Do all the toddlers scream a lot?

Went to visit a friend and her toddler (1.5year old) was very loud: screaming A LOT, banging most his toys. He fell from his high chair on his head (no belt), later he chocked on bread and later he banged his head on the table. He seemed very agitated to me. Now I don't know much but I'm pregnant with my first and it scared me a lot!

Reassure me??

Sounds about normal, assuming you were in a restaurant / cafe where a 1.5 year old didn’t really want to be. Sorry!

tilda0 · 03/11/2017 23:46

I visited them at their home and all of this happened in 2.5hours

I'd be screaming too if I'd fell from a height and whacked my head, choked, and hit my head on a table.

Coastalcommand · 03/11/2017 23:47

No, mine rarely screams.

Notso · 03/11/2017 23:50

I've had four and only one was a screamer. They do need to be strapped into things and most bang toys at some point.

campion · 03/11/2017 23:51

Wouldn't you be agitated after all that?Shock

You've just had a lesson in toddlers needing careful supervision...and enough attention.

GretchenFranklin · 03/11/2017 23:51

Blimey. No my toddlers were a lot more peaceful than the one you met.

EB123 · 03/11/2017 23:54

My youngest is 18 months, he doesn't scream much but he does like to bang his toys and climbs everything so gets bumps.

kissmethere · 03/11/2017 23:57

No that doesn't sound good at all.

SparklyUnicornPoo · 04/11/2017 00:00

DS hardly ever screamed, DD never shut up, no two toddlers are the same.

SaltAndPeppaPig · 04/11/2017 00:00

My girl is 2 at the end of this month and very rarely screams or throws tantrums - but all toddlers are different of course! Not great that the child fell out of a high chair though?! No wonder he/she was going off on one Confused

Hotheadwheresthecoldbath · 04/11/2017 00:04

They s
hould come with hardhats.I was constant amazed that any toddler made it to adulthood when mine was little.

oldlaundbooth · 04/11/2017 00:07

They can be lively, yes.

oldlaundbooth · 04/11/2017 00:07

As a pp said not surprised he was agitated.

moonmaker · 04/11/2017 07:35

It depends - some are constantly agitated but if he fell on his head that’s probably why
My 20 month old loves visitors and will play nicely when people are around but can be quite whiny if he’s bored as he needs constant stimulation. He is also very hands on and into everything so needs constant supervision or he will damage things / hurt himself so it’s very hard work.

Ecureuil · 04/11/2017 07:41

I’ve had two who very very rarely screamed, but I imagine they would have done if they’d fell from a high chair on to their heads!

poptarting · 04/11/2017 07:47

Depends on the child. My dd can get very overexcited and loud.

RavingRoo · 04/11/2017 07:51

Sounds like lack of supervision to me. If you care for your toddler, give them attention, they are going to be much calmer.

Bbbbbbbb2017 · 04/11/2017 07:51

My dd is nearly 3 and is a screamer :(

OP, I used to find toddler noise / whirlwind activity a bit overwhelming too, but don’t worry - once you have your own you will get used to it !

kittydetective · 04/11/2017 08:49

Mine was a screamer from day 1.

Kids scream, cry and whinge ...... a lot!

NerrSnerr · 04/11/2017 08:53

Sounds normal. Mine wasn’t a screamer but I know plenty that were. I’d be agitated after falling from a high chair!

Dahlietta · 04/11/2017 09:01

Mine didn't scream or bang stuff or try to go places that he shouldn't or anything like that. But he threw the most SPECTACULAR tantrums at the age of about 3.

Fuckoffee · 04/11/2017 09:03

Mine have never been screamers. My youngest ones shouts a lot though. It's like he hasn't got a volume control Grin
