To have buyers remorse - eBay

Tankerdale · 20/10/2017 16:26

I've bought a sofa on eBay 'buy it now'. New condition, looks identical to and same name as a dfs model that I like, but more than half the price:

I'm now getting twitchy. Firstly it is big risk buying a sofa I haven't sat on (but it's for the kitchen rather than lounging on to watch tv)

Secondly - I've just realised that nearly all recent +ve feedback is as a buyer rather than seller and a few items sold but not actual sofas.

Thirdly, I make a quick decision on the sofa because it said 'last one remaining' on the eBay listing. But I've just bought it, and it's STILL. there saying one remaining. That doesn't seem right does it.

It's due to be delivered next week but I'm a bit worried now I've been scammed somehow.

Would they be allowed to make a dfs copy and call it the same thing?

Or might they be the supplier to dfs (best case scenario), or someone who bought excess stock or something?

It's probably just a second, (minor factory fault, so minor not mentioned) or a return. There are some good deals to be had on eBay, so fear not yet. Check the sofa over when it arrives. You are protected through eBay & Paypal, should a return and refund be necessary.

Miserylovescompany2 · 21/10/2017 08:36

If it's a second - it has to state this in the description.

Hohofortherobbers · 21/10/2017 08:43

Just wait and see, you'll have the right to return it if it is not as described

Tankerdale · 21/10/2017 14:20

Thank you - good point about fire tag.
I did ask the seller for more info about whether it was the same as the dfs one and he didn't address is said it's their 'own manufacturer' in the U.K.

They say 30 days return policy.

When if it arrives I'll update!!

Just a quick update...
I think it was too good to be true!

No delivery or contact from the courier as promised within 10 days and estimated delivery has come and gone.

Also via details on the PayPal found out the company behind it and a quick google threw up lots and lots of very concerning reviews and negative experiences - delivery taking months then sofas falling apart after a few months!
It seems they've been on eBay for some time but under different IDs.
They are basically cheap copies of the dfs French connection sofas and they are using the DFS stock photos on eBay!

So a bit of a lucky escape, have requested a refund due to item not being received.

OP, i think I know who you mean. Guy called ian, based in darlington? We ordered a sofa from them, no contact was made, it turned up 9pm, damaged and I refused it.

He refused my phonecalls, in the end i posted a very negative comment on feedback and got ebay involved. Once I did that i got my refund back in about 2 days.

Tankerdale · 28/10/2017 10:06

Yes that's the one.
I've opened a case with eBay so am confident of the refund.
Definitely a lucky escape. The company's Facebook page and a moneysavingexpert thread is very eye opening!

Should have trusted my instinct in the first place really.

Sounds like you've had a lucky escape, name and shame where you can so others can avoid

Banjax · 28/10/2017 10:25

yes, i was kicking myself. They did get their butts in gear though. Hope that reassures you a bit.

Also, the delivery company is totally shady, the guys who turned up were exhausted, had been on the road from 6am til past midnight and were rattling through red bull, they told me that themselves. I felt so sorry for them, having to return that shitty sofa.

SamanthaUnkim · 28/10/2017 10:30

Can I just say, as a professional "Buyer" .

Sofas are massively high margin products due to the on costs of showrooms, sales staff and the frequency of reordering acting as a barrier to new retailers entering the market.

Sounds like you have just found a good deal.

kali110 · 28/10/2017 21:38

Clearly the op didnt have a good deal.
Sorry op, shocking the ebay still have the seller on there!!

I buy all my sofas on ebay and they have all been fine. I've just bought a reclaimed wood sideboard and table too - they are great and much cheaper than in the shops.
You generally get what you pay for though. Cheap curtains generally look cheap.

Report them for copyright infringement, using someone DFS photos is not permitted if they are not DFS sofas.
