My DH bought a Bakewell tart the other day. Ok. Fine so far.
Disgusting git bought custard to go on top.
He's wrong and foul isn't he?
If it helps swing it my way he says the opinion of MN doesn't count.
He may not live to see Monday! Grin

Oh but custard makes everything nicer. Yabu.

Ginosaji · 12/11/2017 17:40

LTB

ComingUpTrumps · 12/11/2017 17:42

Argh LTB. Custard = Envy

Ginosaji · 12/11/2017 17:42

I love custard, but on a bakewell tart??? No way!

FadedRed · 12/11/2017 17:42

No, custard is fine, so is cream or ice cream or any combination of all three. What's not to like?

rogueantimatter · 12/11/2017 17:43

What sort of a monster could do this?

Leeds2 · 12/11/2017 17:43

We used to have slices of hot bakewell tart made in huge metal trays for school dinners. That was served with custard, and it was lovely.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 12/11/2017 17:43

No.

No fucking icing either. Flakes almonds only.

Fontella · 12/11/2017 17:44

When I was at school back in the day, we used to have Bakewell tart with this white almond flavoured custard and it was absolutely gorgeous.

I've always said I'm going to try making it but never have. This thread may be the boot up the arse I need to give it a go.

Dahlietta · 12/11/2017 17:46

Proper Bakewell tart is good with custard. Those silly little things with icing on top do not work so well.

PurplePillowCase · 12/11/2017 17:46

yanbu
bakewell tarts are perfect and sweet enough as they are.
custard is for sour fruity things.

Wolfiefan · 12/11/2017 17:47

It's a silly one with icing!
Custard is for steamed sponge.

Proper bakewell pudding, yes custard. Shop bought icing ones... No custard!

Plainlycrackers · 12/11/2017 17:48

Hot Bakewell tart with custard is yum... but icing on top is no good for this.

rogueantimatter · 12/11/2017 17:48

Icing and custard [ shock]

Horrific.

Crumbs1 · 12/11/2017 17:50

Of course Bakewell tart has custard. Unless they’re Mr Kipling or something equally unlike a Bakewell tart.

Ttbb · 12/11/2017 17:50

Oh dear, did the poor man go to boarding school? My husband is constantly slathering everything with random condiments (custard being the pudding equivalent of a condiment). I've tried explain to him how rude it is to put ketchup or chutney or whatever it is all over your food but he just won't listen.

HashtagTired · 12/11/2017 17:53

That’s all kind of wrong.

Custard on BW tart. No.
Hot custard on cold BW. No.
Hot custard on hot BW tart. No.

Just no.

lidoshuffle · 12/11/2017 17:55

I’ve never had custard on a Bakewell tart. I love custard though and would defo try it.

juddyrockingcloggs · 12/11/2017 17:59

Bakewell Tart is horrific. Custard would make it bearable. Just.

IhaveapenIhavepineapple · 12/11/2017 18:00

Shock LTB!

Glumglowworm · 12/11/2017 18:03

Bakewell tart with icing = no custard

Bakewell tart without icing = custard

BikeRunSki · 12/11/2017 18:04

What you really want is a Bakewell Pudding. Then custard.

Mr Kipling type Bakewell Tart - maybe Cream?
