To be really pissed off at this woman?

Was in a local bar with my partner when this woman came over and started talking to us. Nothing wrong with that - it's the sort of place where people do just get into conversation with strangers.

However, after a while I started to get the impression that she was a bit of a Nosey Norah and started to put my guard up. Partner, however, is a big soft labrador to my snappy little terrier and carried on chatting. He was just explaining to her how we'd recently moved into the town centre from the outskirts because of his sight problems - he's not far off being legally blind (not legally blonde, that's a different thing altogether) - when she said something like "You know, this might seem a bit insensitive but sometimes at the end of the day I feel like I've seen too many things and I just want a bit of a break from it".

This happened nearly a week ago and I still wish I'd told her to fuck the fuck right off to fuckville and sit in the fucking dark. Am I being unreasonable?

Was she drunk?

So, she was implying that having sight problems was a blessing? She can sit in the dark in a puddle of cold got urine if so.

Not drunk - this was the beginning of the evening.

I'm not sure if she thought she was being nice.

Perhaps she is one of those people that puts her mouth into action before her brain. Not a good thing to do, but just maybe she didn't intend to be a twat?

My DD once said that a family member was lucky to be in a wheelchair (MS) because DD wished she didn't have to walk everywhere. Easier to forgive a 5 year old that the inconsiderate numpty you encountered.

My friend had a man say to her once she was lucky her son was severely disabled as she got a free parking ticket! She offered to swap his multiple disabilities/medical conditions with him...he shut up then.

Maybe her dp should have said, "Yes its fabulous going blind, for the rare occaisions I didnt want to see something in the past, I can now count my lucky stars I dont have to anymore"

Stupid person can go sit in the dark with her eyes shut whenever she wants to , ops oh hasnt got a choice in the matter, making light of it is crass and she needs to put her brain in gear before she opens her stupid mouth.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. He could have said 'I hope it doesn't seem insensitive, but there are times when I wish I was deaf as well'.

YANBU, that was a horrible thing to say. I think she was just thoughtless and insensitive though, and didn't mean to be nasty.

I bet she either thinks it’s all gods plan or thinks there’s gold at the end of the rainbow.
It’s a special mind that can imagine the benefit of sensitive touch and excellent ear for music when I say ds has very little functional vision.
It’s so insensitive and hard not to be affected. Now its your job to sink her looks every time you see her, and your Labrador will be none the wiser (joke, honestly I understand)

Yeah, being able to see can be such a bind sometimes. You're right, you were totally unreasonable not to have metaphorically lamped her one at the time.

Hopefully she's still cringing at her foot in mouth moment and it is waking her up at night.

This is OT but quite often when I took DD out in her pushchair, people making small talk would comment, "I wish they made those for adults!" I would then have to remind them that they do, they're called wheelchairs.
