AIBU Weight Loss

AIBU to think I can lose 3 stone by August next year? I'm 5"2 and on the wrong side of 12 stone Blush.

I used to be completely inactive but I've bought a Fitbit and ensuring I'm doing at least 10,000 steps and burning 2400 calories a day whilst keeping my intake below 2000.

I've lost 4lb in 2 weeks so far.

Am I being delusional or is this actually achievable? I'm staring to hope!

By next year?
Course you can!!
I'm in a very similar position and looking to lose the same amount.
I've done it before in 4 months and I'll do it again 💪

CosyFires · 16/09/2017 21:58

Wow really? That's fab! You've got a brilliant attitude! Whoop go you Grin

Easily!!

Ta1kinPeece · 16/09/2017 22:00

Weight loss is
90% reducing food intake
10% increasing exercise

no matter what approach you take, its about food not moving
BUT
1lb a week, every week, averaged over the year is doable
have a look at the weight loss boards on this site - I'm a fan of 5:2

if you give up snacks
and use myfitnesspal to log what you eat
and keep moving

dropping 52 lb in a year is entirely doable
go for it

Idontevencareanymore · 16/09/2017 22:00

My dh did it in 4 months but he cut out all sugar and snacks, walked about 3 miles a day maybe more.
He's diabetic so sugar was an essential part of his weight loss.

Sayyouwill · 16/09/2017 22:00

Eat clean, plenty of exercise, let yourself have one big treat a week (say wine/chocolate/pizza) otherwise you'll hate your life. Stop snacking, loads of water and being really positive! Can help support each other if you like?

CosyFires · 16/09/2017 22:06

Thanks everyone! I'm 'walking' on average 8km a day. Cut out all snacks, reduced calories but REALLy struggle to eat clean! I hate HATE HATE vegetables and love carbs Sad
My average day is: 2 crumpets with butter, 1/2 bowl of cereal and a chicken stir fry for dinner. Maybe a banana between.

I've lost three stone (well, nearly - two more pounds to go!) since end of March. I was just over 14st to start with and I'm 5ft 6. Slimming World.

Ta1kinPeece · 16/09/2017 22:08

cosy
what do you drink ..... up the fluids a LOT
and TBH you cannot be overweight on that intake ....
use MFP to track every morsel that passes your lips
and veg is good when done well

OurMiracle1106 · 16/09/2017 22:08

I was 12st 2 end of November last year. I'm 5ft2 and have managed to lose a little over 2.5 stone since Nov 25th last year. So yeah it's do able. I also suffer with pcos so it's harder for me to lose weight

Good luck on your journey. Flowers

Sayyouwill · 16/09/2017 22:09

@CosyFires in which case, join slimming world. You can eat all the pasta you like. You have a carb allowance for bread etc and it's more than you think.
It's all pasta, meat and veg.

I also hate veg but love it in stirfries (spicy) or in a soup

CosyFires · 16/09/2017 22:13

It's so good to hear your stories!

Should also add that the food outlines above is what we eat not not used to. We've gone from having 3 take outs minimum (1200 calorie meal each) a week to none.

Yep, easily. I lost 3.75 stone in 6 months. I had a one to one weight management advisor (a friend, she was fab). And I would reiterate what a pp said re excercise Vs food intake. You need to get the food right, then see excercise as a bonus.

I followed a low fat, lower carb style diet. Swapping white, processed carbs for "better" ones (whole-wheat bread/pitta/wraps, brown rice, sweet potato, porridge etc), upping green vegetables intake and generally trying to eat less. I think I usually ate around 1700 a day.

I now have a much less restricted diet, but do shed loads of excercise! But I think I needed the initial push to get the weight off, which involves a serious food cull.

Also, are you sure 10000 steps equals 2400 calories? That seems quite a lot. I usually burn around 2100 on a 10000 step day. To get to 2400 calories I usually need to add at least a 5 k run, or gym class.

Good luck!

Some years ago, I went on a "50 lbs in 50 weeks" campaign. I aimed for a calorie deficit of 500 per day, half by reducing intake and half by increasing exercise.

It worked, though it actually took 51 weeks to lose 50 lbs.

CosyFires · 16/09/2017 23:00

I'm just going by what my Fitbit calculates, not sure how accurate it is! Confused Tbf I do more than 10,000 steps a day on average.

cosy
you used the magic word
WE
if you and your other half are both on board you will both succeed

no junk in the house
kitchen closed between meals
big plates and glasses put away
meals out are savoured

you will both get to lean and mean in a year and never look back

MaMisled · 16/09/2017 23:28

With a very similar plan to yours, fitbit, burn 2000 kcal, eat 1500, 5ft 2in....since May I've gone from 12st 5lb to 9st 11lb without really struggling too much.

August next year? Get started and you could be there a lot sooner!

Good luck!

CosyFires · 17/09/2017 07:24

Ah thank you all so much! So motivated right now! We can do this 💪🏼

CosyFires · 17/09/2017 13:01

CosyFires · 18/09/2017 09:46

Another lb lost!! That's 3 from last Monday! I'm actually doing this 🙈

OP posts:
Birdsgottafly · 18/09/2017 09:52

I lost five stone in seven months.

I used MFP, I didn't eat my exercise calories, more than twice a week.

Even if you don't drop all the weight that you want, exercise makes you look better. I walked and did weights.

Birdsgottafly · 18/09/2017 09:54

You will lose a lot at first, but slow your weight loss to 1/2 a week.

CosyFires · 18/09/2017 10:03

@Birdsgottafly Well done that's amazing!
I expect it to slow down I'm just happy with losing anything as previous attempts ended in me gaining weight rather than losing 😂

OP posts:
cherrystorm · 18/09/2017 10:10

Well done cosy on your weight loss. I have two stone to lose, like you I am 5'2.

I am starting my diet today, I have just weighed in at 10'10. We can keep each other companySmile

I am off to town in a bit to get myself a Fitbit.
