LIGHTHEARTED- I'm aware people have real problems etc etc.

So, DP and I got back late last night after a few drinks (I'd heard some very sad news about my grandma so we went to a comedy night to try and have a bit of a laugh)

We hadn't had dinner and I'd been low carbing for three weeks. We were ravenous. Absolutely CRAVING a MacDonalds (yes I know! I like it once in a while)

So we did an Uber eats thing.
We ordered: 2 Quarter pounders with cheese
2 large fries
6 chicken nuggets
1 chocolate milkshake
1 strawberry milkshake

Took bloody AGES but eventually turned up.

I unwrapped a sad, flaccid and pale chicken wrap thing with no cheese

1 portion of stone cold fries

1 Big Mac with no cheese, and no
sauce (who are these phillistines)

2 Diet Cokes

I could have cried. After living on eggs, ham and spinach all week the disappointment was very real. Just like that time I treated myself to an M&S giant scotch egg and the egg part was missing!

DP got a refund but still. Tell me about your food disappointments to cheer me up!

Big tasty meal today. Big messy. Wasn't that nice either Hmm

SisyphusHadItEasy · 28/09/2017 14:15

I asked DD the question in your OP.

She is currently in the hospital - her very accurate 11yo response was "EVERYTHING!!!"

I admit, the meals she has been sent have been a special kind of awful.

I've been craving lasagne for yonks and because DH doesn't like it I haven't made it in well over a year.

Went to PILs last night where I was so hyped up over a home made lasagne, thinking there would be lots of veggies in it like carrots and peppers and courgette and I was so so excited.

All it had was a tin of tomatoes in, I was so disappointed. It did taste night but it would have been so much better.

The Apple crumble he made though was bloody lovely

Ilovecoleslaw · 28/09/2017 14:22

Nice* not night

cafeaulaitpourvous · 28/09/2017 14:27

We had a mooch about and I spied the jam filled donuts - bought some

Got home took a bite and YEUK

Jam was just think red paste and the donut was claggy

I once really fancied cheese on toast. Asked for it in a cafe and got grated cold cheese on top of toast. Not what I meant! I wanted slabs of cheese melted on toast!

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 28/09/2017 14:54

Last Christmas I very excitedly went to M&S to pick up a bag of their prosecco crisps – the ones with gold stars on, cos festive. I love crisps. Love them. But I took one bite of these, insisted everyone else try one to check they were, in fact, disgusting, and chucked the rest of the packet.

M&S, I expect more.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo · 28/09/2017 14:57

The cosmopolitan crisps are just as disgusting.

hudyerwheesht · 28/09/2017 15:07

My worst disappointment was actually something I never got to eat. I'd had a horrendous day, was starving and was planning on consoling myself with a big plate of homemade spag Bol in front of the TV. I didn't drain the pasta well enough and it was so slippery the whole fucking lot slid right off the plate onto the carpet as I flopped on to the chair. I cried with hunger and frustration as I picked pasta out of the carpet, as sauce and spaghetti had gotten lodged into the skirting board.
I carry plates of pasta very carefully these days.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 28/09/2017 15:15

When you go into what looks like a naice cafe and order a sandwich. You expect lots of filling and lovely big slices of fresh bread, but you get horrible cheap sliced bread. There will be a salad with no dressing and not enough crisps on the side. You paid £6 for it and are crying inside.

Many years ago, when it seemed like the latest new thing, my DM and I decided to make a banoffee pie for our Sunday tea. Waited 3 hours for the tin of condensed milk to boil while we got on with the rest of the baking, lovingly assembled the confection, opened up a cupboard to get another plate and a glass bloody bowl jumped out and smashed on top of an entire afternoon's baking, embedding itself prettily into the pie. I think we reverted back to cheesecake the following Sunday.

beachcomber243 · 28/09/2017 15:23

The very worst curry I ever had was bought from M and S. It was awful, tasted horrible and I'm not known as a fussy eater.

I had to throw it out, and I never chuck food away. Never had one since from there.

jay55 · 28/09/2017 15:25

Accidentally purchased maple bacon crisps and not normal bacon crisps, they were like crisps dipped in sweetener, utterly rank.

Have also had a Benedict disappointment ordering the smoked salmon version and them bringing out a pongy spinach one. They did take it straight back. But my stomach flipped at the smell.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 28/09/2017 15:31

Eggs Benedict is something I love but somewhat of a risky thing to order IMO- the eggs might not be runny, I've had sauce that's gone to vinegar, fatty ham....the local wanky cafe thinks it's funny by serving only ONE half of a muffin and avocado on the side. Twats.

Same way I don't order steak when
I eat out. I can't trust them to cook it exactly as I want it- that crucial five second window between rare and medium rare Grin

Sunday Lunch

I make a good Sunday lunch, but every time I go to eat it, I am disappointed that it's not something else. I would stop, but DH loves the tradition (so I now make 2 meals, which I don't mind, as I love a bit of wine in the kitchen, chopping away, listening to the radio on a Sunday....).

iklboo · 28/09/2017 15:51

Had beef stew with dumplings last Friday in our local pub restaurant. You could have taken an eye out with the dumpling it was that rock hard.

Lemond1fficult · 28/09/2017 15:52

Went for a lovely vegetarian tasting menu. We'd had it last year and one of the courses is a delicious truffle risotto.

4 courses in, I realised everything we'd been served was vegan - yes they'd changed it to a vegan menu, and my lovely risotto was no longer even veggie, as they'd started using chicken stock. I actually did get a bit teary at the table, though I was trying not to. Blush

DJBaggySmalls · 28/09/2017 15:54

We live near the best take away in our city and twice a year find an excuse to have a treat. We unwrapped our chips last weekend and they have changed hands. The new people cant do chips Sad
Why would you buy a takeaway if you cant cook chips?

TriJo · 28/09/2017 16:02

Krispy Kreme donuts - they always look good but always taste like sugary stodge that leaves me feeling bloated for ages.

pallisers · 28/09/2017 16:05

I made the JO flatbreads from a recipe raved about on MN thread recently.
They were VILE.

I gave up on mine - couldn't even get the dough to roll out.

McDonalds (and all chips) are horrible if they aren't eaten straight from the fryer. Uber and mcdonalds will always be a disappointment.

2littlemoos · 28/09/2017 16:09

Hadn't had anything junky in a month (it could have been less but certainly felt like a month!) and we treated ourselves to a Mexican take out. It was absolutely disgusting Sad not worth the calories, fat etc. at all! So I feel your pain!

pastapestoparmesan · 28/09/2017 16:17

Some doughnuts from Tesco. They were absolutely vile. Somehow managed to taste raw despite being dry as a dry thing. Also way too much sugar and not enough jam. I stick to m and s or the local bakers now.

pastapestoparmesan · 28/09/2017 16:19

Also I had a packet of crisps that I thought were salt and vinegar (I was constantly craving salt at the time due to the medication I was on) and they were just vinegar flavour. Tasted sweet and disgusting.

cafeaulaitpourvous · 28/09/2017 17:05

I had a pasta disaster too!

Just moved into new house- house has no sink in kitchen. Cooking on a camping hob.
New baby and toddler.
Husband away with army

I am having to drain pasta into colander over grid in garden... the whole lot went in.

I think we bolognaise butties that night ( and I demanded a fully functioning kitchen)
