To be annoyed at this old lady

So I pulled into my street driving home from my parents house earlier today, two DC in the back of car.

As I was driving down the street at no more than 20mph (mainly because of car wrecking speed bumps) an old lady with a walking stick suddenly came from behind the back of a lorry straight into the road.

Well thank goodness I saw her quick enough and stopped the car almost instantly so I didn’t hit her. I put my hand up in courtesy but didn’t feel I did any wrong.

However, this lady then begins to wave her walking stick towards my direction and shouting ‘you young drivers now days do not know how to drive and need to slow down’

She was an old lady so I wasn’t going to shout back at her but during the day it’s annoyed me more and more. SHE walked into the road without checking, I was not speeding, at 29 I do not class myself as a young driver!

To be fair, the old woman probably had a scare and was just venting her anxiety/near death experience at you. Don’t let it bother you.

I've had enough experiences of ageism coming from the elderly towards 'younger generations' to be able to imagine exactly what happened there. She had no good reason to shout at you, and was frankly ageist. Of course if you were to say anything back you would be in the wrong...

Why are you bothered? she didn't whack your car or threaten your children's lives! A woman was mildly annoyed by something. Why are you making that your problem? Roll your eyes and ignore. People really look for things to be upset by.

I'm an old lady - I spend my whole time jumping out into traffic. Just for shits and giggles - got to do something to pass the time otherwise I'd be sitting at home getting high on Sanatogen.

In an area I used to live in there was an old lady who wore shawls and looked like Madame Mim out of Sword in the Stone. She had a few tweed ensembles, consisting of a tweed shawl. She, like MM was under five foot tall. She was fabulous.

OP, chances are walking causes her pain, pain makes you grumpy.

I think small streets with parked cars should be between 10-15 mph, tbh.

I bet she also had a woollen bunnet on her head and those furry, tartan boot slippers too.

When you're staring down the road at 49 approaching fast you will think 29 is young!!! Basic rules of the road are not to cross near parked vehicles as you and the drivers have no visibility. So she was wrong to step out there. Driving at 20 in a residential street is a good idea as a pedestrian has a reasonable chance of survival even if there is a collision, and you never know when a random child, old person or jogger with headphones is going to launch themselves into your path.
