Deliveries should be in plain boxes

AIBU to think that deliveries (especially coming up to Christmas) should be in plain or at least just marked with the shop name.....NOT the actual content ??!!!

Spent £200 on ds main Christmas present (and couldnt choose a specific enough delivery slot time wise only a day, so it turned up whej he was there). All over the side of the box it said what it was !!!!
I had to take my cardigan off in about two seconds and throw it over it then shout to him to go and get something I didn’t really need so I could run and hide it but it very nearly ruined it completely

It’s not just Christmas I suppose it could happen with birthdays so at any time of year it’s not ideal to have the parcel content so obvious ?

Putting a box in a box and then putting something identifying on the outside makes no sense 😂

Well, unless the product box is a flimsy one and the outer one a packing box the manufacturer put it in at the factory I guess.

Over600Ecalypts · 10/11/2017 23:03

There needs to be enough info on the outer box that the delivery driver knows not to throw it over a 6ft gate and onto a concrete path when it contains something that would break.

BastardingNarcissism · 10/11/2017 23:03

I know.....the product box was sturdy it had just been put inside another box with a lot of that plastic bag type wrap stuff. I’m wondering if the outer box was the packaging for a few of the same item that they’d then used as the box to send it out in (as there was a lot of packaging inside too🙄) and that’s why it had the item in that box as well
Luckily ds didn’t see bit it was v v close

I doubt the delivery driver would have known what it meant unless he has a dc of a similar age (I’d never heard of the toy before ds started asking for it!)

What toy is it? Yes, I'm being nosey.

DS's toy kitchen was delivered today and it had no extra packaging. Very glad DP was at home still so he could sneak it upstairs whilst I stood watch.

At least, that makes sense from an environmental point of view

All of our wedding presents came in the normal packaging. Except for the first one. That my husband proceeded to open without me and gleefully told me about on Skype. (I was in the US waiting for my visa to arrive.) When I started bawling, he realized he made a huge mistake and promised not to do that again. But EVERYTHING else wasn't packaged in a hidden way at all. It was a huge bummer not to have any fun opening wedding presents. I'm still bitter towards Amazon about this years later.

I had this last week when the kids were off and ds was home. Massive box arrived from Boots with Lego plastered all over it. Not only that but also a big sticker detailing exactly which set it was. They must have picked it from the warehouse and slapped a delivery label on it.

whyioughtta · 10/11/2017 23:39

Had same problem a few years ago when bought DP (thankfully an adult not children's present!) a new mountain bike for his birthday. He works from home so no way to have it delivered when he's not home. No warning about the box etc but not only did it say mountain bike on the box but the model, make & price! As I said, was just pleased this wasn't a child's gift as would've totally ruined the surprise

keepingbees · 10/11/2017 23:39

I ordered some Christmas presents from Disney store. It came in a massive box with Mickey Mouse on it. DD spotted it and is still hassling me over what’s in ‘the Micky mouse box’ and can she have it to play with!

MinorRSole · 11/11/2017 00:31

googled and got a suprise! Even more surprised as I never found out what was inside

Why didn’t you find out?

IncyWincyGrownUp · 11/11/2017 03:54

DonkeyPunch if the box is shiny you can take off the permanent marker with some acetone/nail varnish remover and a cloth.

Peachyking000 · 11/11/2017 06:18

YANBU. A couple of times this has happened when I’ve ordered stuff from Amazon, though it was their third party sellers. I remember a huge box of Lego I’d bought as a Santa present for DS just came as itself with a delivery sticker, it had also bewn damaged in transit.

DonkeyPunch88 · 11/11/2017 07:44

incywincygrownup thank you! I’ll try that

NeurodiverseNancy · 11/11/2017 11:32

Lovehoney packages have "LH Trading Ltd" on them, so discreet to a point...

buzzbuzzbumblebee · 17/11/2017 12:05

DH asked for some headphones for his birthday which is just before Christmas. The ones he wanted were £30, but I noticed the newer ones were only £50 so got them instead.

They arrived yesterday, in torn tissue paper! You could clearly see what it was but luckily he had just left for work so didn’t see them!

DS is off school with impetigo today and his bike is arriving today so I just have to hope I can hide it before he sees it!
We have a front porch so thinking I can keep it in there until he disappears upstairs and I can shove it in the big downstairs cupboard!

TathitiPete · 17/11/2017 16:45

Wonder what I'm getting for my birthday Grin
