To think the neighbour's are over-reacting? (Rolf Harris')

The Daily Mail has spotted a pattern: 3 of disgraced paedophile Rolf Harris' neighbours are selling up. This "mass exodus" is claimed to be because he has now served his prison sentence.

AIBI to think that if the DM's assessment of this trend is correct, then this is a total over-reaction? Yes he's free to live his life, but the properties in the area are hardly cheek-by-jowl, the affluence of the area suggests security would be a priority and he's 87, fhs. How much life does he have left in him?

I would suggest the risk to the children in the neighbourhood is negligible. AIBU?

So why sell up? Why not wait for him to move on or to simply expire? - umm, let's think, maybe they are down-sizing... or buying a bigger house ... or relocating abroad .... or the owners have died and family are selling ...or any of the many other reasons why people usually sell houses?! Unless these houses are being advertised for sale with a specific line in the description detailing WHY they are being sold then I believe the DM "article" is a pile of made-up garbage!

LaurieFairyCake · 27/08/2017 23:29

He did move back to his address. And the paparazzi are constantly hanging around to snap him.

There's increased traffic too.

Still bet it's a load of guff and they were selling anyway.

sunglassally · 27/08/2017 23:30

Now is the time to buy next to a convicted paedophile surely.

SilverySurfer · 27/08/2017 23:44

Maybe them selling up has nothing to do with RH. Maybe they were moving anyway. Maybe it's no-one else's business why they are selling up.

sunglassally · 27/08/2017 23:56

Silvery,

it has always been MN business to monitor these things. Always!

jakscrakers · 28/08/2017 00:05

I know if it was me I wouldnt want to live anywhere near that type of person, as far as i personally am concerned people like him should be dumped on an island of there own, I say this as i would rather them be left alone in a room with me and a rusty pair of shears but I know most people would think that was a tad drastic ....

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/08/2017 00:08

He lacks anonymity and at 87, I suspect the physical capability to act on any urges he may have

I don't believe anything in the DM buy don't be fooled into thinking that.

YouCantArgueWithStupid · 28/08/2017 00:22

As a PP said up thread it's highly likely there's SO's and CSO's in your area. They're just not known to you as they're not famous.

VeryCunningStunt · 28/08/2017 01:09

YABU for reading the daily fail

And even more so for linking to it.

LakieLady · 28/08/2017 04:41

As a PP said up thread it's highly likely there's SO's and CSO's in your area.

Very true. The best way to avoid living near a CSO is to buy a house near a school. And that will only work for those who are out on licence or subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order or other restrictions.

Silly me, I don't know what I was thinking - you're so right [grin

AcrossthePond55 · 28/08/2017 04:55

IF it were to be true that his neighbours are selling up at a high rate, I'd say it has more to do with their fear of decreased property values because they'd have to declare a RSO lives nearby rather than fear of the paedophile himself.

susurration · 28/08/2017 08:40

Well OP you are stupid to dismiss the danger of a convicted paedophile just because you think 'he is past it'. Utterly stupid. Men can father children well into old age, and whether he can get it up or not (please excuse my crassness. I'm making myself shudder even typing this) does not mean he is not a danger in other ways.

I strongly suspect this story is rubbish anyway, doesn't mean he is not a danger.

smellylittleorange · 28/08/2017 08:49

why would you care of the neighbours are overreacting or not? Sorry don't get it?

smellylittleorange · 28/08/2017 08:50

if

histinyhandsarefrozen · 28/08/2017 08:54

They should never move. Never.

missmollyhadadolly · 28/08/2017 08:54

The chances of a privileged child with security conscious parents coming into contact with him is neglected

Why do you assume privileged children have more security conscious parents?

Child abuse happens across society, rich and poor.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 28/08/2017 08:59

People in a desirable area selling houses is not newsworthy.
Oh but as its in that rag it doesn't count as news anyway.

MorrisZapp · 28/08/2017 08:59

What is he convicted of doing? And when did he do it?

jakscrakers · 28/08/2017 19:16

Are you being serious 'MorrisZapp' or just rather highly facetious ...

Ttbb · 28/08/2017 19:26

Maybe they have grandchildren or something? I wouldn't want to live next to a pedophile.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 28/08/2017 20:30

Don't think Morris is in the UK Jaks.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/08/2017 20:33

Maybe they don't want the press outside their doors?
