I know I don't have to read them but why do people find them so interesting?

What threads bore you?

OP posts:
MattAffleck · 11/09/2017 00:26

Parking is dull. Maybe I've lived in a crowded city for too long. I just can't get excited about them.

ticketytock1 · 11/09/2017 00:26

Yanbu
I find them boring as fuck

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 11/09/2017 00:32

Same. I don't even bother opening them, can't work out why posters get so enthusiastic. And the love of diagrams Confused.

Any thread with klaxon! in the title. Not that I even read them. Just seeing the word bores me though.

Jgmahe · 11/09/2017 00:33

Same don't understand the hype about them.

BackieJerkhart · 11/09/2017 00:33

The baby name threads that ask for names that go with sibling names or ask "if I like X what else will I like?" Fucked if I know love! There are billions of names out there and they are such a personal thing. Most names I see suggested on these threads are hideous.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 11/09/2017 00:46

I think Op we were both on the irritable harridan thread Wink and I'll admit this probably confirms my grumpy cow status:

ALL threads that ask AIBU to think e.g. AIBU to think driving after 10 beers is wrong, AIBU to think she shouldn't have smacked me in the face with a wet kipper when I kindly held the lift for her... Why pretend it's in question? I can't even open them, it's just going to be the boring, predictable bore fest of righteous indignation that it says on the tin in the title.

CoughLaughFart · 11/09/2017 00:52

Any threads along the lines of 'AIBU to not get Game of Thrones?' or similar. Why do you need to 'get' it, or anything else? If you don't like it don't watch/eat/do it!

GiveTwoSheets · 11/09/2017 00:53

parks arse on grumpy cow bench

toffee1000 · 11/09/2017 00:56

Also threads like "what will your 8 yo DD get for Xmas" or similar. I guess they're looking for inspiration but surely you know what your own child likes? Child A might like ballet and Child B might like football.
Plus we seem to always have a "What Words Do You Hate" or "What Bit of Popular Culture Do You Hate But Everyone Else Loves" (and so on) thread going on. Everyone posts the same damn answers every time. People hate moist/gusset/clunge/Mrs Browns Boys/Ed Sheeran/Michael McIntyre. We. Get. It.

Och, I don't read the threads the bore me. It's easy not to click on them. Maybe i read mumsnet so rarely (I'm a dipper for a 2-4 days every 4-6 weeks) , but I love the parking threads. So much humour.... Don't diss the diagrams!

MattAffleck · 11/09/2017 01:13

Oh can I add. There have been two of these recently.

Any thread that gives people the opportunity to wang on about how much money their DH earns, or how much disposable income is required to send 9 children to boarding school with all the specialist sporting equipment required. Bore off. I know I'm poor. I don't need the internet to remind me.

Lallypopstick · 11/09/2017 02:28

"Posting for traffic" really annoys me for some reason. Maybe I'm a stickler for rules and organisation, and like everything in its proper place.

faithinthesound · 11/09/2017 02:42

puts on harder hat

YABU for posting this in AIBU when you know damn well you're BU because you have the ability to scroll on by.

Threads like this just read to me like "AIBU to feel like the Grinch while everyone else has fun doing something I don't like doing". Spoiler: Yes, you are.

NachoFries · 11/09/2017 02:49

🚗

numbmum83 · 11/09/2017 04:28

Backiejerk I saw a baby thread the other day and the name Germentrude was suggested to the op... I mean Christ on a bike , who the fuck would call their child that!!!

I sometimes think I'm living on another planet reading some names on here... a child in this area would have the p ripped out of them .
I'm sure some people think they are naming a cat not a baby who's gotta go through 15 years of education with other kids who have "normal" names !

SilverySurfer · 11/09/2017 05:42

I don't understand the threads where the OP says something like 'my eyeball is hanging out of its socket, WIBU to go to A&E or shall I see my GP, I can get an appointment for next Thursday?' (maybe a slight exaggeration)

Totally agree about baby names, some suggested names are hideously ugly.

JustGettingStarted · 11/09/2017 06:05

The ongoing, multiple-iteration, threads with "clever" titles full of in-jokes, like "ballsy ladies onside kick their nose trimmers whilst folding laundry and refusing to take a red card." Obviously I don't read the threads. Just skimming past the titles in Active irritates me. Sometimes I hide the threads, which buys me a few weeks until they reach 1000 pages and come up with a new one.

GastonsWife · 11/09/2017 06:19

MIL threads.
"My parents see DC 3 times a week. We visit them every weekend and go on holiday with them. MIL had summoned as round for tea next week. I find this overbearing and controlling"

BinkyandBunty · 11/09/2017 06:36

Well it's not the parking problem itself that's interesting (is it?), it's the delicious prospect of confrontation and the resulting neighbour wars.

Who doesn't love a juicy tale of revenge and retribution?

faithinthesound · 12/09/2017 08:08

Although, if I'm honest... ~climbs down from high horse~ I really hate the "could I be pregnant" threads.

Do you have a functional uterus and have you had PIV intercourse without protection recently? Then maybe! But instead of asking internet strangers to divine it sight unseen, get thee hence to a pharmacy and buy a bloody stick to pee on, you useless wally!

RoseAndRose · 12/09/2017 08:17

I used to wish for a 'sticks and scans' topic for all 'am I pregnant' and 'what sex is this grey blur' posts. So it would be easy to hide all of them in a oner

But it's a bit pointless, as MNHQ have reduced the amount they'll move threads - not even premature Christmas ones (which they always used to do in years past until around the end of November, but new mods refuse)

ShiftyLookingBadger · 12/09/2017 08:18

YABU. Love me a good parking thread Grin

Nancy91 · 12/09/2017 08:27

The threads which have like 55 parts and really long cringey titles attempting to be witty. They don't make sense as there are too many in-jokes and it's been going for way too long. Let the conversation die.

Stealth boasting threads "Is my child eating too many vegetables?"

BreconBeBuggered · 12/09/2017 08:34

I don't mind parking threads. I do, however, object to the constant nagging for diagrams. I like the pictures I conjure up in my head, and diagrams only serve to confuse me. Can't hide a diagram once it's there.
