When is Sunday lunch "Sunday lunch"

Dh and I agreed we hadn't seen our friends in a while and thought about inviting them for tea/brunch/lunch on Sunday. I said text him and say how about lunch, specify sort of toasties and salad. He texted and said "Sunday lunch, nothing too complicated" 🙈🙈🙈they have come back to say thanks so much we will bring a dessert. He CANNOT understand that he invited our friends for "Sunday lunch" ie roast chicken and potatoes and thinks he is totally fine to serve toasties. I may kill him. Aibu????!!!!

If I was invited for "Sunday lunch" I'd expect the whole roast dinner. If I was invited for lunch, I'd expect soup and a sandwich, or salad kind of meal.

Sunday lunch is a roast IMO.

Only way around this is a pulled pork type of thing. If you do roasted veg and new potatoes in a tray bake with chicken breasts- easy too.

I've told him I posted this, he's now worried that aibu is going to come for him with multiple LTBs (honestly this is very lighthearted, I'm agreed we now need to make "Sunday lunch") but he still thinks he could serve toasties and it would be fine (even if they brought dessert). Dessert and fricking toasties

Wobbly I was thinking more make a few toasties, buy some of marksies patisserie and have a cuppa and a yarn. Now I'm all Delia (I can be Delia, just didn't see it coming as I also gave my father round for actual dinner that eve)

He had offered to cook whatever is needed... That makes me more worried, if you think you can still serve toasties what will he actually serve

I wouldn't expect a roast necessarily, but definitely something "nice". Toasties and salad would need a fair spread of interesting salads and charcuterie to help them along...

I recall one Christmas morning having my mother down for a continental breakfast. Not sure what continent she was thinking of but she was expecting a fry, not fruit and croissants. A fry before a Christmas dinner?

If you invited me round for Sunday lunch I'd be thinking "ooh, how lovely, roast, potatoes, Yorkshire pudding etc. Yum. Can't wait."
If on arrival Sunday lunch turned out to be poxy toasties instead (even though I love toasties, but it's not the same as when you're anticipating a Sunday roast, come on) I think I might want to cry.
I wouldn't let it show. I'd be all "ooh, that's delicious, thank you."
Then go home and make a little voodoo doll of you and stick pins in it

I'm crying now. 😂 Dh says he'll cook whatever the hell you lot tell him to cook but he's not a B and there's no LT needed (I agree, he cracks me up)

A roast chicken is far less effort than a round of toasted sandwiches!

Turn on oven.

Unpack chicken.

Put chicken in roasting pan.

Put pan in oven.

Remove 1 1/2 - 2 hours later, depending on size.

The only dilemma is "Is it roast potato season yet?" IMO it's not cold enough yet but I'm waiting with baited breath.

Toasties for Sun lunch???!!! Unacceptable. Unless you don't actually like the people you've invited and want them to stop speaking to you.

As an aside, when is it ever acceptable to invite people round for toasties?! I guess we move in different circles. Cheese, charcuterie and good wine perhaps but toasties no!!! Who are these people eating carbs? I hope you were at least planning on using sourdough. Unless you're students.....and even then I'd expect better!
