To be annoyed with friend

Who compared my 3-4 week food poisoning to her DD's on/off sickness bug
and to also compare it to 'Harry' (Kid we both know who has been a little sick (24 hour bug). I am really pissed off at her lack of understanding at just how
ill I was and to also assume 'You are better now.' (I am not completely, she didn't ask, just assumed.'
I would be so worried if the situation was to be reversed and it hurts how little interest and support she has shown towards me.

3-4 weeks???

Have you seen the Doc? That’s not right!

BulletFox · 17/10/2017 18:24

Were you hospitalised? How did you get nutrition?

User1457 · 17/10/2017 18:25

3-4 weeks is a long time for food poisoning, I always throughly my once it was out of your system you started improving? What did you eat?

Were you in hospital? It wouldn't annoy me, I would just class it as a throw away comment.

Hope you feel better soon though.

User1457 · 17/10/2017 18:26

Thought once
Oops

Sienna333 · 17/10/2017 18:29

Well I had the nausea, cramps and sickness to begin then was left with 17 days of diarrhoea.

OP posts:
Hissy · 17/10/2017 18:30

Sounds like a bug to me, usually things like that need starving out.
Bland food, no fat, no meat etc
Are you better now?

PurpleMinionMummy · 17/10/2017 18:32

3-4 wk food poisoning and on/off sick bug sound equally shit to me.

Hissy · 17/10/2017 18:32

Most people WOULD assume you’d be better by now... I think you’re making a mountain out of a molehill tbh.

Ecureuil · 17/10/2017 18:36

It wouldn’t bother me particularly. I had sepsis and was in intensive care, one of my friends said ‘I felt like that when I had a wee infection’. She recently told me she’d only just realised how serious sepsis is. Didn’t really occur to me to get wound up about it.

2014newme · 17/10/2017 18:37

Bugs don't get 'starved out' 😂 it's a myth

Bluntness100 · 17/10/2017 18:38

That is very rare. What type of food poisoning were you diagnosed with. I’m guessing you were hospitalised for a period?

Sienna333 · 17/10/2017 18:38

By on/off sick bug I meant this kid had about 4 days like that. I don't think it compares to bloody diarrhoea, kidney pain, sickness, nausea and cramps somehow.

OP posts:
Ecureuil · 17/10/2017 18:39

Why does it matter that she acknowledges how much worse your illness was than his?

Sienna333 · 17/10/2017 18:40

Well I only had the sickness, cramps and nausea for a few days then was left with days of diarrhoea. I do know a few people who have had 2-3 weeks off work for food poisoning and this friend did know all the details about what happened with me so it wasn't like it was a 2-5 day mini sick bug.

OP posts:
Sienna333 · 17/10/2017 18:41

Her lack of interest and sympathy hurt. As I said, if it was the other way round, I would have been very worried about her.

I'm baffled that a grown person feels the need to be told "You're right, you have been sicker than my child". It's really not a competition and in all fairness it does sound like a nasty bug rather than food poisoning. Surely your friend can be forgiven for assuming you had the same nasty bug her child had. As for her lack of interest, I imagine all of her concern has been rightly focussed on her sick child.

innerfoundpeas · 17/10/2017 18:52

OP - it is quite common to have diarrhoea for a few weeks/ even months after bugs and also reactions to drugs. Sorry you have been affected. keep liquids up and hopefully you will feel better soon.

Sienna333 · 17/10/2017 18:53

Her own child was sick once 2 weeks ago.

It's not like I need to be told I was much sicker, I just find it insulting to be grouped in with 2 kids who had very minor sickness bugs.

OP posts:
Sienna333 · 17/10/2017 18:54

Thanks Innerfoundpeas. It does seem to be slowing a lot now thank goodness

OP posts:
FreeMeNow · 17/10/2017 18:55

Are you the poster who thought she had chrones?

Sienna333 · 17/10/2017 18:58

Yes it was. I think it was a natural concern given all my symptoms and the length of the illness. As I said, it seems to be slowing now but when I was at the end of the 2 week mark and still crapping like no-ones business, it did concern me that it may be something chronic like Chrones.

OP posts:
Originalfoogirl · 17/10/2017 18:59

Are you 12?

Does it really matter who was more sick?

Maybe she is sitting wondering why you weren't more sympathetic about her young child for whom a 4 day sickness bug is actually quite a horrible thing? Never mind that, eh - as long as you can say you were more ill, that's what matters.

MsPassepartout · 17/10/2017 19:01

Hope you're feeling better soon. I had food poisoning (campylobacter) a while back and that dragged on for several weeks before I was fully back to normal.

Zippydoodah · 17/10/2017 19:04

To be honest, it annoys me when I share my experiences and people see it as my one upmanship. If I wanted to do that, it would not be with illnesses. It's more me trying to empathise and find some common ground

Myheartbelongsto · 17/10/2017 19:06

You're being a little precious imo.
