WIBU to bring the pumpkins in?

DH loves Halloween. He's carved pumpkins with the dcs, decorated the front door and filled a bowl full of sweets. Lovely. The door has been going nonstop since I got home from work. I have loads to do. I hate Halloween. DH has gone off to work his late shift mumbling about missing all the fun..WIBU to bring the bloody pumpkins in, turn the lights off and enjoy my evening in peace (with sweets!)? I realise I am the Grinch of Halloween, surely I can't be the only one!

our now teens!

We've had somewhere around 30 callers (well over 50 kids). They get one lolly or chewy sweet each - but at that rate that's still a bucket brimming as almost every house has a pumpkin or sign.

But it'll die down soon and after 8 the curtains will be drawn!!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 31/10/2017 18:44

Just leave the bowl of sweets outside so children can help themselves?

Daisymaybe60 · 31/10/2017 18:47

No, not unreasonable, if you really don't like it. We've had four lots knocking so far, all littlies, all very cute and excited, and all remembering their thank yous! I'm hoping the sweets will last out seeing as DH ate all the Twixes....

Shiftymake · 31/10/2017 18:47

I just filled a box up with sweets, wrote happy halloween on the box and left the lot on the fence.. Hope its gone tomorrow or I will need to find other ways to get rid. Love halloween but seem to live with those doors people do not knock on. Street is almost empty here.

MsHarry · 31/10/2017 18:50

Ooh spoke too soon, just had first callers! still plenty of drumsticks left though Wink

Jaffalong · 31/10/2017 18:50

We've been out trick or treating and have accumulated a serious amount of sweets. Nobody's been round because we've been out so I've got a bag of unopened sweets that I bought earlier.

So I'll be collecting and filling a load of jam jars with sweets to donate to the Christmas fair next month! Without my knowing of course, which is going to be difficult.

Athome77 · 31/10/2017 18:50

All our sweets have gone so just stuck a sign up so no more sweets and no one has knocked since

Cat after the door bell had gone a few times...

WIBU to bring the pumpkins in?
icelollycraving · 31/10/2017 18:55

Yanbu. I'm not doing it this year. Last year there were queues at each house. Madness.
Always actually gives me the creeps,

SoupDragon · 31/10/2017 18:57

Ive just had a group who knocked despite me not having a pumpkin outside or any decorations at all. They kept on knocking repeatedly too. I ignored them!

I've never had that before, they all seem to respect the Pumpkin Rule here usually.

I think when you can't find outfits to fit ( height wise) there lies the clue it's for younger children

So, tall children aren't allowed to go Trick or Treating?

paranoidpammywhammy2 · 31/10/2017 18:58

We've had very few so far but it's freezing.

Last year we ran out of sweets so bought more this year. I keep saying "Take a handful" but the kids around here are very polite and spend forever just taking one.

Streets are deserted.

Littlebelina · 31/10/2017 19:01

We have had none despite our pumpkins. I love Halloween and always get disappointed when we don't get many\any but we live on a street with lots of old folks so think they get put off as most houses aren't decorated. DS did well on his travels though but we only knocked at decorated houses

Slimthistime · 31/10/2017 19:04

bring them in already.

why did he put them outside if he wasn't going to be there to deal with it?!

HeadDreamer · 31/10/2017 19:06

Yes take them in. I do when we run out of sweets and I’m almost out.

HeadDreamer · 31/10/2017 19:07

And tell him if he’s not in to open the doors then keep the pumpkins in the back garden and decorations indoors. Having them outside is a sign for kids to knock at your door.

GabsAlot · 31/10/2017 19:08

are u unreasonabl for not handing out free stuff

of course not

Justgivemesomepeace · 31/10/2017 19:12

Leave your pumpkin on and leave the bowl of sweets outside with a note to help yourself. Otherwise you'll be stuck with the sweets for weeks!

mrsRosaPimento · 31/10/2017 19:12

I brought the pumpkins in at tea time.

mrsRosaPimento · 31/10/2017 19:15

I didn’t respond to a knock at the door quickly enough and by the time I opened it they’d gone and I surprised a group of teenagers as they walked past trick or treating. I reassured them I wasn’t waiting behind the door for them.

ohtheholidays · 31/10/2017 19:18

I think we've had about 80 now but then my DH goes all out and decorates the whole of the garden and I do the house and we give out a party bag filled with treats for every trick or treater so we expect to get alot.

When it comes to age I don't care how old they are and for the nonsense another poster mentioned about if they're to tall for a costume our DD has just turned 10 and is 5ft 4 why should she miss out because she's tall!

OP if your fed up with it all and tired just bring everything in and turn the lights off, come 9'0' clock that's what I'm doing.

DaysofWineandNeurosis · 31/10/2017 19:21

I've got agonising ear ache and have had painkillers and taken myself off to bed. No pumpkin, no decorations and no lights on and still people are knocking and knocking. One lot banged for so long I got worried that there was an actual emergency and hauled myself down to answer the door but it was just teenagers.

TeenTimesTwo · 31/10/2017 19:22

We've had 60-70 so far I think.

Most dressed up, beautifully polite, and enjoying the evening.

But I just sent one non-dressed-up lad away empty handed and his 2 mates who had made limited effort (1 wearing a face mask and one just a cloak) were very lucky to get something.

Slimthistime · 31/10/2017 19:26

Days, what a mare! I hope you feel better soon.
