To think the neighbour's are over-reacting? (Rolf Harris')

The Daily Mail has spotted a pattern: 3 of disgraced paedophile Rolf Harris' neighbours are selling up. This "mass exodus" is claimed to be because he has now served his prison sentence.

AIBI to think that if the DM's assessment of this trend is correct, then this is a total over-reaction? Yes he's free to live his life, but the properties in the area are hardly cheek-by-jowl, the affluence of the area suggests security would be a priority and he's 87, fhs. How much life does he have left in him?

I would suggest the risk to the children in the neighbourhood is negligible. AIBU?

There is no actual reporting in that article, only "a source", which is DM speak for "we invented it".

So YABU for believing the hateful DM.

WorraLiberty · 27/08/2017 22:33

Oh for goodness sake, who takes any notice of a newspaper quoting an anonymous source?

You'd be far better of finding yourself different reading material.

JeReviens · 27/08/2017 22:38

Seriously? You believe this shit?

Shock
BannedFromNarnia · 27/08/2017 22:40

Urgh, the Daily Heil is vile. Read something sensible, YABU.

Glumglowworm · 27/08/2017 22:41

YABU for reading the daily fail.

QueenMortificado · 27/08/2017 22:41

Get off the daily mail.

Problem solved.

hamsterloverlover · 27/08/2017 22:43

ooh are there houses going cheap, it's nice where he lives. i'd move there.

ReanimatedSGB · 27/08/2017 22:52

Yeah, it might be a good chance to pick up a cheap property.

highinthesky · 27/08/2017 22:52

It caught my eye on the Apple news feed. I'm no fan of the DM, but it did make me think.

I'd hate to be living close to a paedophile but if the neighbours are selling up for this reason it seems needless. They are well protected by virtue of their wealth, and his age.

MammaTJ · 27/08/2017 22:54

I am pretty sure his neighbours children would not actually even meet him, let alone be left in his care.

Hysteria at it's best!!

Now my DC, they visit their GM, with me. Her ex boss, who still lives next door, who they have met, so would see as a safe adult, has been convicted and put in prison again for being a paedophile, that is a danger, or could be if I was not so frank with my DC. His flat, when he leaves prison, overlooks a park!!

nancy75 · 27/08/2017 22:54

They probably aren't too happy with a load of paps hanging around outside

JeReviens · 27/08/2017 22:54

You probably DO live close to a paedophile but you will likely never know it.
And it sounds as though you actually believe this stupid story?

Helendee · 27/08/2017 22:55

Is it not just a little arrogant to tell people what they can and cannot read?

susurration · 27/08/2017 22:56

Please stop making the mistake that just because a paedophile is in his late 80's, this does not make him dangerous. Nor does wealth protect you from being a victim of sexual (or any other kind of) abuse.

QuitMoaning · 27/08/2017 22:57

Really really not true.
Close family live nearby and used to live a few doors away from Rolf.

QuitMoaning · 27/08/2017 23:00

They used to live a few doors away, I didn't. Just to clarify.

glitterlips1 · 27/08/2017 23:04

As soon as I see "source" I stop reading because I know it is just made up crap!

Flashinggreen · 27/08/2017 23:05

I read the DM online, a lot of it I have no clue who the people are, reality to stars I assume. And most of it I don't believe. To me it's like reading a gossip magazine.

I saw that and my immediate reaction was someone has decided to sell their house at the same time he's got out.

StickThatInYourPipe · 27/08/2017 23:06

Am I the only one who enjoys the daily mail? I sort of see it as satire and it can give me a good laugh

highinthesky · 27/08/2017 23:08

He's a known and convicted paedophile. The chances of a privileged child with security conscious parents coming into contact with him is neglected.

Like many others, Harris counted on his reputation to protect him. He lacks anonymity and at 87, I suspect the physical capability to act on any urges he may have.

abilockhart · 27/08/2017 23:09

The DM quoting 'a source'? It's the height of the silly season.

Yet, some still fall for it Shock Shock

highinthesky · 27/08/2017 23:10

So why sell up? Why not wait for him to move on or to simply expire?

OP posts:
IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 27/08/2017 23:14

1.His neighbours are allowed to do whatever they like with their lives.
2.The DM prints utter shite, so don't believe a word of it.

  1. Why do you care so much about peadophiles/children/neighbours?
becotide · 27/08/2017 23:17

LoL if he moves back to a known address, he will be dead within 6 hours. That house will be MOBBED.

THAT is probaly what they neighbours are trying to avoid

KurriKurri · 27/08/2017 23:20

There's no evidence to suggest they are selling their houses because of RH, - it DM gibberish as per usual.

I mean the last line of the article is that RH 'was recently seen on a shopping excursion to Screwfix' - you read that and still thought he article was anything other than total bollocks?
