Can DD eat this macaroni cheese?

CathyMedici · 09/10/2017 16:46

Sorry - got to dash out but feed DD (13) first. I have M&S mac cheese in freezer. Use by date 9/07/17 (when chilled) says eat within one month of freezing.

Can I give it to her?

Be kind!

I would. Without a second thought.

nakedscientist · 09/10/2017 16:48

Yes x

justgivemethepinot · 09/10/2017 16:48

I would Smile

Pickleypickles · 09/10/2017 16:48

I would eat it personally, might just not be as yummy as if fresh......im sure lots of people will say otherwise though Sad

CathyMedici · 09/10/2017 16:50

So, it's 4 months old? And M&S say eat within 1 month of freezing?

newmumwithquestions · 09/10/2017 16:50

I would. But I eat the things that I dig out from the back that have been there for over 6 months (or longer)

FartnissEverbeans · 09/10/2017 16:51

My understanding is that freezing is safe indefinitely but the quality goes downhill?

BumWad · 09/10/2017 16:53

Absolutely fine eat away

Branleuse · 09/10/2017 16:54

if its frozen it will be fine. Things in the freezer are supposed to keep for ages. Theyre playing it very safe by saying 1 month, its not necessary.

If it looks like it has freezerburn then maybe now, but otherwise I would

CathyMedici · 09/10/2017 16:57

Thank you all. I know that better mums than me would have whipped up a fresh one in the time it took to start this thread Blush

Off out now so please don't post macaroni cheese horror stories!!

OlennasWimple · 09/10/2017 16:59

I'd eat it too. It might not taste quite a s good as it would have done four months ago, but should be perfectly safe

PickAChew · 09/10/2017 17:00

I only chuck stuff out of the freezer when it gets freezer burnt so badly that it's like rubber.

dementedpixie · 09/10/2017 17:02

Is it a best before date? It's only quality that suffers and it's not a safety issue

Fillybuster · 09/10/2017 17:02

Oh dear - I had to read the op several times before I understood the question HmmBlush

I served dh home made soup with a 2015 label on it yesterday. And used up some raw pastry I made 3 years ago when we had guests at the weekend.

Quite frankly, you could probably find various extinct species in the back of my freezer!

dementedpixie · 09/10/2017 17:05

I suppose it would be a use by if it had been chilled before. I wouldn't think twice about eating it as freezing keeps it pretty fresh

budgiegirl · 09/10/2017 17:13

I would. We had salmon last night that we found at the bottom of our chest freezer. It had a July date on it, and I know it wasn't this July just gone. I'm couldn't say for sure that it was last July either, but we still ate it, and it was fine !

diddl · 09/10/2017 17:14

Noooo-she can't!

But I canGrin

PotteringAlong · 09/10/2017 17:14

Definitely! There's all sorts in my freezer that I dig out!

MarthaArthur · 09/10/2017 17:17

It will be fine. Bugs cant breed in ut frozen. I have eaten things from the freezer literally years after being frozenShock but the longer stuff is in the freezer esoecially dairy cheese/sauce/cream it forms little ice crystals that make it taste not as nice. Harmless but not as tasty.

mathanxiety · 09/10/2017 17:19

If I can figure out what an item is (or was) I thaw it, cook it and eat it. Still here and none the worse.

speakout · 09/10/2017 17:23

I wouldn't eat or serve it.

I am sure it would be safe, but probably horrid.

NinonDeLenclos · 09/10/2017 17:32

Is this a serious question?

Buggeritimgettingup · 09/10/2017 17:39

I have things in my freezer older than some of my children....

youngest started school this year

arethereanyleftatall · 09/10/2017 17:57

I wouldn't give this a second thought, yes I'd eat it. Lots of stuff on my freezer has been in there for years, all gets eaten.

CathyMedici · 09/10/2017 18:04

Is this a serious question?

Yes Hmm

Home now. DD says the macaroni cheese was "very nice".

Thanks all 😀
