Questionable pub roast dinner

I may be being unreasonable here so please do say?

I went to a pub for a roast this afternoon. It wasn't a good meal. It just didn't taste of anything other than gravy. (It was also missing the Yorkshire pudding and parsnip as promised on the menu)

My AIBU is, the menu said 'seasonal green vegetables'. But all I was given was huge helping of lettuce and a few half carrots.

Am I being greedy to think lettuce isn't particularly seasonal, and expected another vegetable at least?

I'm happy to be told I'm being unreasonable. I was just a bit Confused at the huge pile of lettuce

Commercial lettuce grower (veg farm) and we sell until mid-late November (NI) and some of the Lincs/Norfolk growers get about 10 days longer so definitely is still in season. However raw with a roast is just wrong Envy

saw locals in Italy eating pizza that was just the base and a mound of rocket
That's my favourite pizza!

I refuse to believe it was lettuce.

I sort of do this and have for years. I don’t do roast beef because I’m a vegetarian, but I will, instead of peas, broccoli or what-have-you, I’ll put side salad on the plate. It usually is just green leaf lettuce, tomatoes and maybe avocado salad. I’ll serve it on the same plate as mashed potatoes etc. Not sure why I started doing it but I remember my mum and dad being here in the 80’s and after a few weeks my mum saying it’s not bad and she’s going to do it when she gets back to Blighty.

I think you should ring and complain - letting them know that if they don't pick up their game they can expect shitty reviews - and to be named and shamed on the shitroastdinners site.

And ... LETTUCE????!

speakout · 06/11/2017 06:29

What did the staff say when you complained?

Am 😨 at lettuce and lack of Yorkshire pudding!

I can highly recommend The Plough and Harrow in Drakes Broughton, Worcestershire, for a carvery roast though. 3 types of meat, about 12 different vegetable-based accompaniments, roast, boiled & mashed potatoes and all the proper sauces...and they will do a gluten-free option with no hassle. Delicious.

Sorry but can't get over it being lettuce! Could it have been spinach mixed in with the cabbage?

AJPTaylor · 06/11/2017 06:32

Green veg.
Acceptable. Cabbage, peas, green beans, brocolli.
Unacceptable lettuce
