To be depressed by this weather

Yippeedoodaa · 05/09/2017 14:46

So it's the 5th September, we've had maybe 20 days of proper sunshine since April (live in the northwest) and then maybe another 20-30 dry days which are overcast and a bit meh and the rest of the time it's rained or been cold enough to consider putting the heating on during SUMMER.

I absolutely can't stand this weather anymore. We lived in London for ten years and yes it was better but to be honest both my maternity leaves were very rainy there too!

Does it get anyone else down? I am sure my childhood (in the northwest) was sunnier..I am seriously considering uprooting elsewhere but don't know where to go!! It's pissing it down again now and got to do the school run.

Should add I KNOW a lot of people have a lot more to worry about that this relatively minor problem!

Wasn't there a whole heatwave everyone was whining about? Like weeks of hot weather?

Yippeedoodaa · 05/09/2017 14:48

Ha not here! Think we had about four days and I enjoyed every moment.

Yes! Same here Yippee I am absolutely sick to the back teeth of it.
Its almost everyday lately isn't it round here.
Knowing that we have to put up with it doesn't help!

Birdsgottafly · 05/09/2017 14:50

I'm in Liverpool, so, Northwest also and we've had more than that.

You either make firm plans to live in another country, or you buy suitable clothing and carry on as usual.

As the Norwegians say "there is no bad weather, only bad clothing".

Minniemarshmallows · 05/09/2017 14:53

HahaGrin
Should be a new saying for the Northwest too....There are no Summer clothes just Water proofs!

Yippeedoodaa · 05/09/2017 14:55

Totally get that about clothes (I've got them all!) and totally agree no need for summer clothes in North west, maybe two dresses 'just in case' and shorts for your holiday and that's about it!

I know what you mean. I thoroughly enjoyed the hot dry days we had a bit earlier in the year. I'd be happy to have that weather all the time.

Birdsgottafly · 05/09/2017 14:56

It's a good excuse to not do your hair.

FatBottomedGal · 05/09/2017 14:59

I live in the South East and am also completely fed up with this weather. When I was a kid, school holidays were full of endless hot days (I distinctly remember the grass in our garden/ the local park was completely dead until end of September). I read somewhere that we were going to have an indian summer but that clearly isn't going to happen.

I know there's not much we can do about it, but are we really British (or Britain dwellers) if we don't complain about the weather?!

I feel your pain, l used to live in Cornwall...... days of endless drizzle throughout...now live in SE and it is so much drier and even warmer.

Minniemarshmallows · 05/09/2017 15:12

It would be nice if it was true!
Then it would make up for the lost summer!

rainbowbreeze123 · 05/09/2017 15:16

Im from the North west and it was gorgeous on Sat, hot and sunny ! YABU You were probably posting on here that you were too hot and couldnt stand it Grin

FallingOrbit · 05/09/2017 15:23

SW Wales here and we've had a very different experience (although I'm sure someone will be along shortly to say I'm lying about it)

Today, no sorry yesterday was the first rain worth mentioning for a long time here. It's been very hot and very humid. Personally I don't like summer, much prefer autumn and winter but summers here are definitely different to what you're describing up there. Wanna swap?!

Milliemoo37 · 05/09/2017 15:28

I love the rain. Especially driving in it or going for a walk.

However I'm not a fan of it when it comes to hanging out clothes to dry.

Beerwench · 05/09/2017 15:36

North East Coast and we've maybe had it slightly better than NW on balance, but yup, I'm fed up of the rain and having no proper summer 'like what when I was a bairn' Grin
More so as the weather seems to have it in for me, personally - I can usually for tell the days it will piss down, be stupidly windy, or both because they're always my fucking days off! Wink

StarlitTrees · 05/09/2017 15:56

I don't think the issue is that you've moved to London. Your childhood summers were nicer up north because of the effect global warming has had over the few decades.
It's only going to get worse sadly.

EnormousDormouse · 05/09/2017 15:59

I have decamped to work in Hot Forrin. I was back in the UK for the 'summer', and reminded myself why I left when I was shivering in a tent with the temp reading 8°

RaininSummer · 05/09/2017 16:11

I agree it is ridiculous and horrible but for years now I haven't felt we have had a Summer. A few nice days amongst the gloom and usually when at work. I haven't even bought new summer clothes in about three years as they don't get worn. I think out climate now is wet n warmish in summer and wet and slightly colder in Winter.

GinGeum · 05/09/2017 16:44

It's a pain in the arse (especially for us farmers)

I don't mind rain, cold etc, but I don't want 11 and a half months of rain, and 2 weeks of summer weather which is what it feels like we've had this year.

June was lovely, but it seems such a long time ago, and it's going to make winter feel ever longer since August has felt so Autumn-y.

I try so hard not to complain about the weather, but when you're trying to harvest and it sodding rains every day, you reach a point of disappointment that no amount of positive thinking can change!

SaucyJack · 05/09/2017 16:48

I don't mind the rain, but summat about this air pressure gives me massive headaches.

Drives me potty.

Sallystyle · 05/09/2017 16:50

YANBU it has been shit.

If the temp has been pleasant there has been no pissing sun to go with it. Well, apart from the two week 'heat wave' and the very odd day.

AlphaStation · 05/09/2017 16:50

Today I wore mittens for the first time this fall, and a goose down jacket... +8 C where I am now.

obviouslymarvellous · 05/09/2017 16:56

Yanbu - it's been a load of shite yet again!!!!
Totally fed up with it completely we have about one weeks of decent weather and that's it, it throws it down every day! I seriously am considering moving it does nothing for my mood at all constant rain Confused
