Deliveries should be in plain boxes

AIBU to think that deliveries (especially coming up to Christmas) should be in plain or at least just marked with the shop name.....NOT the actual content ??!!!

Spent £200 on ds main Christmas present (and couldnt choose a specific enough delivery slot time wise only a day, so it turned up whej he was there). All over the side of the box it said what it was !!!!
I had to take my cardigan off in about two seconds and throw it over it then shout to him to go and get something I didn’t really need so I could run and hide it but it very nearly ruined it completely

It’s not just Christmas I suppose it could happen with birthdays so at any time of year it’s not ideal to have the parcel content so obvious ?

Well, if LoveHoney can manage it I'm sure other retailers can...

Amazon usually warns you though if it’s going to be in a marked box.

I ordered a record player for my DH last Christmas from Amazon and expected it to arrive in the usual brown amazon box...nope! No outer packaging at all, just the record player box. And guess who opened the door to the postman? Yup DH! I was furious! I’d spent ages thinking of the perfect Christmas gift as a surprise and amazon went and ruined it!

I’ve never had a problem with amazon....today’s delivery was toys r us. Every single side of the parcel had the content printed on it I couldn’t believe it

Can't you get it delivered elsewhere? Friend, work ect. If Amazon, they have their lockers for easy delivery. I agree a plain box is a good idea, even if you pay a little extra.

I ordered a load of toys from the early learning centre and it came in a mothercare box (who obviously own them now) saying 'mothercare welcome to the club'

Neighbour took delivery in for me and assumed I was pregnant again.

Tesco click and collect did this for a while. They stopped bagging items and just handed them over with massive stickers on them. Ruined several lego boxes one year.

I'm pissed off my gift subscription to Good Housekeeping has been ruined as they sent the promo chocolates last week so obviously had to explain the chocolates. Eejits.

I ordered a couple of bits for DP's birthday from a football club. Plain packing bag, great, but a bloody huge postage label with the club badge on.

I ordered a doll for Dd1’s birthday. I came just in the outer box with no brown box around it, just a delivery label stuck to the top. Unfortunately my lovely but dippy neighbour took it in for me, this I do appreciate. I don’t appreciate the fact that she’d written down the side of the box in Hugh permanent marker letters ‘from blah and blah next door xxx’ so now when DD1 unwraps it, it has that on it which will make her think they bought it I know she meant she’d taken it in for us but WTF?

If your DS is old enough to a) read the box contents, b) know you can afford £200, it is a safe bet to say he knows you've bought it or will buy it if he has asked for it.

Dont underestimate children. I dont remember a single Christmas where I hadnt figured out some way or another exactly what I was getting.

LoveHoney not always so discreet... I discovered my partner had ordered something when a parcel arrived and I was nosing as it was near my birthday! Near the delivery scanning barcode it clearly said 'love honey' or similar. I googled and got a suprise! Even more surprised as I never found out what was inside

Yanbu my ds got me a brilliant surprise Christmas present last year.
Well it would have been if amazon had wrapped it..

He thinks he won’t get it, put it on his list but said he wasn’t expecting it....he’s had a tough year so I want it to be a massive surprise and it nearly wasn’t !!!!!!

I've had "things" delivered in jiffy bags that made it very clear what the item was, and something else delivered in one of those parcels that aren't fully sealed at the sides. Leery grins from the postmen each time...

Disney store is a bugger for this. It's literally plastered all over the box with a bloody great Mickey Mouse on the side

My mum had to give my sister one of her gifts Early because it was delivered when she was at home 🙈

Amazing do warn you on the item page and give you the option to have it boxed.

I guess the problem is that there is pressure to reduce packaging and boxing somethingthat is already boxed is very wasteful.

It wasn’t the item box itself that was inside a brown cardboard box which also had the content on the side so no less packaging ! Really don’t understand it!

All the posties know who does the delivery for lovehoney and another one that says they do a discreet option (possibly Ann Summers?) anyway so the only way to avoid embarrassment is to just experience it the old fashioned way and go to the shop!
