in the book shops?"
"No"
"Why?"
"Unfortunately there are so many good authors with lots and lots of books Such as thos by Julia donaldson that there is no room for mine!"
But at least I can tell them there is a copy of my book in their school somewhere.
Would love for my books to actually get in a few more schools.
would love to take them in too.... but for now

publish - fat fingers!

KeepServingTheDrinks · 09/12/2017 22:52

oh dear. Blatant self advertising is rather frowned on OP, but good luck with your work

SueWickstead · 09/12/2017 23:13

Indeed.
Maybe each class would have their own favoutire five authors.
Different year groups would have a favourite too.
Sometimes the author choice might be dependent on who the teacher likes.
Just a thought.
It is just a shame to just choose five!

Well this was both weird and pointless.

Julie8008 · 09/12/2017 23:19

I find it really offensive when authors find ways to emotionally blackmail us into buying their books for our children. I refuse to feed that nonsense.

SparkleFizz · 09/12/2017 23:30

You’ve forgotten to tell us what your book’s called Wink

Best of luck with your writing career.

As for reading group names - I’ve never given it much thought, but I’d have guessed that the names are picked by the teacher, and heavily influenced by which authors the teacher likes and which authors are currently popular.

CheshireChat · 10/12/2017 01:08

I'm now confused why you posted in the first place Confused.

Wish you best of luck regardless.

Battleax · 10/12/2017 01:12

🙅🛋📕

Geordiegirl79 · 10/12/2017 01:18

Tova: ...and I'd would have sent my students away to check their work...

This did make me giggle. I think if you are criticising someone for not proofreading, you must really check your own writing very carefully!

On another note, I didn't really understand the OP at all.

plus3 · 10/12/2017 01:18

How bizarre....

JonnaSilvie · 10/12/2017 01:53

Oh dear, OP. The post does sound mostly like an ad, and if you really wanted to discuss the names of children's reading groups, the question was much too buried in the rest of your ramblings.

Why are you on the Mumsnet "Am i Being Unreasonable" section, and not on Goodreads?

LyannaStarktheWolfMaid · 10/12/2017 02:04

I feel there was a vaguely sensible question somewhere in there, and my answer is ASOIAF, Les Miserables, A Tale of Two Cities, Lord of the Rings and His Dark Materials.

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 10/12/2017 02:23

Aw, Sue, take yourself over to the Chat board. AIBU is full of jerks. Like Julie. Authors are emotionally blackmailing you to read to your children? Now I’ve heard it all. 😂
