LIGHTHEARTED- I'm aware people have real problems etc etc.

So, DP and I got back late last night after a few drinks (I'd heard some very sad news about my grandma so we went to a comedy night to try and have a bit of a laugh)

We hadn't had dinner and I'd been low carbing for three weeks. We were ravenous. Absolutely CRAVING a MacDonalds (yes I know! I like it once in a while)

So we did an Uber eats thing.
We ordered: 2 Quarter pounders with cheese
2 large fries
6 chicken nuggets
1 chocolate milkshake
1 strawberry milkshake

Took bloody AGES but eventually turned up.

I unwrapped a sad, flaccid and pale chicken wrap thing with no cheese

1 portion of stone cold fries

1 Big Mac with no cheese, and no
sauce (who are these phillistines)

2 Diet Cokes

I could have cried. After living on eggs, ham and spinach all week the disappointment was very real. Just like that time I treated myself to an M&S giant scotch egg and the egg part was missing!

DP got a refund but still. Tell me about your food disappointments to cheer me up!

Sorry about your grandma [flower]

I have a McDonalds one too - my sister told me the other week that the Drive Thru have stopped putting salt on the fries. I laughed and said "no they won't! Har har har!" like an absolute knob. Low and behold, next Drive Thru expedition comes round, we go through, get on the motorway, I start stuffing chips in my gob. NO. SALT. Livid isn't the word. Angry

HarrietKettleWasHere · 28/09/2017 12:01

What??? Is that true Shock why the hell would they stop putting salt on fries???

Rick Steins fish and chips. The fish was beautiful, one of the best I've had but the chips were like cardboard.. the worst I've ever had! I threw my expensive chips to the seagulls.

M&S Cookie Dough balls.. I've read rave reviews on here so I walked miles to get some, and didn't like them at all. I normally binge on anything like that and can eat a whole bowl of actual cookie dough!

TieGrr · 28/09/2017 12:09

Met a friend in Wetherspoons for lunch last weekend. Ordered a ham and cheese toastie with chips on the side.

The waitress brought over a ham and cheese toastie with salad. I nearly cried. Tears actually welled up in my eyes as I said in most plaintive voice, 'but I ordered chips!'

In my defence, I was having an awful day and the lovely waitress replaced the salad with chips. But yeah, I don't think I've ever been as disappointed by food before.

CanIBuffalo · 28/09/2017 12:09

I made the JO flatbreads from a recipe raved about on MN thread recently.
They were VILE.

StumpyScot92 · 28/09/2017 12:21

I'm pregnant and nearly cried last night because it turns out asdas Salad cream tastes awful compared to Sainsbury's one.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 28/09/2017 12:22

When you want chips and get poss poor chips or no chips its a bitter disappointment!

Grin

Ah! I was going to make the Jamie flatbreads at the weekend after seeing them mentioned on here so much!

Cronuts are my major food disappointment. I was really looking forward to trying them but they weren't worth the hype :(

readit · 28/09/2017 12:32

I'm glad I'm not the only one disappointed by those flatbreads. Grim.

gunsandbanjos · 28/09/2017 12:32

Anstruther fish and chip shop, supposedly the best ever...
I only had chips as I don’t like fish, was really looking forward to them, they were shit! Hot and freshly cooked but dry, if I get chips I want them hot and squidgy and drenched in salt and vinegar. My fiancé said the fish wasn’t any better.
Stopped at my parents on the way home and they said they thought it was rubbish too.

Cantseethewoods · 28/09/2017 12:35

McDonalds chips have never been the same since they stopped frying in beef tallow in 1990. Then they later found out that actually that would be healthier than the veg oil they use now.

Tazerface · 28/09/2017 12:37

Reds BBQ in Liverpool. Friend had raved and the menu looked amazing.

I mean...it was ok. The burgers weren't any better than you can get at Frankie and Benny's, the corn bread was disgusting and overall it was just an oversized American style meal that I wasn't in love with.

e1y1 · 28/09/2017 12:39

Must be something with McDonalds at the moment. We had it last night and;

Cold fries

Big Mac completely upside down (as in the wrong way in the box and made wrong, the bottom bun and top bun mixed up in relation to the sauce filling etc)

“Chocolate” milkshake that was liquid, and didn’t actually have chocolate in it, it just tasted like what I would imagine cold milk with sugar thrown in.

It was beyond shit.

Sorry about your Grandmother Flowers

Penny4UrThoughts · 28/09/2017 12:41

I'm a huge fan of tyrells vegetable crisps - especially the beetroot ones.

