WIBU to bring the pumpkins in?

DH loves Halloween. He's carved pumpkins with the dcs, decorated the front door and filled a bowl full of sweets. Lovely. The door has been going nonstop since I got home from work. I have loads to do. I hate Halloween. DH has gone off to work his late shift mumbling about missing all the fun..WIBU to bring the bloody pumpkins in, turn the lights off and enjoy my evening in peace (with sweets!)? I realise I am the Grinch of Halloween, surely I can't be the only one!

I've had no one !

Take it back. Group of 5 girls. All very polite, dressed up and told terrible jokes.

ToadTheVampireThreadKiller · 31/10/2017 19:30

Several have rung the bell tonight, there is no pumpkin and the outside lights are off. There are more this year than the last 2 years, I hear them hammering on the other doors. There is no etiquette here, in fact I doubt any of them know what the word means.

Toad, I must be honest, I didn't know there was such a thing as Halloween etiquette. Where I grew up, no one did it at all.

then in my 20s, my parents used to get local teens banging the door aggressively, shouting abuse and egging the car. It was honestly news to me when I found out that some people did it in a proper way. It's one of the reasons I hate it, worrying about people like my olds.

Glowerglass - at least you got jokes. My first English Halloween for many years has been a right let down in that respect. After years of guising we only give sweeties out for jokes - that was quite a surprise for the kids round here.

Pumpkin etiquette being followed here. We’ve put ours away as the dcs are a bit poorly and I want them to sleep! But we’ve had loads of visitors.

I did my usual and ordered in far too many sweets which need getting rid of now Blush

YWNBU.
My friend lives on an estate that seems to go to town on it. Trouble is, word has now got round over last couple of years and people are driving from far and wide to do trick or treating there. People ran out of sweets really early as there were so many going round. Must be bit disappointing for the ones that actually live there and missed out.

oh the holidays! 80??!!
That's impressive, your house and garden decorations must be great. Your sweet bowl must be bottomless.

I love the little ones who come early with a hovering big sibling or parent, they look so thrilled to get sweets. Last year I had about 6 small groups, littles as soon as it got dark, older ones later. Sadly this year no one seems to be out at all!
And I deliberately bought sweets that won't tempt me, Moams and Haribo. I'm glad I didn't get the soft jellies from M&S, lemon, orange, and black currant. I tried all 3 in the shop and certainly couldn't resist them if I had a bag in the house!

We didn't do anything this year. I bought spider shaped chocolates from Sainsbury's which we'll eat during bake off. No pumpkins. More excited about bake off than Halloween.

Trick or treaters would have to walk a mile down an unlit lane, up and down hills to get to us Grin we've never had a trick or treater

ohtheholidays · 31/10/2017 20:09

Beeziekn33ze the most we've ever had is 120.My DH loves Halloween and we have 5DC and live in an area that's full of familys,so we do go all out.

I made up enough party bags to fill 3 large crisp boxes and I've still had to make more up.

I love when you get the little tiny one's,the youngest one we had was done up as a little Mummy and he was only 2 years old and he kept saying thank you for his sweeties I think DD10 wanted to keep him in exchange for the sweets Grin

So far all of the trick or treaters we've had have been lovely and have made so much effort and all of the teenage girls have loved my costume, this year I'm a Unicorn.

Really disappointed this year. It's a bit of an event in our road, everybody makes an effort including one family who do a quite spectacular show for everybody's benefit. I've lived here for 14 years and each year when we go out to trick or treat, I leave a huge bowl of sweets on the step with a sign for people to help themselves (at least until we come back). Others with babies or very young children do this too to avoid being distured. Never been a problem, lots of little kids with parents and everybody having fun. Tonight, I came back after a 10 minute round with my 6 yo DS to find my bowl completely empty and tipped up, sign screwed up on floor. My NDN beautifully carved and lit pumpkins were kicked across the drive. It appears that it had happened to loads of people in our street and the surrounding area, ruining it for everybody. What utter shits.
