Blood Taylor Swift and zombies

My DD(6) loves Taylor Swift. Sigh. Not my cuppa tea at all, but hey ho. I've just seen some still from her new video on the Daily Fail and there is some zombie Taylor Swift coming out of a bloody grave in the video. So she can't see that video.

Huh?

Video isn't suitable for little kiddies - ie most of her fan base.

She has. I don't like the message in the song either - Look what you made me do - sounds like an abusive husband after hitting a wife.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/08/2017 08:28

I think there are far worse people she could be keen on tbh

Dlpdep · 28/08/2017 08:29

Oh I agree. I only put up with it because I thought she was 'wholesome' enough for that age group.

If you don't like her don't listen to her. Or alliw your DD to. At 6 you have complete control over what she watches.

I quite like TS. I think there are far worse role models for girls.

I've just watched that video and knew someone would have an issue with it. Quite frankly not even the lyrics are very suitable for a 6 year old, and it's no surprise the video represents that. However, there is a 'lyric only' version available, so negates any 'scary' issues.

I thought the video was very clever and to the point. Many people talk about 'the New Madonna' when talking about young artists, but I think TW may actually be one of these rare artist to go the distance with 'reinventing' herself.

WeAreEternal · 28/08/2017 08:35

Ive just googled the video, the 'zombie' is only in the first 35 seconds of the video so there is another 3 minutes and 69 seconds of the video you can be happy with.

If you don't like it don't let her watch or listen to it... she's 6 not 16 you can control what she is exposed to.

Dlpdep · 28/08/2017 08:42

I absolutely fully accept that I can and will control what my child sees and listens to. That isn't my issue, more that TS was 'safe'. My DD was very excited to hear that's TS had new music coming out. Very excited that there would be a new video. Now it isn't suitable and I'm disappointed in that.

TS's fanbase isn't 'little kiddies' though. At her concerts, I'd say the average age range is late teens / twenties - most of her fans have been around for years.

Dlpdep · 28/08/2017 08:58

There are many good reasons why you are more likely to see older teens and early twenties people at pop concerts rather than 6 year olds.

What has my life come to that I am debating the suitability of Taylor Swift on Mumsnet? I'm off to find a good Foo Fightera thread and cleanse myself! Grin

I never had TS as children's entertainer...

AmyGardner · 28/08/2017 09:00

I've got a 5 and a 6 year old and they somehow have started playing 'zombies; chasing each other around moaning and groaning. Apparently it's hilarious Grin

I'd think a 6 year old could take a blatantly not-real music video? How did we all cope with Thriller? We weren't all traumatised after watching that as far as I can remember.

Nousernameforme · 28/08/2017 09:00

as said upthread if you have no problems with the lyrics which I also think are reminiscent of DA then there is a lyric vid she can watch

Lelloteddy · 28/08/2017 09:04

Most of her fan base doesn't consist of little kiddies though. ( mum of veteran TS fans here Wink )

She's an incredibly astute artist and business woman. DD reliably informs me that the lyrics of this new track cleverly reflect a lot of the media stuff that's been reported about her recently. I just get to shell out for the next lot of concert tickets Grin

Mollie85 · 28/08/2017 09:33

I don't think think TS is or has ever actively been marketed at the under 10s and like a pp said, you control what your child sees (for the most part) at that age.

The video also has the word "bitch" at the end when the past Taylors are arguing with each other, so graveyard scene aside, it's not appropriate.

I love it. 36 and been a fan from the first (country) album.

MargotLovedTom1 · 28/08/2017 09:37

Amy I was completely traumatised after watching the Thriller video, and I was about 9 at the time! Maybe I was just a big girl's blouse BlushGrin.

Isadora2007 · 28/08/2017 09:41

It's fab and the zombie isn't even scary. The crash scene I don't think a six year old will even register what is being implied there. And the word bitch at the end is probably the only thing I'd veto.
Other than that it's fine for a six year old fan!

Sunnysidegold · 28/08/2017 09:48

I would say you'd be hard pushed to find a music video for a popular song that is suitable for a six year old. As someone else pointed out, there is so much near naked and full on gyrating in other videos.

I am quite a recent convert to TS and at 37 in hardly in her target demographic, but i don't think a six year old is either.

megletthesecond · 28/08/2017 09:51

margot the thriller video still scares me, I'm 43 Blush.

I do like TS but my dc's very rarely see music videos so I'm not worried.

Lelloteddy · 28/08/2017 09:52

Sunnysidegold have you seen her live? She is INCREDIBLE! I took DDa few years ago, muttered and whinged about it beforehand and was totally blown away. She's in my top three live performers and I can't wait now to see if she'll tour the new album.

schuylersister · 28/08/2017 09:54

"Sounds like a domestic abuser"

Really? Do you really think this is an OK thing to say about a young woman who just went through a very public, very humiliating sexual assault trial? Because she made a tongue-in-cheek pop song about herself and her reputation?

bluegrape · 28/08/2017 09:58

I had a look at that video this morning because I was interested in the 'I'm too sexy' Right Said Fred link.

I thought it was cruel of her to mock Tom Hiddleston with the tshirts.