I don't live near an M&S, so I always visit their food store when I'm near one. Imagine my delight when I discovered they did bags of just beetroot crisps! M&S - bound to be freaking amazing! I told everyone I was with how good beetroot crisps are. (this was quite a few years ago when vegetable crisps were quite new).

I opened them up and generously let everyone try one first. The looks on their faces when they tried them should have been a clue... Omg they were inedibly horrific.

I've never risked trying M&S vegetable crisps since...

HarrietKettleWasHere · 28/09/2017 12:43

Macdonalds is the nuts if you're craving it and they get it right.

When they get it wrong though it's awful!

I had a chicken Big Mac in Dubai airport and oh I wish they did those here. But I got one on the way back and one of the bits that was supposed to be a chicken burger was another bit of bread. That was disappointing.

These crazy people who ordered a shit Macdonalds had requested no gherkin as well. It was a shell of a Big Mac.

Tescos had Crunchie small pie things on offer yesterday. Essentially Crunchie filling in a pastry case.

The pastry wasn't sweet so was like pork pie pastry with rubbish chocolate in the middle.

I'm breastfeeding a newborn ffs, I can eat ANYTHING I want!

(Obviously not anything, like but I was so outraged I'd wasted my calories!)

alltouchedout · 28/09/2017 12:49

Quite heavily pregnant with ds2. Wanted a cheese, cucumber and mayonnaise sandwich very much. Waddled through the town on my lunch break to the nice sandwich shop, ordered, paid, came back, found they had used salad cream instead of mayonnaise. Literally cried. Then waddled all the way back to the sandwich shop and said, I asked for mayonnaise and you used salad cream- and they argued with me. It was ridiculous, I have always hated salad cream, it is vile, I would never ever in a million years ask for it. I pointed this out at great length. I think they thought I was insane. I got my fucking cheese, cucumber and mayonnaise in the end though.

hudyerwheesht · 28/09/2017 12:55

I tried to recreate a fabulous croque Madame that I'd had recently- never made it before but googled a few recipes for the Monsieur part and fried an egg.
Was so tragic - soggy inside, rubbery cheese and tasted bland, nothing like the glorious cheesy brunch of wonder I had experienced.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo · 28/09/2017 12:57

Another McDonalds one!

Bought a chocolate milkshake, got home to find it was banana. I hate fruit flavour milkshakes. So disappointed.

moonbells · 28/09/2017 13:12

I had Eggs Royale for breakfast last week at a lovely cafe near where I work after I got a morning off. I thought they'd be lovely, and the smoked salmon and holladaise were, but the eggs were barely poached and had slimy whites, and made me feel queasy for an hour afterwards. Such a pity when the rest was so nicely done.

moonbells · 28/09/2017 13:13

gah. Hollandaise. And yes, I know it sounds terribly MC but I'd never had them (or Eggs Benedict) before and wanted to try them!

Crispyturtle · 28/09/2017 14:02

I once cried because the chip shop was shut. I'd had a long day at work and been dreaming about my chippy tea all afternoon. Forgot the chippy was closed on a Monday, drove there, then stood outside the locked door and cried!

Juanbablo · 28/09/2017 14:09

I'm sorry about your grandma.

I've had a really hard week and was really looking forward to a baked Camembert last night. It smelled of nothing, tasted of nothing and didn't melt at all, it was all lumpy. I was so disappointed.

PinkHeart5913 · 28/09/2017 14:11

I am pregnant with dc3 and craving salted peanuts all the time, seriously I can do 3 bags a day. Anyway ordered a load of packs with the online shop and they sent DRY ROASTED Sad I was not a happy pregnant lady but dh did get me some on his way home but I had no peanuts for hours.

When you order a hot chooclate with cream and it comes with that squirty stuff from the can instead of whipped fresh cream.

When you order a bacon sandwich in the cafe and the fat is all soft and horrid instead of crispy. 😷

Fantasticmissfoxy · 28/09/2017 14:12

Similar to your experience OP, Id been assembling flat pack all day with the eldest boy child 'helping' and was absolutely starving. I ordered a Deliveroo from our nearby 'dirty burger' type place - tripe layer cheeseburger with fried onions, pickles and chipotle mayo, sweet potato fries and a strawberry milkshake for me and the kids size equivalent for DS. Estimated delivery time, 30 minutes, took 2 hours. We were STARVING. It arrived, rider goes to hand it to me and the drinks had leaked causing the bottom to fall out of the bag and the food to go all over the road Angry
