Double cream poured over them, instead of Whipped cream? I have some people coming over to eat. I have tried and liked Meringue Puffs with double cream poured over them but wondered if it is too odd to serve them like this to other people?

I wouldn't mind if there was fruit as well but just meringues and pouring cream would be a bit strange

Why don't you serve the pouring cream separately in a little jug and the whipped cream in a bowl so that they could choose?

Do you have any whipping cream? If not, you can whip double cream, it just doesn't keep the whipped consistency as long as whipping cream. (I checked recently in Sainsburys as they didn't have any whipping cream and I wanted some)

If it's a case of not being bothered not wanting to do the whipping I would recommend you choose a different desert.

Yes, let people choose! I don't like cream at all, and would prefer plain meringues if there was no ice cream on offer.

I am French and very offended at tge thought of cream. Strawberries, yes. Ice cream, yes. Anything else is heresy. Seriously.

Of course it does. Double cream has a higher butterfat content than whipping cream and stays equally as whipped as whipping cream.

Whipping cream has 36% fat content. Double cream has 48% fat content.

Personally I’d prefer both creams on the side as I’d eat neither.

You learn something new every day! Unless you are whipping by hand, it takes minutes to whip cream so why don't you ask them before you serve?

I'd choose the pouring cream over whipping cream. In fact that's how I'd serve them full stop - not giving the smallest thought that it would be disliked.

Electric whisk, 2 minutes, makes better tasting whipped cream than whipping cream does. Single cream won't whip, but double is great.

Either whip the cream or serve it on the side. If you pour it over too soon it might start dissolving the meringues (bad memories of when my stepmother tried to make us Eton mess with some sort of low fat nonsense fake cream...)
