I've bought a sofa on eBay 'buy it now'. New condition, looks identical to and same name as a dfs model that I like, but more than half the price:

I'm now getting twitchy. Firstly it is big risk buying a sofa I haven't sat on (but it's for the kitchen rather than lounging on to watch tv)

Secondly - I've just realised that nearly all recent +ve feedback is as a buyer rather than seller and a few items sold but not actual sofas.

Thirdly, I make a quick decision on the sofa because it said 'last one remaining' on the eBay listing. But I've just bought it, and it's STILL. there saying one remaining. That doesn't seem right does it.

It's due to be delivered next week but I'm a bit worried now I've been scammed somehow.

Would they be allowed to make a dfs copy and call it the same thing?

Or might they be the supplier to dfs (best case scenario), or someone who bought excess stock or something?

A sofa in your KITCHEN? And I thought i was weird for wanting one in my garden ;-D

Did you pay via PayPal?? If so, you should have buyer protection.

You've got ebay's protection if it's not as described so probably not too much risk. Have you sat on the dfs one and compared the measurements to see if they seats etc are the same size?

Yes i dont fully understand this but i have bought things before on ebay that are actually exactly the same as things in other shops but much cheaper so no reason to think its a scam. When is it due to arrive? You have protection on ebay if you use paypal. They wont release the funds to the seller if you register a dispute. Hopefully it will arrive on time and be as expected but if not just let ebay know and they will follow it up.

Might be an over order or a second. There is a shop near us that sells dfs over orders.

Measurements are very similar, 1-2cm out but picture is identical.
Not sat on it in dfs but read online reviews saying it's comfortable.

eBay description talks about U.K. Made frame, foam filled seating pads wrapped in Dacron (whatever that is) and generally makes a good impression.

Yes you're right - I have protection, I should calm down about it and follow it up if it's not as described or doesn't arrive.

I'd be worried about them using a DFS photo.
Ebay let you use an 'out of stock' option. That means sellers can list 2 items, and after one is sold the 'last one' flash will show. After that, they can just keep adding one item.
When its delivered have someone else around to act as a witness and a camera. If its not as advertised get a photo and refuse delivery.

We have a sofa outlet near us who use the same factory as DFS and use some of the exact same designs at about half the price. They have a big warehouse you can visit but no shops so a lot lower overheads. I assume an ebay seller has even lower overheads.

No point in having buyers remorse until you have actually seen the sofa. If it is substandard then you can take action but for now look forward to a nice new sofa.

My friend bought one from eBay recently - very good quality and a fraction of the price new. Only issue was they had to take the patio door off to fit it in the house!

It’s likely just dfs seconds, that’s why it’s cheaper.

I would be worried it didn’t mean fire regulations to be honest. Especially as it is going in a kitchen.

I bought my sofa from eBay, identical to the Dfs one I had my eye on, but as you say 1/3 the price. It’s brilliant. The only difference from the dfs one is that the seat cushions are not fixed on mine, which is better as I can even out the wear.

I think it sounds fine! And if it's not, you will have protection by PayPal.

Do check for the fire tag though.

Dfs ones cost more because a lot are sold on interest free credit which has to be paid for by increase in cost of the item, to cover interest on the loan plus cost of defaulters. That probably would be a third of the total.

Just asking as most legit sellers will accept returns, although buyer pays transport

Report the image - it's a copyright infringement. (as a seller supposed to use your own photos)

If it's a business seller? You are entitled to change your mind - it's the law!

If you do decide to continue - you have eBays 30 day money back guarantee and PayPals 180 cover.

If its a copy - think fire risk!

If its not as described - you open a SNAD case - seller pays for return postage.

Ebays money back guarantee overrides any written in the return section.
