Questionable pub roast dinner

I may be being unreasonable here so please do say?

I went to a pub for a roast this afternoon. It wasn't a good meal. It just didn't taste of anything other than gravy. (It was also missing the Yorkshire pudding and parsnip as promised on the menu)

My AIBU is, the menu said 'seasonal green vegetables'. But all I was given was huge helping of lettuce and a few half carrots.

Am I being greedy to think lettuce isn't particularly seasonal, and expected another vegetable at least?

I'm happy to be told I'm being unreasonable. I was just a bit Confused at the huge pile of lettuce

ClashCityRocker · 05/11/2017 15:48

Lettuce? On a roast dinner?!

snackarella · 05/11/2017 15:48

Maybe kale? Or spring greens?

WhooooAmI24601 · 05/11/2017 15:48

Lettuce? On a Sunday roast? What is happening to the world?

FannyWisdom · 05/11/2017 15:48

Sure it wasn't cabbage?

Anyway yanbu no yorkies would be my line.

AuntLydia · 05/11/2017 15:48

Lettuce?!! Lettuce with a roast?!

Grilledaubergines · 05/11/2017 15:48

Cooked lettuce? No way!

Creambun2 · 05/11/2017 15:48

Depends on the place - high end gastro place then YANBU, if harvester or similar what do you expect?

allegretto · 05/11/2017 15:48

Was the lettuce cooked?

LovingLola · 05/11/2017 15:48

Am gagging at the thought of a mound of lettuce with gravy....
Did you not say something when that was put in front of you???

HarrietKettleWasHere · 05/11/2017 15:48

Lettuce?!!!

Did you say anything? Eating out is expensive. I won't put up with something substandard, and a roast is easy to get right.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 05/11/2017 15:49

Although...are you quite sure it wasn't chopped up over cooked cabbage?

allegretto · 05/11/2017 15:49

I cook lettuce with peas and butter sometimes - very nice but I wouldn't want raw lettuce with a roast.

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 05/11/2017 15:50

I’m with everyone else... lettuce?! That’s beyond a sacrilegious - that’s stuff of heathens and I wouldn’t be paying for a roast dinner with bloody lettuce on it!

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 05/11/2017 15:50

Lettuce? On a roast?

allegretto · 05/11/2017 15:52

Only acceptable like this www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1659/braised-lettuce-with-peas

Mummaofboys · 05/11/2017 15:52

Dear god lettuce on a Sunday roast?

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/11/2017 15:54

Lettuce on a roast?
Was there coleslaw too?
That's weird

PumpkinSquash · 05/11/2017 15:55

I was about to say YADNBU just because of the fact that there was no Yorkshire pudding with your Sunday roast.
LETTUCE though?! Confused No. just no. Are you sure you're not getting mixed up with cabbage?! Lettuce with a roast is all manner of wrong. Cabbage on the other hand, is not.

pisacake · 05/11/2017 15:59

how much did you pay?

BarbaraofSevillle · 05/11/2017 16:01

Did you go late in the day and they were running out of things?

At this time of year, I would expect sprouts and some other vegetables. And Yorkshire Puddings are non negotiable even if you don't have beef.

YANBU to be disappointed. Given that you can get a Toby Carvery for £6 or £9 on Sundays and it really is quite decent, you'd expect anywhere serving a roast to at least meet that standard.

Allyg1185 · 05/11/2017 16:07

Surely it was cabbage?

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 05/11/2017 16:14

Lettuce with a roast? Something is desperately wrong here. Is there an apocalypse? We'll all dooooooomed!

TheWernethWife · 05/11/2017 16:14

We once went for lunch in a lovely looking pub in Yorkshire, ordered the roast lamb and was given a pot of what should have been mint sauce. What I got was some sort of vinegary liquid with a few chopped up mint leaves floating in it, the waitress confirmed that this was what they classed as mint sauce wtf.
